Quinn’s POV
“Gone so long,” Julia coos for the third time since we brought her back to the house. “Sad.”
We’re in her room. She switched to a toddler bed about six months ago, and has been surprisingly good about sleeping there alone instead of crawling into our room and insisting on sleeping with us. She’s as brave as she is smart.
“We’re sorry we were gone so long today, sweetheart,” Dean tells Julia, mussing her hair in that way he does that always makes me smile. “Mommy and Daddy had a new friend visit the compound, and we had to make sure he was safe.”
“Safe,” Julia repeats, squinting in concentration as she tries to remember what the word means. “Are we safe?”
