I awoke to raised voices outside the bedroom. Adam groaned and pulled me towards him. We had drifted apart at some point in the night. Neither of us wanted to get up. I giggled when he snorted. So much for sleeping in. I could feel Jake’s frustration on the other side of the door. I also felt Alex’s anger. I sighed and rolled from the bed. Where were my clothes? I searched the floor and was able to find everything. Adam noticed me getting dressed and pulled some pants on. Alex barged into the room just after I zipped up my corset.
“Good morning to you too Alex.” He looked embarrassed but quickly recovered.
“Al had a vision. We wouldn’t be bothering you if it wasn’t urgent.”
“What was it?” I whispered.
“Our parents are due in today, Al saw them arrive into an ambush. We have to search the property. Their plane lands in two hours.” I heard the urgency in his voice.
“Jake. Have Jason and Tony monitor the cameras. I want Ben and Adam with John and Rachel. Sara will stay with Isabelle. I want to make sure she’s safe with her being pregnant. The rest of us will search the property. You and Brooks know the property best so pair up with someone who hasn’t walked the territory before.”
“Lee knows it as well. He’s been going with Brooks or me when we patrol.”
“Very well. L will go with you and Olesia with Brooks. Have Lee pair up with whoever comes to help.” I was issuing orders like before.
“I will go with your humans.”
“You don’t have to Alex. I’m sure someone else will volunteer. I know you’ll want to stay close in case our parents need you.”
“Our parents can handle themselves Gracie. Besides Tony and Andy are already working on a counter attack with Al. Aiden is in the kitchen with Gretchen.”
“Aiden? In the kitchen?”
“He is trying to convince Gretchen to hide away with her family. She’s quite protective of you though. I believe she told him to mind his own business and leave her alone. So he was pouting off to the side so he could watch over her.” The teasing in Alex’s voice made me grin.
“Oh that is funny. Gretchen would never hide from anything.” Adam was putting on his shoes laughing at the imagine in our heads.
“Ok, let’s get moving. You have your orders Jake. Keep in touch with each other and Jason can update me as needed. Be safe. All of you.”
I took off before they could respond. I didn’t even notice that Adam was following me with my boots. I forgot to put them on. He handed them off to me when we reached the house. Jackson and Jasper were waiting for us on the porch. Jasper opened the door and followed us inside. Isabelle was at the bottom of the stairs looking frantic. I went to her immediately.
“Isabelle, I want you out of the way. I will not take chances with you carrying my nephews. They are more important than having you help us. Luther, please take Isabelle to your room. Sara will be joining you shortly to help protect her.”
Luther scooped Isabelle into his arms while she tried to protest. Sara came running into the house while Luther carried her away. I nodded to Sara and went into the kitchen. Gretchen was angry, that much I could tell without my empathy. Aiden was indeed standing off to the side watching everything.
“Little witch.” I could feel her anger lash out. “I am trying to be patient but if this boy doesn’t leave my kitchen soon, I will lose my patience completely.”
“Aiden. Please find Andy and the others. They will need your help. Gretchen and her family are fully capable of handling themselves. If I believed any differently, I would guard her myself.”
Aiden raised a brow but walked slowly out of the room. Gretchen nodded towards me as a dismissal. I bowed slightly and followed Aiden out. I went into the sitting room and Adam took the stairs with Ben, who had just arrived. I watched Adam ascend the stairs longing to stay with him. He winked at me and blew a kiss before turning away from me. Why did this feel like the last time I would see him like this?
I couldn’t think like that. I sent him to John so he would be safe. They would be inside the house and out of harm’s way. That’s why I gave that order. I shook the feeling off and went into the sitting room. I had the ear piece in my ear still from yesterday. I didn’t remember until it chimed in my ear.
“Angel. I found their flight. Daryl and Phillip are here and they want to know if you want them to pick up your parents.”
“If they don’t mind then yes. Tell them I appreciate it. Thanks Jason.”
