I watched as Ladon got up on the railing, looking toward the horizon, hoping to catch the first glimpse of home. Now that he knew we weren’t going back to The Golden City, he suddenly seemed very eager to return, practically jumping up and down with happiness, which made me concerned since he stood so close to the edge.
It was strange how I was suddenly becoming so overprotective. I had never spent much time with the young prince before now. Every night, he had a new nightmare, and every night I had to stay with him to reassure him that everything was okay. It left me with little room to spend any alone time with Mefan, but I was glad to see he didn’t go to the captain instead.
We hadn’t had much time to talk, but all this watching over Ladon gave me plenty of time to think. I
