Chapter 7Iola slipped out of bed very quietly so as not to disturb Lucy.
She realised by the golden light coming from between the curtains that it was very late in the morning and surprisingly after all that had happened she had slept well, although she had found it hard to go to sleep.
This was because her heart was thumping and she was aware of strange sensations that she had never known before but, although she tried to pretend otherwise, it was easy to put a name to them.
After Sir Wolfe had held Lucy on his knee for a few minutes he had said,
“You must go to bed, my dearest, and I must send for the Police.”
