KRISTA WAS TORN FROM slumber, her eyes wide and searching in the blackness around her. She listened, straining her ears to detect any sound. All was quiet.
She burrowed back down under the covers and started to drift off once more when she heard it again. Like the static noise a television emits when it signs off for the night. Electricity seemed to crackle in the air around her, making the hairs on her arms and the back of her neck prickle. What was it? She stayed very still. An electrical storm?
A soft pulsing light in a pale green color forced her to turn in the direction it was coming from. Her eyes immediately landed on a glowing shape by the closed bedroom door that gained in solidity as the seconds passed.
