-Lauren-
I wasn’t sure if I should divulge my past to Logan. I couldn’t predict how he’d view me afterwards, but something about him compelled me to be truthful. I felt an urge to confide in him, to trust him with more about myself. Besides, shouldn’t I reveal who I was now so he could decide if he wanted to be with me?
Despite being part of the same world, we hardly knew anything about each other. Our paths rarely crossed until now, and we had no reason to interact until this moment. There was so much we needed to learn about each other, and if we were to determine if we could be mates, honesty was essential.
“You’re kind of my second chance too,” I confessed.
“What?” he asked.
“Before I even turned eighteen, I met someone. Someone I fell madly in love with, but my family couldn’t accept him because of his lack of status. You see, he was a lone wolf,” I revealed.
“You fell in love with a lone wolf?”
I nodded.
“And we were certain we were mates, but we never really got a chance to be with each other,” I explained. “My family kept me from him and then sent me to Connor. My children never knew about him—the lone wolf. I know I should be honest now, though. There’s no more reason to hide it, but... you see, after I was forced to break my own heart and betray Tobias, I had no more reason to fight. So, I let Connor rule me. I was just done.”
“I see…” he whispered.
“I want you to know this because if we’re going to figure out if we can work as mates, I think we should be honest about our pasts, don’t you?” I inquired.
Logan nodded.
“Does… Does this change your view of me?” I asked.
“Yes.”
“Oh…”
“But not in a bad way,” he said. “I just never thought status meant so little to you.”
That made me smile a little.
“I really couldn’t care less,” I told him.
“But you do want us to try to give it a chance?” he questioned.
I nodded.
“I think we should,” I said. “I’m scared too, though. I had never thought this would happen to me again.”
“Me neither,” he said, smiling.
Suddenly, the door opened, and the cat pushed away from Logan. As Angela entered, it saw its opportunity to leave the room.
“I got your water, Mom,” she said and stepped in. “I hope it’s okay that I’m interrupting.”
She walked over to me and handed me the glass.
“It’s fine, we were just finishing up here,” I replied.
“Yes, I should leave you two to spend some time together,” Logan said, smiling at me. “I'll come check on you soon.”
I nodded as Logan swiftly exited the room, my heart racing a little faster. Goddess, it had been so long since a man made me feel nervous and a little crazy. It was a good feeling, though.
“So, Logan?” Angela said.
“What?” I turned to my daughter, puzzled.
“You’ve been staring at the door for quite a while now,” she observed, smiling.
“Oh, well…”
“You know, I wouldn’t mind if you wanted to find someone to spend your life with, right?” she asked.
Taking a sip of water, I turned back to her.
“Do you mean that?” I asked.
Angela nodded, her smile unwavering.
“For a long time, you've deserved to find someone you truly love,” she assured me.
I squeezed my daughter’s hand, and we exchanged smiles.
“I’m glad to hear it because... Logan and I are mates.”
Angela froze, staring at me in disbelief. But I was committed to being more honest from now on. I believed it would benefit me and everyone else.
“What?”
“Yeah, I found out when I woke up,” I informed her.
Angela glanced in the direction Logan had disappeared, and I could understand if she thought it was too soon for me to consider finding someone else. It might be too soon for both of us. But then she looked back at me, sat down, and started to smile.
“True mates?” she asked.
I nodded. “Seems that way.”
“Oh, Mom!” she exclaimed happily, hugging me tightly. I nearly spilled my water but managed to set it down before it could spill everywhere. “This is amazing!”
She pulled back, her expression brimming with excitement.
“It is,” I agreed.
She nodded.
“I know what it means to have a true mate… or mates. Chris knew it too, and we always hated that you didn’t get to experience the same thing,” she said.
“Oh well, that’s not—"
“But how do you feel about it?” she asked, interrupting me before I could delve into my past.
Another time, I thought.
“I’m… a bit shaken up,” I admitted.
“Yeah, I can imagine, but do you want to give it a chance?” she queried.
“I believe we both do.”
“Mom! I’m so happy for you!” she exclaimed.
“Let’s not get carried away. Right now, I can barely even walk up the stairs,” I cautioned. “We will figure it out slowly.”
“But this is so great!” she insisted. “Of course, you should take all the time you need, but I am happy for you.”
“That makes me very happy to hear,” I expressed.
“Does Lara know?”
I shook my head.
“No, and I think Logan wants to tell his own kids, so let’s keep it between us for now,” I mentioned.
Angela nodded, her happiness evident, and it made me smile. I was glad she was so happy for me and didn’t mind me moving on, but of course, she knew her father and I were never happy together.
I could never let go of the anger, and he was also angry that his own mate had not wanted him. While he never truly hurt me with his hands, he did cause me a lot of pain.
But in a way, I believed I might have caused him a lot of pain too. Being stuck with me was not really what he had seen happening in his life either.
“We have a lot to figure out, though,” Angela mentioned.
“What do you mean? I don’t remember you finding a new mate,” I noted.
That made my daughter laugh, and she shook her head.
“I mean, there is more we need to figure out besides you and Logan,” she articulated. “You do know Dad’s pack will need someone, right? And at the moment, the next in line is you.”
“I was never a good luna,” I acknowledged. “The pack is yours.”
Angela shook her head.
“I live in England, and I don’t think they will want to come,” she said.
“Your dad moved them up to Canada for a while,” I recalled.
“Yes, but now you’re here and home again. Mom, I really think you should consider it,” she suggested.
I looked at my daughter for a long time. The idea of actually being luna and ruling a pack had never occurred to me, and now that I had the decision to make, I was not sure what to choose.
