Chapter 12

“Angel, there are several heat signatures around the perimeter. I count eight in the house itself. Six in the library and three wandering the second floor. I had Daryl take me there to install cameras and other security stuff.” I thanked the Lord and Lady for Jason’s forethought. Upstairs first. I pulled my gun, took off the safety, chambering a round. I ascended the stairs as quietly as possible. I could feel two in the room I had been in. The other one was in the bathroom. I grinned when I reached the open door. There were two wiccans arguing about me. One believed the prophecy and she wanted to find me. The other just wanted to kill me. He said I was a menace. I fired at his head. Regardless of how tough we were, none of us could survive without our brain. The female turned around with wide eyes. The man hit the ground and was still. Another female emerged from the bathroom in a panic. I knew they recognized me by the look on their faces. I hesitated to shoot them. I could feel the hope in them. “You have two choices.” My voice was low so we couldn’t be overheard, even though they had to have heard the gun shot. “I shoot you now and go about my business. Or you can join me if you want the prophecy to be fulfilled.” “Angel, Lee and Daryl are on the way to you.” I saw both women put their hands up. “Can we come with you?” “Stay up here until my friends arrive. They will transport you themselves. Make no mistake, if you betray me, I will torture both of you to death.” They both nodded and sat on the bed to wait. I backed out of the room, closing the door. I could hear talking coming from downstairs. My magic contained the two women in the room. I had heard their thoughts. They didn’t want to harm me. They actually wanted to find their mates, even if he was in another race. I heard a scream. Aiden! I took off in a sprint. Jumping to the first floor and sprinting toward the library. I dove through the door, somersaulting into a crouch. I could see Aiden on the floor bleeding. His eyes were open but his breathing was labored. I saw the shock in his hazel eyes when he saw me. “Well look who finally showed up. I was expecting you earlier. We have unfinished business.” Mordred sounded too happy for my liking. “We do now.” My voice was low and steady. I saw four goblins in the room near my brother. Looks like they had been the ones torturing him. I pointed my gun at them and stood. They laughed at my audacity. I didn’t relax. They would die first for touching my brother. I could see Mordred out of the corner of my eye. He looked older than before. His hair had more white than brown now. Gracie. Get out of here. I failed you once and I won’t do it again. They can kill me now that I know you are alive. Aiden if you say that again I will shoot you myself. I’m already angry, don’t make it worse. “Well do your job. Get her.” Mordred spoke to the goblins. They came forward which is what I wanted. I wanted them away from Aiden so they couldn’t hurt him anymore. I felt Jonah arrive upstairs. He just couldn’t stay put could he. When the goblins reached the middle of the room I fired. I knew the bullets wouldn’t kill them but the venom would. I shot three rounds a piece into them. They smiled wickedly at me and laughed. “You think your bullets will hurt us?” The closet goblin laughed. “It’s not the bullets you should worry about.” An evil smirk formed on my face. They stopped in their tracks then. I was done dealing with these monsters. I flung them against a wall with my telekinesis. I turned towards Mordred and lowered my gun. I didn’t holster it yet, just in case. The look of shock on his face was priceless. “What should they worry about.” He whispered into the room. “The venom.” I said off handedly. “Venom! That’s not possible. I’ve never heard of anything like that.” “I make them myself.” I laughed dryly. I could smell his fear from across the room. My magic coated my brother to assess the damage done to him. He was bleeding internally with several broken bones. There was a wound in his side that was seeping blood. No wonder he was having trouble breathing. I focused on healing him while I talked to Mordred. Mordred was staring at me in horror at first. When his expression turned smug I smiled. I could feel the goblins moving. Without looking away from Mordred I raised my gun and shot each of them again. Reloading was quick and easy, it seemed to disturb Mordred even more than me shooting without looking. I felt the bleed stop in Aiden. I pushed the blood sitting in his chest cavity out of the wound in his side before it began to close. The bones were going to be a problem. “Well, I never thought I would see you again Mordred. You’re looking stressed.” My voice was polite and bored. “I have to stop you. You are causing