Chapter 13

2503 Words
Aiden was sitting in the kitchen after cleaning up. Gretchen had fussed over him when he got here. She was feeding him now. I stood against a wall watching him devour a sandwich she made him. I had removed my gun and holster. I still wore the leather. No one was speaking to me. I guess they were more than upset with me. Jasper was no where to be found. Jackson went to stay with Phillip until he calmed down. Jeremy was hiding in our room in wolf form trying to avoid me. Jonah was helping Daisy with the two females we rescued. I guess they were both healers. They had taken over healing Aiden when Jonah got him out. My other brothers were scattered around the kitchen watching Aiden as well. Alex had thanked Gretchen a thousand times for putting up with everyone. I was brooding about my men but grateful that my brothers were all here. “You need to relax little witch. They will get over their anger. Their stupidity is another story. I can’t believe they don’t trust you to handle yourself. I have half a mind to give them all a talking to.” She was a little upset that the guys had yelled at me for leaving alone. “I appreciate the gesture, Gretchen. They will either get over this issue or they won’t. I cannot change who I am. The only one that can’t leave is Jackson. The others can reject me if they can’t get over this.” I smiled at her. “That is something I would love to see any of them try.” Azalea walked into the room. Gretchen laughed. “Azalea, these are my brothers. Alex, Andy, Tony, Alistair, and Aiden. I’m not very worried about Jasper and the others. They’ll come to terms with this in time. I know they are protective. Me running into a fight without them makes them anxious. I just need them to understand who I am.” “Oh sweetheart. They’ll come around eventually. I for one am proud of you.” She grabbed a bottle of water out of the fridge and left the room. I smiled when she waved to my brothers. They were all watching me now. I knew they were wanting to know what was going on and how I could do certain things. I guess now was the time. I would have to explain this to our parents separately. I squared my shoulders, now or never. “I’m sure you guys have questions. I want you to promise to listen to what I say. Please don’t freak out, or interrupt me. You can ask questions once I’m done.” Each of my brothers nodded. “I’m not sure what happened after I was taken. I remember being in my bed and then someone was carrying me away. I was paralyzed by a potion or drug. I woke up in a hospital in Aruba. The man who found me saved my life. I was half dead. When I woke up, I had no memories and no magic. I became Jane Doe. John insisted that I come with him. He runs the Agency. It’s an organization that runs behind the scenes in every country. They answer to no one and no one knows it exists.” I was watching each of them closely. “I began to train with them. I ended up top in my class. I learned languages, martial arts, and many other things. After a couple years of training, I was in the field. I lived that life like a wraith. I always knew something was missing but no matter what we did, I couldn’t get my memories back. I had a mission in Germany and that’s when I found Jeremy. He was imprisoned in a silver cage. I freed him and started on the path I walk now.” I took a deep breath before I continued, this was it. “I was and still am employed there as an assassin. My crew are the humans on the property. They won’t leave me until someone forces them. They call me Angel because someone called me the Angel of Death. I know this is not something any of you expected. I know that you are probably upset and disappointed in me. I want you to know that Jason can pull up any of my files if you want to see them. I was the best they had and I know now that I will never be able to go back there.” The silence in the room was deafening. I looked at each of my brothers, waiting for them to explode into anger. Aiden spoke first. “You’re joking right?” “No I am not.” “You mean to tell me that these last ten years you have been killing people around the world?” I could hear the sarcasm in Tony’s voice. I gave him a small smile and nodded. “Yeah right, Gracie.” Andy snorted. “Mom will know if she’s lying when they get here. For now, let’s say we believe you.” Alex was always the voice of reason. “How is it that you were able to kill anything? Let alone a person.” “My job was to stop wars before they started. I also removed those that harmed the innocent. My targets were horrible people. I felt no shame or guilt in ending their lives.” Jake walked in with Sara at that moment. “Whoa. We missed something, didn’t we?” “A lot in fact. Sara these are my brothers. Alex, Andy, Tony, Alistair, and Aiden. Guys this is my brother Jake and his wife, my little sister, Sara.” “So some of your family arrived?” Sara exclaimed excitedly. “Just the brothers from the looks of it. Have you told them yet?” “I just did Jake. They don’t believe me though.” Sara and Jake laughed and shook their heads. “We’ll be right back.” Sara drug Jake away. “’They are the humans I mentioned. Jake and I were partners for a few years before the others joined us. He actually just proposed to Sara. People like us don’t normally do those things.” “Like us? You aren’t human Gracie.” Aiden sounded angry. “I meant assassins Aiden. I know they are human and I am not.” Sara came walking in followed by the whole crew. The guys were carrying a computer and tv screen. Jason had his arms weighed down with cables. Clever girl. She was going to show them the proof. I grinned at her while the guys set everything up. Jason turned on the screen and stepped back. Sara pulled up a file for everyone to see. My bothers all gathered in front of the screen. I wondered what she was going to show them. I heard it first. My blood ran cold as I realized she pulled up the surveillance videos from Paris. On the screen everyone could see me fighting multiple opponents. I was using weapons on some. Others were dealing with my fists and feet. I looked at my brothers and saw all of them standing there ridged. I guess nothing speaks louder than seeing me in