"The last one to get up gets punished" she remarked Diana sprang up quickly and Jonah stood last both breathing heavily "Impressive, i love tough mobsters and i hope you both get chosen. I'm Isabella, your instructor for today" she added as she walked to the megaphone so everyone can hear her. "Welcome, recruits!" Isabella boomed. " You are about to embark on a journey that will test your limits, push you to your boundaries and of course, i do not expect you all to pass this test as we only need fifty mobsters". The new recruits were put to test. "You are required to perform a hundred push-ups, you have ten minutes" "As the recruits struggled to complete the 100 push-ups, some began to falter, their arms shaking uncontrollably, their breathing heavy and labored. But Diana, determined to push through, gritted her teeth and strained to lift herself up. She managed to breeze through the first 15 push-ups with relative ease, but as she hit 69, her movements slowed and she began to tremble. Yet, she refused to give up, drawing on every last bit of strength to power through to 75. As she approached the finish line, her body began to protest, she could feel her arms tearing up and her wrists loosing strength but she couldn't give up, right? Besides, this was just the beginning.. At 99, she struggled to muster the energy for her final push-up. With great effort, she finally completed the 100th push-up, her body sagging in relief as she let out a ragged breath. "After the push-up test, the recruits were surveyed, her eyes narrowing as she tallied up the numbers. 51 who hadn't completed the 100 push-ups were dismissed, their training days over. The remaining recruits stood tall, some looking relieved, others exhausted but determined. 'Alright, recruits,' Isabella barked. 'The next challenge is a five - kilometer run. You'll need to complete it within 20 minutes. Let's see who's still still standing when the time goes off" As the recruits lined up for the five kilometre run, Isabella shouted, "Go!" The recruits surged forward, their footsteps pounding the ground in unison. Diana, still reeling from the push-up challenge, she felt really exhausted but she knew couldn't blow this as it determines the success or failure of her mission. With a stronger determination , she found a burst of energy to propel herself forward. As they ran, some recruits struggled to keep pace, their breathing growing more labored with each step. Others seemed to glide effortlessly across the terrain, their strides long and confident. The sound of heavy breathing, pounding footsteps, and occasional grunts filled the air. As the timer ticked down, the recruits began to spread out. Some were sprinting ahead, while others were lagging behind, their legs burning and lungs heaving. Diana was somewhere in the middle, her feet pounding the ground in a steady rhythm. At the 4 - kilometer mark, the recruits were starting to tire. Some were stumbling, their legs wobbly and weak. Others were pushing themselves to the limit, their faces set in determination. Diana was almost as good as dead, her lungs were out of breath and she could collapse anytime soon. At 19:45 , 49 had completed their task. "At least, i'll be the 50th" she thought to herself. Her thoughts were cut off when she saw another almost at the finished line. She hastened her steps. Luckily for her, just as the fella was about to get to the finish line, he collapsed and fainted. So, she had the privilege to finish the race and she got chosen. As the tasks came to an end, indeed only 50 mobsters were chosen out of 152 newbies. "Okay, that's it. Those who were chosen will be assigned to their various rooms" Isabella announced. "Oh...and of course , you'll not be paired with a newbie like you" Isabella added. Murmurs rose as everyone got excited to know who they'll be paired with except Diana. She isn't even here, her mind is far gone trying to picture how her life in here will be. Of course, this is the most dangerous mission she has ever embarked on. She could only hope her cover will not blow. They were each given a card with their room labels. She caught a glimpse of someone familiar and just as she was about to take a look, someone interrupted her. " Hey Dilan , I'm glad you got in. How does it feel to be a mobster here? Intriguing right?" Marcus asked "Oh fuck..... I mean yeah , it's nice" she squinted still trying to locate the person again but she had been distracted. She can't afford to overlook any thing, be it a person or a weirdo. She thought and looked at Marcus while rolling her eyes in frustration. " Woo woo woo easy little dude, did i do something wrong? He questioned. "Did i say you did? Can you just leave me alone?" She whispered harshly. "Fine, i'm leaving" Marcus muttered. "Thanks" she said and looked back at the directions which she saw the person. "I'm sure it's someone I know." She said and " could it be?" Her eyes widened. TBC....
