Marcy led them along a back street, turning down a winding pathway that emerged into a courtyard, where several decrepit doors marked the dwellings of poor folk. She went to one of these, knocking before entering the structure.
Inside, the building wasn"t much better than the door, what with the filthy, peeling wattle-and-daub walls. Several small rooms branched off the entranceway, but Marcy continued, passing through the far door into a narrow alleyway where Brother Mateo waited.
