Chapter 10

I woke in our bed alone again. I groaned and shut my eyes tighter. I was naked still so I really hoped this wasn’t another meet and greet with the Gods or Goddesses. I felt the bed dip down. Jeremy crawled beside me. I smiled with my eyes closed. At least I was still with my mates. I felt him kiss my temple lightly.

“Are you hungry chere?”

I popped an eye open to see his face. He was smiling at me lovingly. My stomach decided to answer for me. It grumbled loudly. Jeremy’s smile widened.

“I guess that’s a yes.” He chuckled.

I shut my eye and snuggled into the pillow I had. Jeremy was laughing when I felt Jasper pull me out of bed. I whined. I opened my eyes slightly to see what was happening. Jackson and Jonah were setting up a picnic blanket on the floor by the couches. I heard our door open and close. I stiffened in Jasper’s arms.

“It was Jay mo chroí. He went to get the food for us.”

I relaxed and opened my eyes fully. “Are we having a picnic?”

“Jack thought this would be better than dressing you. We didn’t want to cover your beautiful body.” Jasper waggled his eyebrows at me.

I laughed and our door opened again. Jeremy came walking in with a big tray in his hands. Jackson left then to get the rest. Jasper placed me on a pillow and kissed my temple. Jonah helped Jeremy set the food out for everyone. It smelled wonderful. I noticed everyone had a different dish. Mine was mushroom ravioli. My eyes lit up and I squealed.

“Brooks shared his recipe with Gretchen. Jasper thought you might want your favorite.” Jeremy smiled at me sheepishly.

“So Gretchen made this from Brooks’ secret recipe? He won’t share that with anyone.”

“I guess Gretchen won him over.” Jonah laughed.

Jackson returned then carrying another tray. This one had drinks and my bread. There was also an array of other things but my eye landed on the bread and stuck. My stomach grumbled again. I dug in after that. The first bite was better than ever. It tasted just like Brooks made. I groaned, digging in with relish. The guys laughed at my enthusiasm. Savoring eat bite, I just ignored them. No one could dampen my good mood now. I was wrong again.

A knock sounded on our door. Really? I whined when Jackson went to answer the door. He turned back to us and his expression scared me. He shut the door again. I watched him disappear into my closet. Emerging with my boots and clothes. All of a sudden I lost my appetite.

“You need to get dressed my love. That was Luther. Someone is here to see you. He refused to give his name so he is waiting in the drive with Phillip, Daryl, and Justin watching him.” His voice was tired during the explanation of our interruption.

I sighed and pulled the tee over my head. My shorts came next before I put on my favorite boots. “Well so much for a quiet picnic to ourselves.”

I led the way out of our room hand in hand with Jonah. We left the picnic still set up. I was hoping we could get back to it without much delay. I didn’t understand why I could not have one moment of peace without interruption. Why would anyone come here looking for me and not give their name. The only thing that came to my mind was the person might be an enemy. There would be no reason to conceal their identity. Jonah squeezed my hand. We reached the front door. I allowed Jonah to go through before me. Jasper and Jeremy were next. Jackson caressed my cheek and he went out there as well.

Vi, you are never going to believe this. I felt his excitement through our link.

I took a deep breath and walked out into the unknown. I was nervous about a visitor but with the spell broken, I was whole again. My eyes searched the drive trying to see our guest. I walked off the porch and into the yard. I stopped in my tracks when I saw the scene in front of me. Justin and Phillip were standing close to a man with his back turned to me. They watched him wearily while Daryl was in bear form, growling low. That’s the reason the man had his back to me. I smiled at the polar bear.

“Daryl, let me meet our guest before you devour him.”

The laughter in my voice had the bear bouncing around. He was excited I was here. Daryl had become one of my favorites as time passed. We spent a lot of time together just relaxing. He was normally eating of course. He would finish my plate for me too. We tried to hide it from everyone since they said I never ate enough.

Daryl ran away from the others. I was laughing as he pranced around me playfully. He was in a good mood so Gretchen must have fed him already. He came closer and I began to scratch his ears. His tongue fell out of his mouth when he plopped down in front of me. He was so goofy.

I turned my attention back to our guest slowly. He was lean and tall. His blonde hair was pulled back at the nape of his neck. He was around Jake’s height, about six foot or so. I could feel he was a wiccan but that’s the only thing I felt. His emotions were just not there at all. I saw Jonah out of the corner of my eye, he was all smiles. What was going on?

The stranger turned toward me slowly and I froze. His hazel eyes held relief when they landed on me. His face changed from a blank expression to pure bliss. I couldn’t believe my eyes. This was Alistair, my brother. He chuckled and opened his arms wide. I jumped over Daryl and ran right into his arms. He was chuckling at my enthusiasm. The tension dissipated as soon as everyone saw my reaction. I hugged him to me gratefully.

“There’s my girl. I see my vision was true.”

“What vision?” I looked into his eyes confused.

“A very bubbly woman came to me in a vision. She told me where to find you. I learned about the spell on you. I’ve never met a Goddess before but she was interesting.”

“That had to be Phoebe! She is bubbly and a little like a dream.”

He chuckled. “Yeah she was. Dad called shortly after and told me Jonah had found you. I was in South America so I rushed here. I still can’t believe you are standing with me right now. I want to hear everything Gracie. I have missed you dearly.” He had always called me by my middle name since I was born, all my brothers did.

