Chapter 5The following afternoon—because Ilberd and Petyr’s father had agreed to let them leave early to take advantage of the daylight, and Merek had snuck away from the blacksmith’s shop—the three apprentices were in the training room in Renard’s home where he could determine their fighting skills.
“No, no, no. This way.” Renard demonstrated, again, how to swing a short sword to do the most damage.
Petyr sighed and tried…again…and this time managed to get past Renard’s defenses. Niall, watching, had the feeling Renard let him in an attempt to bolster his confidence.
Merek hadn’t had any problems, but then, as he’d told them, the blacksmith had insisted he learn how to use a sword as a corollary to creating them.
