Chapter 18
Anna’s POV
When I heard Darius had left, I kind of got scared and stayed in my room. Even though I should somehow force myself to sleep, I don’t know if that would be a good idea. What if the man who kidnapped me and hurt me comes? I don’t want to be sleeping because then he will get to me. I try to stay awake, but I know my body is dying for some sleep. A light knock at my door startled me.
“Anna, it's Daniel. May I come in?”
“Yes,” I said to stay on the bed.
“Hey.” He said as he came into the room. “Since you didn’t come down for anything to eat, I brought you some food. You need to eat something some that your injuries heal.”
“I know I didn’t think I should come down.” I sighed. “When Darius left, I felt like I wasn’t protected. I know he has to do things, and he can't be here.”
“I am protecting you, and I have the best guards around here; you don’t have to worry. You need to get some rest, your eyes tell me you haven’t slept much.”
“I didn’t get to sleep last night, but it's my fault. My mind wouldn’t shut down, and then the sun came up.” I said with a yawn. “I am thinking about taking a nap now. I know that will help, and it will help knowing Darius is back when I wake up.”
“He is on his way now. First, you should eat and then take a nap. We have a little party planned tonight, and lots of people are going to be around. Darius wants you to come downstairs and meet a few people so you know who is protecting you.” He smiled. “That is, if you are up for it, you don’t have to, but I know it will make Darius happy if you come.”
I don’t know what to say. Part of me wants to come and meet everyone, but what if I don’t plan to stay after this? I don’t want anyone getting to know me, and then me leaving and not looking back.
“I don’t know if it's wise for me to come.” I sighed. “I mean, if Darius wants me to come, I guess I can, but I don’t want to get friendly with anyone. I don’t know if I plan to stay after he catches the guy that did this.”
“You don’t have to worry about people hating you because you want to leave. You can be friendly with people and still leave. I think it's going to be great for you to come out and see how we do things here; hell, you might even like it enough to want to stay. I hope you are considering staying, Anna. You being here has been a good thing for Darius and me, I promise.”
I didn’t know what to say, it was nice to hear that they like me being here. But what if I do something wrong? I don’t want to piss anyone off because I don’t belong here. I know this place has a lot of people here, but I just don’t know if they are going to like me enough to want to be around me like that.
“I will think about it, maybe after my nap, things will be different, and I won't be so worried about everything.” I sighed. “Thank you for being nice to me. I know you don’t have to be, but I am glad you are nice.”
“We’re all going to be nice to you, Anna, I promise, and if someone steps out of line, I promise you they are going to be punished for it, and you will get to see that we’re not going to let anyone hurt you again.” He said, getting to his feet. “Please eat before you pass out. I can tell your body wants to sleep, and I am sure your mind will sleep too.” He smiled. “Rest well, Luna.” He said before leaving me there.
I managed to eat some of the food before I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I know I have to trust Daniel to protect me, but I also know if things don’t go the way they want them to, then this guy is going to get me again, and who knows what he will do to me this time. I thought I was going to die when he held me prisoner, and if Darius hadn’t found me when he did, I would have died. I still don’t know how he found me, but I am glad he did.
Opening my eyes, it's not as bright as it was when I fell asleep, and my tray of food was gone, so someone came into my room and took it. I rubbed my eyes. I wonder if Darius is back and about this party. I wanted to talk to him about it. I don’t want to go, I don’t want to have to pretend I am not in pain, even though it seemed like the pain was getting better, I am still in a lot of pain.
I slowly get myself up and open the door; the house is a little louder. It was kind of nice hearing the people downstairs. I am hesitant to go down, but I manage to make it down before Daniel appears.
“You look rested.” He said, smiling. “Come, it's almost dinner time, Darius wants you to sit at our table, don’t worry, you don’t have to talk if you don’t want to, but you can get to know me. I am a dork most of the time.”
“Daniel, give her a minute,” Darius said, coming towards me. “I am glad you got some rest; you were up all night, and it worried me.”
“Sorry, my mind just wouldn’t let me sleep, but I did sleep. About this party, I don’t want to come. I know you want me to come out and be around everyone, but I have some pain issues.”
“You don’t have to come, but I want you to. I will summon the doctor so he can give you some medicine to help with the pain. I wish there was more I could do to help with it, but I can only give him permission to treat you.”
“Thank you.” I smiled.
I can tell he is disappointed, but I don’t want to feel like I have to be out here because everyone wants to talk to me. Even though I do miss having a good conversation with someone, I don’t know if anyone around here would like it to.
“Come,” Darius said, bringing me out of my thoughts. “The doctor is coming, and dinner is being served. Don’t worry, you won't have to talk at all if you don’t want to. Even though I would love to get to know you more, I know you will open up when you are ready.”
“Alright,” I said, following him, and Daniel followed behind me.
I felt like they weren’t telling me everything. Maybe they know where this guy is, and maybe he will show up tonight to try and crash the party. I don’t want to be part of that, even though I would love to see him tortured. I don’t know if I have a stomach for that.
“Here,” Darius said, pulling out a chair. “This is your spot.” He smiled. “Daniel is there, and I am here.” He said, pointing to a chair at the end. “I have some warriors that sit with us because we usually talk about plans we have for the lands, or if there are rogues.”
“Rogues?”
“Yes, werewolves that don’t have packs usually give packs issues and try and kill members of those packs. We deal with them a lot since the man who took you has a pack somewhere around here.” He sighed. “That is why I was hoping you would come to the party; he might come out if he sees you.”
“So you want to use me as bait?” I asked, kind of pissed off, but I didn’t let him see me like that. “I mean, I don’t mind, but I don’t know if it's going to help. What if he gets to me? What if he kills me this time?”
“He won't be able to get to you. I have some friends coming that will be around you, and Daniel and I won't let you side, so you don’t have to worry. I am not even sure he will show himself tonight, but if he does, then it's going to be a lot easier to get to him. I have my best warriors preparing for his arrival. Let's hope he shows himself.”
“What if he doesn’t? I mean, are you going to expect me to do some crazy things to try and bring him out, because I don’t know if I can handle that? I can barely move.” I said as the doctor came into the dining area, as well as our food.
“Luna.” The doctor said, bowing slightly for some reason. “Alpha Darius said you are in pain?”
