Milo’s POV   The day before Kate’s birthday, Jason gets a job as a high school football assistant coach. At first, I'm happy for him. Jason might not be my favorite person, but he’s a part of our group, and his success is our success.  Soon after he gets the job, though, I start feeling very, very sorry for him. For some reason, over the past month, Jason and Kate have gotten somewhat close. They aren’t exactly friends, and I knew they aren’t romantic, but it’s clear that it has become easy for them to talk to each other. It makes sense, I suppose; if Brooke won’t open up to anyone besides me—something I can still hardly fathom—who does that leave them to talk to, besides each other?
