Dear Scarlet,
I received your message in the barn last night. I just don't know what it means. Was it meant for me? Or were you reaching out to the teenagers—to Jason and Ivan and Claire? Are you reaching out to anyone who will listen? Are you reaching out to anyone who can hear you?
The message the teens received through their ghost-hunting device said “Scarlet.” I assume that's you, but I can only make assumptions. What do I know? Nothing. I can't even get my best friend to talk to me, or my ex, or even my own parents.
It's been nice meeting Jason and Claire, and Ivan too—he's quiet, but he seems like a good kid.
Is it weird that I'm a full-grown adult and I'm hanging out with minors? That is weird, isn't it? Should I stop? Or can I be a mentor to them? I
