Chapter Twenty-Nine
When I woke up this morning I felt different. I don’t know why I felt different because nothing was different, besides the number of my age. Instead of a one and a seven, it’s now a one and an eight. Today is my eighteenth birthday and I don’t feel anything. Maybe because of the fact that I know that I have to pretend in front of my family the whole evening, I do not look forward to that. I wish I could just tell them and show them the new me, but because of my father, I just can’t.
When I come down to the dining room everyone is there. Mortimer, Carl Sophia, Sophia, Edward, and the Walter family. The biggest and loveliest birthday breakfast is placed on the table. Everyone is looking at me with big smiles.
“Happy birthday Katherine!” They all shout at the same time.
