Chapter 4

2100 Words
We sat around the food and talked. Catching Jonah up was the main discussion. I didn’t eat much. The food was delicious as always but I wasn’t hungry. Jackson had me on his lap while the others talked and ate. Jonah was telling a story about when I was little. He was older than me by five years so he had watched me grow up. I guess I was a quiet kid and didn’t even cry much as a baby. He used to sit by my bassinet reading fairy tales to me from a big book. Something’s on your mind my love. Jackson’s worried voice slid into my head smoothly. Our connection was effortless now that our souls were tied together. I can’t stop thinking about that call with Victor. Why didn’t he believe Jonah? Something was just off. I can’t put my finger on it but I know something was wrong. Where was my mother? Why would they be in Japan? Very good questions. Maybe we should ask Jonah. He might know the answers. I sighed aloud and snuggled closer to Jackson. “Jonah?” “Yes Vi.” “Why did Victor not believe you found me? Where was my mother? And why are they in Japan? It just doesn’t seem right to me. Something is off that I can’t see. I know it is.” Jonah sighed. “Vi, they’ve been looking for you for over ten years. There have been many leads but none of them went anywhere. Unlike them, you have multiple gifts. You’re father and Alex have telekinesis. Andy and Tony are pyrokinetic, they’re twins be the way. Al is an empath with visions. Aiden is telepathic. Your mom is an empath as well as being able to hear lies. Al had a vision of you in Japan so your parents went there to look. They didn’t know if it was the past or future but they had to try. Your mom has been having trouble controlling her gift so she secludes herself somewhere away from others. Victor has to go into the city to make calls.” “So I have all of their gifts?” “Only much stronger than theirs. You can control people with your telepathy, Aiden cannot. As an empath, you can feel different energies in people, your mom and Al cannot. Last I knew your telekinesis was stronger than Alex or your father. You could level an entire town if you chose. You worried too much about the people in the town though so you never did. Tony and Andy are different too. Their pyrokinesis is not something that anyone has had before. It comes from your grandmother on your mom’s side. It’s different than an elemental somehow but I don’t really understand it. Your grandmother Vivian is from the demon race. She is mated to Alexander, your grandfather.” “So I am part demon?” I sounded like a kid afraid of the boogeyman. “Yeah. No one knew your grandmother was a full blooded demon princess. Her father is Merihem, the prince of violence. She feels like a human though since her mom was part djinn.” “That’s why you feel human to everyone little one.” “Vivian, your grandmother, can mask herself to be anything. She used to play pranks on people from what I hear. She’s fire proof from my understanding and can manipulate it as well. Alexander is a telepath. You inherited pretty much everything they have. Grace and Anthony were both telekinetic. They passed after Alex was born. Their ship went down in the ocean. Everyone looked for them for a while until Al was born. It took fifty years but they are presumed dead. Aiden was born the same time I was. Your parents didn’t expect to get pregnant with you so soon. They can tell you better than I can.” “Can my brother’s smell fear too?” “You can smell fear? I know your grandmother can but I don’t think anyone else can.” I just nodded and pulled into myself. There was a lot of information to process. I really didn’t know how to take it all in. Jonah knew a lot about me and my family. I needed to talk to someone, other than my mates. Jake and Sara were busy, I’m sure. I expanded my magic to the ballroom. My crew was still in there with some of the others. They were having a good time so I couldn’t talk to any of them. I felt Daryl in his room asleep and Daisy and Sam sitting on the front porch talking. Everyone else was in the ballroom. I extracted myself from Jackson and walked out of the room. I could feel the guys on my heels. I kept going out the front door and into the yard. I knew who I could talk to. I just hoped he was awake. I went to the control room and sat down at the computers. I dialed John on an encrypted line. I prayed he was awake and near his computer. “Angel. What’s wrong honey?” “John.” The relief I felt came out in his name. He really looked at me then. His face transformed from distracted to concerned. He knew it was something big for me to call like this. Jeremy whispered to Jonah about who John was to me. The others remained quiet. “My sweet Angel. What’s going on? You haven’t had that look in a long time. Tell me what’s going on and we’ll figure it out together.” I could hear the love in his voice. “I’m sorry to bug you so late John. I didn’t know who else I could talk to. I know you’re still busy sorting everything out. How is that going by the way?” He snorted and gave me a skeptical look. “This must be really big. Everything is calming down here. I’m pretty sure I found a replacement but I’m still working through the logistics. Now enough about this place. Talk to me.” I sighed