THE next day, I tried to avoid Rachel, but he sought me out as soon as our shift started. Thankfully, there were new customers who got seated in my area, so I had to leave before Rachel, and I had the chance to talk. It wasn’t busy in the morning, but I always had something to do, and so did Rachel, so we never really got to talk until after the lunch crowd had dissipated.