I walked into the sitting room to find my remaining brothers arguing about what should be done. Al was quietly sitting in a corner with his eyes closed. I knew he was trying to analyze the vision. Tony and Andy were bickering like they usually did. I sighed and cleared my throat. Jackson placed his hand on my shoulder, Jasper laced our fingers together. I guess they forgave me for being so blind.
“Gentlemen. What’s the plan?”
“Well Andy, wants to just go get them ourselves and leave everyone here to deal with the ambush. I think we should send you to get them. That way you will be safe with them while we deal with the attack.” Tony’s anger came out in his words.
“That is not the way to do it Tony. Gracie is our greatest weapon. She should be here with the attack party. She can handle herself better than anyone else.” Andy crossed his arms on his chest.
“Well, Daryl and Phillip offered to pick up our parents so that solves that problem. I’m not going anywhere. I know you want to keep me safe but I will defend my home. Everyone I care about is here. I won’t leave them to face an unknown threat without me. I’ll have my mates with me anyway. They’ll protect me if I need them to.”
Andy grinned triumphally at Tony. Aiden laughed at the disgruntled look on Tony’s face. I turned to Alistair then. I needed to see what he saw. I slid into his mind lightly. I didn’t want to disturb him.
I feel you there Gracie. Let’s look at this together.
I gave him the equivalent of a nod in his mind. The vision began to play out before us. I stood beside Alistair in the front yard. We watched as one of our cars pulled into the drive. It contained my parents no doubt. I saw Daryl driving with a nervous Phillip in the passenger seat. Once the car came to a stop, chaos erupted. My brothers were waiting on the porch but where was I? I watched them jump into the yard ready to fight. Fire erupted between the car and Aiden. He yelled loudly when it burned him.
Andy and Tony rushed into the flames then. They could handle the fire. I was proud watching them walk inside the fire controlling the flames. Eren and Jasper came out to help with the fires. I watched as they extinguished the flames. That’s when I saw them. Three beings, demons, were standing back towards the mouth of the drive. Who were they?
Alistair stopped the vision then. I walked with him toward the trio. There was one man and two women standing in front of us now. They looked similar. They all had a reddish tint to their skin almost like Isabelle and Azalea. I knew they were from the demon race though, even in the vision. I shared the information with Alistair. I felt his shock immediately.
I studied the trio, trying to figure out what they were. They all had dark hair down their back. I felt attracted to them which was strange in a vision. It hit me then, they were an incubus and succubi. They weren’t the cause of the fire. They were a distraction. Where was the main threat then. I shared the discovery with Alistair as I looked around us. I had used this exact tactic a time or two. Everyone would be distracted by the trio while the real threat hit us from behind.
I turned toward the car then. The threat had to be back there. Alistair joined my efforts to find the cause of the fire. We covered every inch of the car, even the under carriage. I allowed my magic to scan as well. Nothing was near the car but my parents, Daryl, and Phillip. I was becoming frustrated the longer we search. I could feel Alistair becoming desperate as well. My magic flared out with my frustration and impatience. I felt something.
I froze and looked toward the house. How had I missed someone sitting there? There was a man sitting in one of the chairs watching everything take place. He looked strange to me. His features were canine like but humanoid. His smile looked predatory. I searched my memories trying to identify this being. What sort of demon was this? I was back in the sitting room before I could blink. Alistair was standing now, looking at me in awe.
“You have grown more than we realized.” Alistair said more to himself. He addressed everyone next. “We have a problem. There will be an incubus and two succubi as a distraction at the mouth of the drive. The real threat will be sitting on the porch watching the chaos. We’ll be dealing with a hell hound.”
“Shit.” Andy and Tony said in unison.
“We can handle it. He will start a fire around the car our parents will be in. Aiden, stay back no matter what. You were burned in the vision. Jasper, I don’t want to but, can you and Eren help put out the fire? I know I’ll worry about you being in danger.”
“Mo chroí I will most certainly help you with the flames. My father will as well. He has become quite fond of you.” Jasper squeezed my hand.
“Jackson do you think you could help Phillip get my parents into the house? I know it won’t be easy but I want them safe.”
