Anna's POV
I stared at the man who was taking my breath away while just standing there. “Is he joking? What does he mean, how can he be a drug lord?” My mind raced as I tried to figure out what exactly he meant by his last statement.
I took a couple of steps back, I did not know why exactly I was this afraid. But when he said that, the entire aura in the room automatically changed from soothing and accommodating to stuffy and menacing. It felt like I was in the presence of a wild animal who was about to lunge at me.
“Are you joking?” I asked with a sputter.
“I don’t joking.” Damien answered.
“If you are not joking, Why me?” I asked still disoriented,
“Would you stop asking the exact same questions?” Damien snapped. “Look at me.” He said as he took two large strides to get in front of me and used his hands to lift my chin.
“I’ve told you multiple times the reason why we are here. Because I need you.” Damien said.
The moment he touched my chin, a thrill went down my spine. “What are you doing?” I sputtered as I tried to step back out of his reach.
“What are you doing?” I asked again, my body was acting way different than it had ever acted before. I was both intimidated and intrigued by him.
“Nothing.” Damien replied with a smile on his face. “Tomorrow, I will be taking you on a trial run as my wife. Wear something nice.” He said before walking past me.
“Wait, we still haven’t talked about how much I was going to get paid.” I called out as I ran after him.
“How much do you want to get paid?” He asked as he turned back to me. “And don’t worry about money. As my wife, there’s nothing you want right now that you can’t have.”
It took a couple of seconds for me to understand what he was saying, but by the time I was ready to reply to him, he had already left the room.
“Wait.” I called out. I still had no idea what he was talking about and I needed more clarification.
By the time I caught up to Damien, I was already slightly panting from exhaustion, “He has very long strides.” I thought as I saw the large man walking away from me.
“For God’s sake man, just wait.” I shouted again,
This time he actually listened and stopped, he turned around to face me and the moment I saw the smug expression on his face. I resisted the urge to punch the smile out of his handsome face.
“Who the f**k does he think he is?” I thought as I stood in front of him.
“Why can’t you just wait,” I took a deep breath and asked. I was standing in front of him now and because of how tall he was, I had to lift my head up in order to even see his face.
“What else do you need, Ms. Anna?” Damien asked,
“I just met you and I am still trying to wrap my head over everything you just said,” I answered,
“That still does not answer my question Anna.” Damien said with a shake of his head, “What do you need?” He asked again.
“Answers.” I replied with a shrug, “I need answers, first of all, what do you mean by money is not an issue, does that mean that if I ask you for a million, you would give it to me?” I asked,
“Do you want a million?” Damien replied to my question with a question of his own.
Because of how close we were, I could actually look into Damien’s dark brown eyes and by the expression on his face, I could actually tell that he was not joking. Damien was actually willing to give me a million dollars if I asked for it.
“This is real. This is actually real.” I thought as the realization slammed into me at once, I had been treating all of this as a joke since the moment I met Damien, but I can see now that this is not a joke to him. He actually means what he says.
“Good.” Damien answered with a nod when he saw the look of understanding in my eyes, “Come with me.” He ordered as he turned back and started walking towards the large hall.
I followed after him as closely as I could, because of how large his strides were, I had to eventually break into a slight jog just to keep up with him. It was only through immense self control that I resisted the urge to scream at him to slow down.
When we finally got to the hall and he slowed down, I breathed a sigh of relief and allowed myself to slow down, “You have already met Emily right?” Damien asked, pointing towards the receptionist who had welcomed me when I first got into the building.
“Yes,” I nodded as I turned around to see the receptionist waving at me.
“Tell Emily whatever you need and she will get it for you. You can ask her any questions you have, she would be both your agent and your manager throughout your run as my wife. Do you understand?” Damien asked,
“Yes I do.” I muttered under my breath. The truth was that I did not understand, but since he said Emily was going to be my manager then I figured I would ask her any questions I have later. Damien was just too intimidating, I still felt like a caged animal whenever I was in his presence.
“Good,” Damien answered with a nod, “I will see you tomorrow Ms. Anna.” He said as he flashed me a smile and walked away.
I spent the next few moments staring at him as Damien pushed open the large door of the building and two large men in black suits that I had not noticed before walked up to him. They both flanked him and ushered him towards a large black jeep.
“The boss is intimidating right?” Someone said from behind my back.
I quickly turned around in shock only to see a smiling Emily staring at me. I had been so shocked by the abrupt departure of Damien that I did not notice when Emily walked up to me. It was only now that Emily was in front of me that I actually noticed how tall she was. She must have been up to 6 feet tall. I was a respectable 5 ft 6 inches tall, which was not short for a woman, but compared to Emily, I looked really short.
“Yes very.” I answered as I flashed her a smile. I was nervous and I knew that she could clearly tell how nervous I was, but I still needed to show a strong front.
“Sorry about my behavior earlier?” Emily replied as she offered up her hand, “My name is Emily Blunt and I will be your manager and lead bodyguard.”
“Anna Hart.” I replied as I clasped her outstretched hand. “Wait, what do you mean by lead bodyguard?” I asked as I immediately noticed something odd with the way she introduced herself.
“You are the wife of Damien Count, Ms. Hart. Did you think you were going to go around without protection?” Emily asked with a smile on her face.
“Uh, of course I don’t know what to expect.” I answered with a shrug, “I still do not fully understand what I am doing here.”
“Well I’ve got something for you that would clear your mind about all of that.” Emily answered, she still had her smile on her face and it was beginning to make me feel uneasy.
“What do you mean,” I asked,
“We ar
e going shopping of course.” Emily replied.