“I don’t know if you want to hear everything Alistair. Some of it might be difficult for all of you to hear.” My nerves came back tenfold, my voice reflected it as well.

His face softened. “My dear little sister, I don’t care how difficult it is. I want to know everything, as will the others. We were lost without you. I know Aiden will lose his mind when he gets here. It was hardest on him. He blamed himself that you were taken from us.”

“It wasn’t his fault. Ok yeah, he was near me when they took me but that doesn’t mean it was his fault. They knew we were asleep. They had been tracking us for a while.”

“You know this, the rest of us too. But you know how Aiden is. He refused to even talk to any of us and took off first. I would have visions of him sometimes but he moved constantly.” Alistair sighed.

“Has anyone talked to him yet about finding me?”

“Dad was trying but you know Aiden.”

“Stubborn. I have an idea. Come with me.”

I took off to our command center, Alistair keeping pace at my side. I felt the others following us. Daryl bounded up to my other side. I giggled as I saw he was still in bear form. I loved when the lycans would change into their animal halves. They were more playful and carefree. I laughed out loud when Daryl was distracted by a butterfly that crossed our path.

Jeremy groaned behind me. “Really D? You’re a polar bear for crying out loud.”

“Wolfie, let him go. He’s having fun.”

We reached the cabin control center. Walking into chaos was not what I expected but here we are. Lee was cursing about a breach or something. Jason was typing away and sliding his chair around the room to different machines. Sara was on the phone with someone, by the sounds of it she was beyond angry. Olesia was trying to flip through the security cameras but Tony kept switching the wrong screen.

“Enough!” My voice rang out clear and the room froze.

“Angel, we had a breach on the north end of the property. Jake went to check it out.”

“Alone? Please tell me he isn’t alone Jason.”

“Brooks and L went into town. We tried to stop him but he pulled rank.” I heard Jason mumble the last part.

My blood ran cold and my heart stopped. “Where is he?”

The amount of anger and venom in my words plunged them into silence. Jason pulled up a camera for me instead of saying anything. I watched on the screen as Jake was pacing by a weaker spot on the property. He was mumbling to himself. My magic responded to my distress immediately. I felt Jonah’s magic join mine. We used to do this as kids. He would lend me his ability to transport himself. My eyes closed. I pulled up the image in my mind of Jake. I heard Sara gasp and cry out to Jake. The fear in her voice shot through my heart. Our magic jerked within me hard. I took the pain it caused to fuel my need to have Jake safe with me.

“What the….”

My eyes flew open when I heard Jake’s voice. Sara rushed him first crying. I was next. He held us both trying to calm us down. I was so relieved he was safe that I forgot there was something else out there. I pulled back from Sara and Jake to find out what caused her outburst.

“I don’t want to know what just happened, do I?” Jake was asking me.

“Probably not.” Jonah answered.

I smiled and winked at Jake. Adam and Ben came bursting into the room then. The anger coming off Adam was overwhelming.

“Are you insane! You went by yourself! Why do you have a death wish. Don’t you know how upset she would be if something happened to you!” Adam was yelling at Jake.

I was taken aback. I didn’t know Adam cared about Sara like that. “Adam, please calm down. I was able to pull Jake back. But if he ever does something like this again, you have my permission to smack him around. I’m touched you were so worried about Sara during this.”

Adam groaned and stared right at me. “I don’t give a s**t about anyone but you. He’s your brother and you love him. If you were that upset about a vision of me dying, how would you be if Jake died. You would be distraught and I can’t handle that.”

I stilled at his words. “Me? Why?”

“He’s in love with you mo chroí.” Jasper stated so calmly.

I stared at Adam in disbelief. That couldn’t be right. I’ve never given him any reason to think that I was available or interested. Other than our kiss when we first met, nothing has ever happened between us. Adam spun on his heels and left the room. I watched him go with my heart breaking. Why didn’t he ever tell me?

“We all know it chere. The way he looks at you when he thinks no one is paying attention is the way we look at you. That man is completely devoted to you.” Jeremy spoke softly as I tried to process what he said.

“He’s loved you since he saw you walking through the halls at HQ. When we found out it was your crew we had to evacuate, he told all of us you were off limits. We weren’t supposed to even look at you.” My head snapped to Ben.

I could see his sad brown eyes looking at me with pity. He ran his hand through his brown hair and shrugged. How could I have never noticed all of this. Was I really that oblivious?

“Angel?” I heard Jason call out to me in a panic.

“I….I had no idea.” I turned to Jason and saw the reason for the panic.

“What is that?” Jake was trying to figure it out.

“That is a goblin. Why it is here is a mystery but we can find out. Let’s invite our new guest to meet everyone.” I sighed.

Phillip? I need you. I reached out to get help.

What’s happening poppet?

We have a goblin on the property. Think you and Daryl can catch him? I want him alive if possible. I pulled Daryl in as well.

Tell us where and I’ll bring him to you. Daryl sounded giddy.

I sent them the location through our link. They both cut the link after that. One problem down. My mind wouldn’t stop worrying about Adam. I sighed and pushed that problem away for now.

“Phillip and Daryl are picking up our new friend. I’ll talk to Adam myself once he calms down. Jason, I need you to find someone for me. My brother Aiden is off grid. If anyone can find him, it’s you. This is Alistair, another of my brothers, he can give you any information you need. Keep me updated. Jake, take Sara and go into town. Spend some time together and relax please.”
