I woke up alone in our bed. Where was everyone? I sat up and looked around the room. I was completely alone. I tried to expand my magic but it wouldn’t respond to me. What was going on? I crawled out of bed confused. I went to the bathroom door but when I opened it there was nothing behind the door. I stared into emptiness panicking. I wasn’t in our room anymore. So where was I?
I shut the door and surveyed the room. I was alone at least. I reached for my magic but it was gone. I felt empty inside. I finally got it back and it’s gone? Grief consumed me as I felt broken without that part of me. I barely noticed a presence in the room. I pushed the grief aside and searched the room.
Behind me by the bed was a woman. She was glowing lightly. Her long dark hair was down and moving slightly. Her pale blue eyes seemed to see right to my soul. I stilled and watched her. Her skin looked like the color of the full moon. She watched me with a slight smile on her face.
“You are probably wondering what is happening.” Her voice was like a melody playing in the room.
“Also who you are.” My voice came out low.
“That’s an easy one. I am Selene, the Goddess of the moon. I needed to talk to you and this was the easiest way.” Her voice came out excited.
The shock showed on my face as I stared at her. “Why?”
“Although we all want to talk to you, I am the first. You are very special to all of us. We all had a hand in your creation and birth. I’m still a little upset about not being able to help you like I want. Stupid rules.” I just kept staring at her. What was she talking about?
“Selene.” The voice I heard was reprimanding.
“Oh Gaia. You know you’re just as mad as I am. All we could do is watch her as she was lost and abused. I’ll never forgive them for stopping us from intervening.”
Selene crossed her arms over her chest as another woman appeared next to her. I marveled at the new comer. She was the earth personified. Her brown hair was pulled on top of her head in braids. Her deep brown eyes reminded me of the trees in our woods. She was clothed in green like grass.
“I may be upset but that is a discussion for others, not our daughter.” She turned to me then, “I do apologize for my sister’s outburst. I am Gaia, the Goddess of earth.”
“I think I am losing my mind. Why would one Goddess want to talk to me, let alone two. And you have a daughter?” I couldn’t understand what was happening.
“Not just two.” The voice came out of nowhere.
Four more women appeared in front of me. They were all as beautiful as the first two. These must be Goddesses too. I still didn’t understand why they wanted to talk to me. I was no one. I looked to the Goddess next to Selene. She was the night in human form, like my Jackson. Her dark skin was speckled with lights, like stars. Her eyes were looking at me lovingly as they swirled.
I moved to the next one and almost gasped. She looked like death. Her beauty was ethereal. Her gray skin and milky eyes were somehow warm and inviting. She was smiling at me. The next one looked like a dream. She wore a night gown of clouds, actual clouds. Her bright yellow hair looked alive like light. The next Goddess caused me to gasp. I knew this one. She was Hecate, the Goddess of withcraft. Her black eyes were alive with laughter. Her skin was pale like mine and her gray hair was lose and flowing. I could feel the magic surrounding her.
“Hecate?” My voice came out a whisper.
“Well my child at least you know me. These are my sister Goddesses. Selene and Gaia you’ve met. The others are Asteria, Goddess of night.” She pointed to the one that looked like the night.
“It is a pleasure to meet you.” She sounded sleepy when she talked.
“This is Styx, Goddess of deathly things.” She pointed to the death looking one.
“I have other things too Hecate.” She sounded grumpy. I smiled at her.
“I’m Pheobe!” The dreamy one exclaimed.
“I am honored to meet you all. But I really don’t understand what’s going on.”
“We are here to help you. Vivian, you are a part of a prophecy that Pheobe herself created. We all helped when you were being created. I gave you strong magical abilities. Pheobe gave you the gift of visions. Asteria gave the calming effect that you have on others. Gaia gave you the ability to be grounded in any situation.” Hecate was naming things off.
“I gave her more than that. I gave you the ability to communicate with other living beings as well.” Gaia looked at me lovingly.
“That’s why I can talk to Jeremy when he’s a wolf?”
“Exactly!” Gaia sounded proud that I connected the two.
“I gave you the healing ability like my lycans.” Selene stated so calmly.
“That’s why I can heal Jackson and myself?”
“Most certainly. You will realize that the others will heal faster around you as well.”
I stared wide eyed at Selene. “I don’t deserve all these gifts.”
“Enough. You have a difficult task ahead of you. We had to give you these gifts so the prophecy can be fulfilled. It was the best thing to do to ensure that you survive with your mates.” Styx sound angry now.
“Forgive Styx, she gets grumpy sometimes.”
“She’s fine. I understand why. She’s around death at all times. That cannot be easy.”
All of the Goddesses smiled at me and nodded. Styx seemed to smirk at me.
“Well I see you use my gift well. I gave you the wisdom of the dead. I knew it would help you to live fully and not take life for granted.”
“Thank you, all of you. I’m truly grateful.”
