Kevin's POV: Lizzy came to talk to me. I had no other choice than to tell her the truth. She wasn't going to leave me in peace. I have to admit that she is like me. Both of us are stubborn. At least she promised me that she wouldn't tell anyone. I trust her. The question is about what will happen now. I don't know if things between us are well. I told her the truth, but it didn't mean she would keep talking to me. It's not a lie that I will love it. I think that we can start from the beginning. Well, I won't force her. This is her decision. I'm glad that we managed to talk calmly. After all, there is no need for arguments. The problem is that she knows where I live. I won't stop her from coming home, but it might not be safe. I haven't told anyone my address. That's why I chose this neighborhood. It's crowded, and not many people will notice me. If someone wants to follow me, they will find a way to do it. I'm careful because I can't afford to make a mistake. I haven't told Nia that Lizzy came home. It's better if she doesn't know. My biggest problem is Lizzy. She might start asking questions. I can't tell her anything about my job. The sad truth is that she is like me. Both of us are curious and want to know everything. Sometimes, it won't be good for us. I hope that she will never get in trouble. It's the weekend. For the first time in months, I don't have to work. Our boss told us that his boss will be out of town. No one will make deliveries. He has some business to do. I can use the two days to do something for myself. It's not like I have plans. I can go out with the boys. Some of them might be busy. Well, I can always go to see Lizzy. I think this time, she will accept me. Finally, things are going in the right direction. I believe we can have peace. Currently, I'm in the kitchen. I plan to make breakfast. For some reason, I decided to make more food. It was done in half an hour. Today's menu will be sandwiches. I made four. There is no way that I will eat all of them. I left them to cool down and went to get dressed. It's not that cold. This means I can go out. I was about to sit down when I heard the front door. I know who this is. There is only one person who knows my address. I opened the door and let her in. - Good morning. - To you, too. How is your day so far? - Good. Does your mom know you are here? - No, why? - Because I think you can tell her when you visit. - If I do it, she will ask how we are on good terms. Then, I have to lie to her. - You can tell her that we sat and talked. It's not a lie. This is what we did. - For now, I won't talk with her about that. - I don't think it's a good idea to hide this from her. - Can we eat? I smell food. - Yes, we can. I made sandwiches. - Yummy. What can you cook? - Everything. - Really? Will you make me lunch? - I said I could cook everything. Not that I'm a good cook. - Where is the difference? - There is a big one. - Fine. Can we eat now? - Sure. Sit down. - Thank you. - Here you go. - It looks delicious. I might come here more often. - It's better if you don't do it. - Why? Don't you want me here? - I do, but you can't be around me for long. - Does something have to do with your job? - When everything is done, I will spend as much time as you want with you. - And when will this happen? - I don't know. - Maybe I can help you. - No, no, no. You will stay out of this. - But. - Lizzy, no! For once, listen to me. You and your mom are the only thing that has left me. - What about my grandparents? - They died a few years ago. - I'm sorry. Dad, I didn't want to hurt you. - she said with tears in her eyes - What? You called me. - Adam is right. I need to stop calling you Kevin. - I don't know who he is, but I'm glad he put some sense into you. - I said, chuckling - Can you forgive me? I know I don't deserve it, but I want it. - Hey, it's ok. You didn't do anything wrong. - Can I spend the day with you? - Sure, but what about your mom? - She can come with us. Lizzy and I ate our breakfast peacefully. I'm glad that she is in a good mood. Later, we walked out. I texted Nia to see if she had plans. I believe Lizzy wasn't going to do it. She agreed to come with us. Ben and Noah were invited as well, but they won't come. They will visit his grandpa. We met at the park. Lizzy saw a friend and went to him. - This is Adam. - Nia said - I heard his name, but I had no idea who he was. - The boy lives only with his mom. - I see. I know why they are friends. - I said, chuckling - Can I know how it happened? She didn't want to hear your name and look at her now. - My mistake led to something good. - She wanted to know what you meant. - Yes. - You two are the same. - I know. You don't need to remind me. - I will be glad if you take some responsibility now. You can't leave her. - I won't, but