They were led into a large chamber where the adjudicators sat at a table set up at the far end. The rest of the room was lined with chairs for those wishing to witness the tribunal. Today, the place was packed, forcing many to stand.
Their guards paused at the door, waiting for the arrival of the prisoners to be acknowledged. Sister Lara stood by, watching people take their seats.
"I forgive you," whispered Charlaine.
Sister Lara stared back, a look of shock on her face. "For what?" she replied.
"I know you only did the bidding of Commander Hjordis."
"She is a rising star within the Church. She may even make grand mistress one day."
"Be careful," warned Charlaine. "Those whose light shines brightest often burn anyone who"s close by."
