Maddy looked up as the front door to the inn squealed and squeaked. Someone had just come in. She got to her feet from behind the desk in the office and went to greet whoever had arrived. She was expecting three guests this afternoon, but it wasn’t even close to check-in time yet. No one had contacted the inn to request an early check-in. Ben was supposed to be stopping by today sometime too. He really didn’t like giving a time for when he’d be by, as sometimes his job wasn’t predictable. She clipped her way out of the office, her heels making petite noises against the floor. She froze at the sight of two men in black suits, white shirts, and ties. They reached up and slid their sunglasses back as if they were one unit, and both of them looked at her. “Miss Lancaster?” one of them asked