and closed my eyes to fight the tears. “I found my family. My biological family that is. I still have no memories but they’ve been searching for me. Someone showed up today and recognized me. He was able to contact my father and let them know. The family is supposed to be coming here.” I opened my eyes as I spoke. “That’s wonderful. I’m so glad you found them honey. That doesn’t explain the face though.” He raised an eyebrow as he studied my face. The guilt I felt was crushing me. “I’m not their daughter any longer John. He called me his princess. I’m not that girl anymore. I’ve done a lot of things in the last years with the Agency. I know my kills were bad people and deserved it, but I’m still afraid of their reaction.” I whisper the last part. John’s face softened and a look of understanding slid to his face. “Grace, my sweet girl. You may not be the girl they lost but you are still their daughter. They will love you as much as we do. You are the most amazing woman I’ve had the pleasure of having in my life.” “Is that Angel?” I heard a woman’s voice in the background. “Yes sweetheart.” The smile I saw from John was full of love as his wife came into view. Her dark hair was in a messy bun. Her hazel eyes held joy when she saw me. I couldn’t help the smile from forming on my face. Rachel was as beautiful as ever. She looked so healthy after her scare. She had gotten pneumonia and was hospitalize for about a month. I called John everyday to check on her. I was so worried that I almost went to the hospital. John had told me they wouldn’t even let him in her room so I should stay where I was. He updated me anytime something new occurred. She had just gotten home last week. “Rachel. I’m so happy to see you home and feeling better.” My voice came out loving. “Oh sweetie. I’m so happy to see you. You are as beautiful as ever. How are you? John said you were threatening to come raise Hell at the hospital if they weren’t treating me well.” I heard her laugh and it warmed my heart. “I did more than threaten. I called the hospital myself. I told them if anything happened to you I would destroy their hospital. They thought I meant legal or publicly. I was going to burn it to the ground after I got all the patients out.” She laughed hard then. I smiled and enjoyed her laughter. She snorted and giggled. “You would do that. I have no doubt. What’s going on with you though. I miss our girl. He’s driving me crazy without you around.” I laughed then. “I’m sure he is. I know how he can get sometimes.” “Hey I’m not that bad.” Rachel and I giggled then. “If you say so honey.” She patted his arm and turned back to me. “I called to get some advice honestly. We were able to locate my biological family. I guess my mother and father have been searching for me since I disappeared. I guess I’m the only girl. I have five older brothers. My mother’s parents are alive too but I don’t know if they will show up. I’m scared. I’m not the same girl they lost. I’ve done so much since then. What if they don’t like me? Or they are ashamed of me?” “Angel!” Rachel narrowed her eyes at me. “Enough of that nonsense. You are a wonderful woman. I imagine our Grace would have been like you had she lived. You are smart and kind. You care for everyone and ask for nothing in return. All the things you have done as an agent was to prevent wars and loss of innocent lives. You are beautiful, humble, and the hardest working person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. They may not know you now but they are your family sweetheart. They will love you as much as we do. You are everything someone could want in a daughter. I am proud of you. And I just adopted you. I can only imagine how your mother will feel. The love and pride, most of all the relief. You have become unstoppable in the best ways. Never forget how amazing you truly are.” The tears fell down my cheeks as I listen to her tell me everything. The love I heard in her words touched my heart like nothing I ever thought could. I gave her a small smile. “No matter what happens, I want you both to know that I love you. You will always be my mom and dad. I wouldn’t be any of that without you. I’m grateful you found me and accepted me as your family. If you get a chance, please come visit us. I would love for you to meet everyone. Well the ones you don’t know.” I wiped my tears off my cheeks and gave them a true smile. “Oh we will. You can count on it. I was just cleared to be able to travel. I told John I want to see our girl and I didn’t care what he had going on.” Rachel’s laughter rang out as she teased her husband. “It will probably be next week. I have to have a discussion with you anyway. I have some ideas that I’d like to run by you. There are a few things for me to wrap up but we’ll come visit. I’ll let you know when I book the plane. For now, listen to us my sweet Angel. You have nothing to worry over. We both love you and are here if you need us.” Rachel waved, I nodded. John ended the call after that. I sighed in relief and turned around to the men at my back. Jeremy was all smiles watching me. Jackson looked concerned but relieved as well. Jasper just winked at me smiling. I smiled at each of them and turned to Jonah. He was watching me closely.
