TAMERANE WAS BEING WATCHED. She knew that of course, but until now, she had assumed that the watchers were paid by General Pakori who worked for Prince Denori. Now she understood that they were paid by her father instead.
Her father thought that he knew what went on in his own house, but he didn’t know about Zeiro in the shed. Zeiro, who had been out in the town at her request, looking for ways in which the two of them could make their way back to the City of Glass, and who had, when she ducked into the back yard to visit the outhouse, let her know that he had news.
So she returned to the yard after dinner and went to the shed.
