Chapter Twenty-Six
The beating heart in my chest has stopped. The blood flow in my body no longer circulates. I feel like everyone in the room has disappeared and I have gone to heaven. I feel like I’m dead. I have never had this out-of-body feeling before. But that’s exactly what I’m feeling right now.
I stare at Rich where he stands in the doorway to the living room. He looks a little banged up but okay to have been in a plane crash. I see how his family rushes up to him, but I’m frozen to the couch. I can’t move and I can’t get a word out of my mouth. I don’t know how to react at all. I feel so stupid.
Mrs. Walter hugs Rich tightly while crying.
“My son, I thought we were never going to see you again”, she cries. “How are you alive?”