it won't be easy. I have many things to do. - Look. Your job means a lot, but you can't put her aside. - No one said that I would do it. - This is what it looks like to me. - I won't. I promise. - Say this to her, not to me. - Hey, can he stay with us? - Lizzy asked - Sure. Do you want us to go somewhere? - I asked - Let me see. No. We can go home. Your home. - Lizzy, I have told you something about that. - Please. - No. This can't happen. Not now. - Is there a problem? - Nia asked - No. Why don't we go for lunch? I'll pay for it. - Fine. I would like it if you have cooked something. - I'm sorry. - It's ok. All of us went to a restaurant. Most of the time, I was talking with Nia. At least Noah is good with that. If it had been someone else, they wouldn't like it if their wife had been seeing her ex. I don't have this problem. After lunch, Adam left us. Nia said she had to go grocery shopping. Only Lizzy and I left. She wanted to go home with me. I still think it's not a good idea, but I can't stop her. Who knows when this will happen again? I will use the chance. - Are you ok? - I asked - Yes. - Something is bothering you. - I feel bad for my mom. Why can't I tell her? - You know why. - Just because she knows the truth doesn't mean they will know you have a family. - In this business, you can't trust anyone. - But, dad. - Lizzy, don't insist. If you tell her, I should change my address and vanish away. I don't want to do this. - You don't have to do this. - Yes, I do. I can't put her in danger. - You won't. - Let's not argue about this. What do you want us to do? - Can we watch something together? Noah is great, but he is not like you. - I'll let you choose the movie. Snacks? - We had lunch. I'm not hungry. - Ok, then. - Can we watch this? - Yes, sure. - Have you watched it before? It's not a new movie. - No, I don't have time for this. - What about the weekend? - I rarely have it for myself. I work all week. - What? You don't have breaks. - No, I don't. I have to work. A lot. - But this is not fair. You need a rest. Can't you tell your boss about this? - I have no idea who he is. - What? How you don't know him? - No one knows him. - Why? - I have no idea. I've been trying to find him for years. - Hold on. I was talking about your boss in the police. - He is not my boss now. While I'm on the mission, I have another boss. - I see. We dropped it and continued with the movie. After some time, she fell asleep with her head on my shoulder. I wanted this for years, and now I have it. It's like a dream come true. I would love to spend more time with her, but I don't think it's safe. If something happens to her, I will never forgive myself. I wanted to call Nia to come and pick her up, but I gave up. She can't know where I live. It's better for her. When she woke up, I took her home. I wanted to leave, but Noah didn't let me. I don't know why we are such good friends, but I like it. - It's better with friends, right? - Noah asked - Yes, it is. Thank you. - Lizzy, is everything ok? You are quiet. - Nia said - Yes. I have nothing to say. - Are you sure? - Yes. - What did you two do today? She looks tired. - Noah said, chuckling - Nothing. We watched a movie. She is still sleepy. - I bet you were in paradise. - I was, true. - I said, and Lizzy left - Kevin, what happened? - Nia asked - Nothing. She seems upset for the past few days. - Did you tell her something? - No, I swear. It's not because of me. I will go. - Ok. - Lizzy, are you ok? - Yes, I'm fine. - No, you're not. You can tell me if something is bothering you. - I'm sorry. I didn't want to do it. I was mad at you. - Hey, you didn't do anything. - I didn't want you to leave me. - I will never do it. I know why you think this way, but I promise. It won't happen again. - Can I trust you? - Yes, you can. I will never give up on you. - Thanks. It's good to hear it. - You can always talk to me. I will listen. - Can you give me your phone number? I deleted it. - Sure. Here you go. This time, you should keep it. - Don't worry. I won't delete it. - Why don't we go inside? We can have a dessert. - I want to stay here for some time. Will you stay with me? - Of course. I won't leave you. Lizzy and I stayed in the backyard for some time. I convinced her to go inside. I wanted to try Nia's dessert. She knows how to cook. I'm sure Lizzy has learned something from her. She wants to come home more often, but I can't let her do it. There must be a way I can be close to her without putting her life at risk. The worst thing is that I can't talk with anyone about this. My parents are gone. Also, I never told them about my job. I was sure they wouldn't like it. That's why I kept this information for myself. It's not like this is helping me. I hope that Lizzy won't get in trouble because of me.