action. I was hit sometimes during the fight but I never stopped. I watched anxiously as the worst part loomed before me. Sara cut the video before I was shot and taken hostage. I breathed a sigh of relief. No one moved. They seemed to be transfixed on the spot. Sara pulled up my profile with the Agency. My face was on the screen with all my information. It showed my rank, title, kills, everything. I waited for anyone to move. Jake took my hand and squeezed it. He knew this was going to be hard on me. I was glad he was here with me now. Alex spoke into the room. “It was true.” “Yes. It’s true Alex.” Five pair of eyes swung to me. I watched the shock in their eyes change to fear and finally anger. That was what I was waiting on. I braced myself waiting for the yelling to start. Jake stepped in front of me slightly. “Gracie.” Alistair spoke first. “You really are what you say.” “Alistair, I would not lie to you. Any of you. I know this is disturbing to hear. I understand if you guys are upset with me. I realize my choice of employment is unconventional.” “Our sister is a bad ass!” Andy sounded excited. “Andy.” His name was sharp from Alex. “Gracie, what does all of this mean for the upcoming future?” “I can fight magically or physically. I am no longer upset about having to take a life. I have become what I always should have been. I was truthful with Mordred when I said I should thank him. If they wouldn’t have went to such extremes with me, then I never would be this strong. Before they took me, I was too gentle. I would never fight to unite our world. I would have been too worried about causing pain or upsetting someone. My years with the Agency taught me to move past what is uncomfortable and rise above the pain.” “She is unstoppable. No one was ever her match. Even more so now that she can throw people around.” Brooks was laughing. “Brooks.” His name was sharp from Sara. “Now is not the time for jokes. They are having trouble with this already.” Sara joined Jake by my side. My love for them swelled. They were showing me their support and standing with me. Sara squeezed my hand. I looked to her, but her eyes were on my brothers. Slowly, the others in my crew joined us. I pushed away from the wall and moved to the front of my family. “I know this is a lot. These people have been with me when I was no one. They have stuck by me through the worst times. I will never be able to repay the kindness they have shown me. I love each of them more than I can express. They were my family when I was lost. And they are my family even now.” We waited for anything to happen. I could feel the tension in my human family. Sara clung to my hand as her life line. Jake was still slightly in front of me in a protective stance. The others spread out behind me. I could see the struggle on my brothers faces. I knew it would be hard for them to understand. It would be hard for anyone to understand let alone those who loved me. I looked at each of them in turn. Andy was all smiles as he bounced around on the spot. Tony had a smirk on his face as he watched me. Alistair’s face was blank but I could feel his acceptance. Alex looked thoughtful but a little worried. Aiden, on the other hand, was furious. “She is a bad ass. I’m ok with that.” Tony spoke up. I couldn’t help but smile. The twins came over to me and hugged me between them. Jake allowed it but he was still on alert. Sara refused to look away from the others. “I may not like it but it seems it was necessary. You are most certainly stronger now than you ever were in the past.” Alistair came to me while he spoke. I smiled and hugged him as well. My three brothers joined my crew around me. I didn’t know what Aiden was thinking but the rage coming off him was enough. Alex sighed. “You are safe now and that is all that matters.” Alex came to me then. His face was sad but he hugged me to him. I squeezed him a little, trying to comfort him. When he pulled away he gave me a small smile and pulled back from me. When he stepped aside, I saw Aiden. He was red faced and fuming. “Are you kidding me? All of you are ok with this? I saw the pictures in this one’s mind. She was tortured!” Jake froze when he referred to him. “Aiden.” My voice was soft. “It is true that I have been injured during my missions. It has never stopped me from doing what I knew was the right thing. I fought to save more lives. You may have an issue with me getting hurt but I’m proud of myself. If you need time to come to terms with this, that is fine. I will not, however, allow you to take out your anger on anyone here. I am the one deserving your anger.” Jonah walked in at this moment. He stood in front of me. “You’re just mad at yourself because you couldn’t protect her. Trust me, we all are. She has become a force to be reckoned with on her own. She would never be this strong if she would have stayed around us. We tried to protect her from everything. I hate it as much as you do. She is my mate. I couldn’t even protect her. We need to move past that and onto the future.” Aiden. I know this is hard for you. You were always my protector when I was younger. I had to learn to protect myself and those I love. It was meant to be. My mind is open to you, anytime you want to see what my life was like. I don’t think I want to know Gracie. I get it, I do. I don’t have to be happy about it though. No matter what I love you. I know you’re in danger now and will continue to be until this war is over. I just can’t handle if something happened to you. “Why are they quiet?” I heard Sara whisper to Alex. “She’s in his mind instead. They used to do that when they were younger. It would always calm Aiden down when she was in his mind.” Alex whispered back to Sara. I walked around Jonah to my brother. I could see the war of emotions on his face. He was always to most protective of me. I slid my arms around his neck pulling him close. He broke down then. I could feel the tears on my shoulder. My magic enveloped us both comforting my youngest brother. I will always need you Aiden. You are my brother and my protector. I love you. I love you too. I felt him take a deep breath. “Angel!” It was Daryl’s voice.