“Ok we’ve strayed a little. Vivian you are as much ours as your mother’s. A fight is coming to you. We need to warn you that you will lose someone you love. We can’t prevent it but we can help prepare you. Please don’t ask us who, we can’t tell you.” Selene explained their reason for appearing to me.
Fear took hold in my mind. “Please don’t. I don’t want to lose anyone.”
Gaia and Selene came to me and held me. I closed my eyes and tried to calm myself. I couldn’t lose anyone. I loved them all. What if it was one of my mates, I wouldn’t survive that. They said they gave me the gifts so that my mates and I could survive. That didn’t mean they meant the men with me now. The Gods can be funny at times. Some of them can be quite cruel if they choose to. I took a deep breath and opened my eyes.
“Listen carefully. We were the only ones allowed to appear to you. Others wanted to be here too. We have become very protective of you. We know that you have removed much of the spell on you. That was amazing to see. Your friends care about you enough to risk themselves. Make no mistake, if they try anymore, they will die.” Hecate paused to make sure I understood. “We are here now to help break the spell enough for you to destroy it. It was made in our names with stolen magic. I can’t tell you how furious we were when they used our names for this. The only reason it took hold is our involvement with you.”
“They used our connection to cause you harm. I will ensure their afterlife reflects their actions.” Styx sounded deadly.
“They should not have used your connection to me for their advantage. However, I’m glad they did. Because of their deeds, I became stronger. I can do so much more than before. They have created a formidable opponent. I can fight magically and physically. It makes it so much harder for them to stop me.” I spoke fiercely.
“That is true Styx. She’s a beast!” Pheobe was so bubbly that Styx scowled.
Selene rolled her eyes at the two. I giggled as she picked up where Hecate had left off. “Anyway. Each one of us are removing the part of the spell designed after us. This will weaken the spell enough so you can break it completely. When you’re ready of course. I know you’re afraid of what’s behind the wall.”
“I don’t know if I want to know what’s behind there honestly. I’m terrified to know.”
Gaia ran her hand through my hair as she spoke. “You are the same woman now that you were before. Even without memories, you have an unbreakable spirit. They can never take that away. We have been so proud of you. After they abused you, you brushed it off and lived like it never happened.”
Tears began to fall from my eyes. These incredible women were proud of me. The joy and love swelled in me as I looked at each Goddess. I was truly blessed even without their involvement. I nodded and wiped my tears away.
“What do I need to do to help you?”
“Nothing my child. We will remove our parts in reverse order. Styx is first, last is Hecate. Just relax and it will be over before you know it.” Selene caressed my cheek before her and Gaia stepped away from me.
Styx came forward and immediately reached for me. “I Styx, Goddess of deathly things, remove the part of myself that was invoked to create this curse imposed on our daughter Raven.”
I looked at her puzzled. I felt something inside of me release its hold. Pheobe clapped and stepped up next. “Your name with us is Raven. We have to use it because it’s more powerful than the name your mother gave you.”
She giggled as she mimicked what Styx did. “I Pheobe, Goddess of prophecy, remove the part of myself that was invoked to create the curse plaguing our daughter Raven.”
I couldn’t help but smile at her bubbly voice. No wonder she looked like a dream. She was the Goddess of prophecy; some say they’re like a dream. I felt the same release as before. I felt lighter somehow as each hold was released by the Goddesses. Asteria took Pheobe’s place and nodded toward me.
“I Asteria, Goddess of the night, remove the part of myself that was invoked to create the curse imprisoning our daughter Raven.” Her sleepy voice rang out and another weight dropped away.
Gaia stepped up next. “I Gaia, Goddess of earth, remove the part of myself that was invoked to create the curse to trap our daughter Raven.”
This release was more than the others. I gasped as I felt something fall away from me. Selene stepped up next. I watched wide eyed as she took a deep breath.
“I Selene, Goddess of the moon, remove the part of myself that was invoked to create the curse taming our daughter Raven.”
I placed my hand over my heart as I felt a force within me unleash. What had they done to me? The Goddesses were angry for being used to harm me but it seemed they were giving me back so much more. Hecate was in front of me now. I saw her sister Goddesses flank her as she raised both hands toward me.
“I Hecate, Goddess of witchcraft and Mother of the wiccans, destroy any invocations that were used in creation of a curse to hinder our daughter Raven.”
I felt power course through me as they all reached out to me. I could feel each of them running through my veins. Their strength and love raced through my body. I could feel the spell dissolve under the power of these women. I began to glow softly as I felt myself becoming whole again. I joined my intent with them and felt the spell shudder.
“I Vivian Grace, Daughter Raven of the Goddesses, destroy this curse imposed on me by others intent to cause me harm.”
My voice rang out strong. I saw all the Goddesses smile and nod. The light intensified and the power increased. I closed my eyes and thanked them for helping me. I felt a lurch in my body and the power faded. I slowly opened my eyes expecting to see the Goddesses. They were gone. I was standing in the middle of the ballroom alone.