“Of course my love. I will protect them while you are busy.” Jackson looked into my face lovingly. I smiled gratefully to him.
“Already letting Phillip know Angel.” Jason’s voice cut through.
“Jason is already letting Phillip know as well. I forgot he was listening. I’ll need Jeremy to take out one of the trio at the gate. Where is he?”
“Right here chere.”
I turned to watch him walk into the room. I would never get used to see him shirtless. He pulled me into a brief hug which stopped my brain from working completely. He smiled down at me like he knew what it would do to me. Touché sir.
“Gracie?”
“Sorry. My mind wandered.” They all chuckled at my admission. “Ok, what was I saying?”
“I’m taking out one of the three at the gate.” Jeremy’s playfulness was back.
“Right. I’ll need two others to help you with that. Andy and Tony, do you think you could handle that?”
“Oh yeah. I’m ready.” Tony clapped.
“No playing around you two. Those three are still dangerous. I don’t want to see you goofing off.” Aiden cut in on the conversation.
“Aiden’s right. Please, for my sake, don’t play around.” I gave them both a glare. “Alistair and Aiden, I want you on the porch. You will take our parents from Jackson and Phillip once they get them out. They will be in your care until this is over.”
They both nodded showing me they understood. “Where am I going to be Vi?”
“Jonah, you will be in the command center. I want you in charge of everyone from there. If something happens, you can get to them faster than the rest of us. I would feel safer with you watching over all of us.”
“As you wish Vi.” He gave me a little bow before making his way to Jason.
“Jason? Jonah is coming to you. I need you and Tony to watch the monitors and cameras. Let me know if you need me but Jonah can handle anything else.”
“You got it Angel.”
Daisy came in with Sam and Roy. “What about us my lady?”
“Daisy. I know that I can trust you to handle the perimeter with the others. I want you and Rose safely placed out of danger. Let the others fight. Luke can watch out for you both. Sam and Roy will remain close as well. Just in case.”
“Very well my lady. Let’s go gentlemen.”
They disappeared after that. I knew they would be fine. I just had to put them out of harm’s way. None of us were a match for the demons but we would face them regardless. Jasper kissed my temple before he took off looking for his father. Jackson kissed me lightly before taking off to get ready. Jeremy grinned at me and shifted right then and there. I laughed when his wolf jumped up to lick my face. He took off after that.
“Well I must say Gracie, you issue orders well.” Aiden said offhandedly.
“I sure do. I want Alex with us during all of this. His magic will be helpful if we get into trouble. I’ll have Justin and Luna join Lee on patrol. They will be the best choice since they run the land in wolf form.”
I sent the message to Justin and Luna while I spoke. They both agreed to keep Lee safe. I cut the link with them and turned toward the kitchen. I knew Gretchen and her family could handle themselves but I needed their help. She might not like what I had in mind though. I know Roy would be infuriated by my idea. I didn’t even know if it would work.
I found Gretchen in the kitchen still with her daughters. She spotted me and narrowed her eyes. I stopped her from telling us off again.
“Gretchen. I need your help.”
Her expression changed completely. “What do you need little witch.”
“That little trick of yours. The disappearing thing? Can your whole family do that?”
“Of course little witch.” She sounded spectacle of my inquiry.
“Does it work just on yourselves or can you use it on others?”
A mischievous smile lit her face, “I believe I know why you are curious little witch. Two of us could conceal you if that is your desire.”
“You read my mind. Can two of you conceal me on the porch while the ambush happens?”
“Of course. Gwen and Gayle are the best so they can conceal you and themselves.”
“Wonderful. Do you think the rest of you can watch out for the others for me. It should be easy since you can disappear. I know I would feel better knowing you are watching over them.”
“We will certainly do that for you little witch. Gwen, get Gayle and meet her on the porch. Don’t do anything unless she says so.”
Gwen nodded towards her mother and went to find her sister. Gretchen took Greta in search of the others. Now we just had to wait. This would be the hardest two hours ever.
