True to the driver’s words, the chief steward told me the same thing as soon as I stepped into the house.
“Your brothers are already there,” He explained. “It is of utmost importance that you make your way there instantly.”
I nodded, taking off my backpack and setting it aside. The walk down to the ceremonial room felt longer than it probably should have.
I stopped for a while at the door, taking in a deep breath for what I knew I’d have to face. Sure enough, my brothers were already in the room, both occupying different places at the table.
Elijah’s withering glare was focused on me the instant I walked in. My father’s eyes landed on me like that of a predator.
“You’ve finally showed up.” He noted. “Take a seat.”
Quietly, I took my seat at the table, noting the other faces at