me stress. Why couldn’t you just stay hidden somewhere. You had to go and find the wolf. Ruining all of our well laid plans!” The anger and hatred in his voice grew with each word. I laughed out loud. “You should have never involved yourself in this in the first place. The Goddesses came to me. They destroyed the magic you and your friends stole from them. Styx was very upset. She’s waiting for you and the others to reach the afterlife. I tried to talk her out of torturing you, I guess we shall see.” The color drained from his face. I felt Jonah removing the two female wiccans on the second floor. I knew he had snuck down to check on me first. At least they were safe now. “Angel, Daryl is taking out the ones on the perimeter. Lee is trying to help but we aren’t equipped to handle goblins. I’ll keep you updated.” Jason was still watching us. I was thankful he could watch the others too. I couldn’t worry about them and keep healing Aiden. I felt his bones slide slowly back into place. I wouldn’t take my eyes off Mordred to check on him. “Styx wasn’t the only one upset. They all were if I’m being honest.” One of the goblins screamed. The venom had to have reached his nervous system by now. The other ones screamed one after the other. It covered the scream that came from Aiden when I mended his ribs. I had to stop healing Aiden because it was taking a toll on me. I scanned his injuries once more. Satisfied with my handy work, I withdrew. “They talked to you?” I could smell the fear increase from him. “Yes. They told me many interesting things. But please forgive me, we have strayed from the topic at hand. You were expecting me, mind telling me why?” He looked at me in horror when I remained calm and polite. I felt Jonah closer now. I saw a flash out of the corner of my eye. Mordred was too busy staring at me to notice Jonah come in and remove Aiden from the room. The goblins were groaning in pain as the venom raced in their veins. It would be too late for them soon. About another minute and they would beyond help. “You broke the spell?” “After the Goddesses removed their magic, it was easy to destroy your spell completely. I know others helped you make it but it crumbled under my magic. I wondered if any of you would feel the spell break. I guess not.” “You won’t kill me.” “I can tell you don’t believe that. I can hear it in your voice. By the way, your goblin friends are beyond help now.” “I don’t care about the goblins. They are a means to an end.” “I’m sure they would love to hear you say that.” “Incoming Angel. Already in the house and moving fast.” “It’s sad you have no feelings towards the goblins. They are helping you after all.” “Those abominations will be destroyed after we take care of you. They will serve their purpose, then we will wipe them out.” Mordred was gloating now. I smiled as I felt the other goblin hesitate. “Such a shame. They are living beings Mordred. I would never treat a living thing with such crass words. Let alone wipe out an entire race. They are children of our Gods and Goddesses. They deserve to live a peaceful life. I wish you could see our new world when I unite our people. I should thank you really. If it wasn’t for you and your cohorts I wouldn’t be trying to do this. I never cared about uniting the races until you gentlemen interfered and stole my life from me.” The goblin entered the room behind me. The triumph on Mordred’s face was short lived when he saw the goblin heading his way. I felt his magic lash out toward the creature. It never hit its target. I redirected it back to him. He cried out when his magic rebounded. The goblin rushed him while he was distracted. I watched as he tore through Mordred’s flesh. The anger coming off the goblin was a living thing in the room. I felt Jonah behind me watching as well. When I felt Mordred try to use magic again, I shut him down. My skin was glowing softly. Mordred gurgled, choking on his own blood. I tuned into his heart so I would know when it stopped. I didn’t need to, the goblin reached into his chest. I smiled as he withdrew the heart. I waited for the goblin to turn. “You really mean what you said?” He sounded skeptical but hopeful. “Every word.” “I will ensure the goblins know what happened here today. We will never side against you again. If you need us then we will be there.” “I don’t expect you to fight for me. What is your name?” “Killian.” “Killian, it is a pleasure to meet you. I’m sorry about your friends. If you need me, please come to me. I would rather help you than have any of you suffer. No one will harm you when you leave. I’ve already sent a message out to everyone.” Killian turned to face me. Mordred’s blood covered his face and arms. He nodded towards me and began to leave, still clutching the heart in his hand.
