CHAPTER TEN
Druscilla was woken by Rose pulling back the curtains to let the warm sunshine into the room.
For a moment she could not think where she could be and then she saw the gilt canopy over her head and the white embroidered curtains on either side of the windows.
“Is it – morning?” she asked in astonishment.
“Indeed it is, my Lady, and I am certain sure you’ve had a good night’s sleep, which your Ladyship greatly needed.”
“How did I get to bed?” Druscilla asked. “I remember sitting downstairs in the salon on the sofa. I must have fallen asleep.”
“Dead to the world you were, my Lady. His Lordship carried you upstairs, I put you to bed, and you never even stirred.”
