Chapter 11

Even though his being in my room is comforting, I still don’t believe what I saw outside. There is no way a man can shift into a wolf. I know staying here is going to be dangerous, what else is he going to show me that isnt real?

I tried to go back to sleep but it was impossible, I forced myself up and to the window. The moon is high and I hear a couple of howls, that's comforting. I look at the door hoping he would be standing there, but I am alone in my room.

Part of me wants to go to his office and talk to him about this, but I know he could be lying about all of this. Maybe they are witches and are going to use magic to force me to stay here. I hope not, I hope he keeps his word and when everything is calmed down I can leave. I don’t want to be a wolf, I don’t want to believe I would be a wolf.

Forcing myself to the door, even if he wants to lie about things at least I can figure things out. There is something familiar about this place, I don’t know why but I feel like I do belong here the longer I am here. I slowly turn the doorknob and the hallway is empty, the house is lit enough so at least I can see where I am going.

I remember his office is down the hallway, so I follow the hallway down and the door is slightly open. I close my eyes and touch the door before I push it slowly open, he is by the window when I walk in, he doesn’t know I am there.

When he turned around I kind of startled him. “Oh,” he said shaking his head. “My wolf said you were here, but I was dealing with an issue.” he half smiled but didn’t move. “Did you want me to get you some coffee?”

“No.” I smiled. “You said you were going to be up, and with being here I feel out of place but then again I feel like I belong here. I can't sleep and you can't either.” I said taking a step more into the room. “I can go if you want me to.”

“No,” he said shaking his head. “Stay, I could use the company besides you’re right I cannot sleep. I have this conference coming up and I don’t know what I am going to do. Part of me wants to leave it alone and stay here, but I know it's important.”

“Well if it's important then I think you should go,” I said walking closer to the desk. “I know you are worried about something here, but you people seem to have it covered for you.”

“I do they aren't the ones I am worried about.” he sighed. “I know you want to go back to your apartment in the city, and it's not safe so I am worried you are going to leave while I am gone.”

“Well, I did say that I would stay here for a while, my life in the city wasn't much. My job wasn't much so I don’t need it.” I sighed. “I don’t know what kind of magic you are using here to make me want to stay, you don’t have to make me stay I will stay.”

“Good,” he said coming closer, he was a lot scarier being this close but that's because I don’t know him. I don’t know what he wants out of this. “Can I touch your face?”

“Okay.” That was all I managed to say before his hand cupped my chin, instantly I felt calm having him there. “I like your touch.” I managed to say when the door opened and I took a step back away from him.

“Beta,” he said annoyed.

“Sorry Alpha,” he said looking at me and then him. “Ohh,” he said shaking his head. “You wanted to know more about something, and I found the information.”

“I said you could bring it in the morning, shouldn’t you be sleeping?” he growled.

“I couldn’t sleep, and neither one of you.”

“Good night Alpha.” I managed to say before rushing out of there. I don’t know what the hell that was, but Darius doesn’t look too happy that Daniel came in.

I wandered down to the kitchen, and even though I didn’t know where anything was, it seemed familiar too. I find the coffee and the sugar and milk and I find the cups without much effort.

“You know your way around here,” Daniel said coming into view.

“I uh, my kitchen is kind of like this, and it's not hard to guess where you have stuff,” I said rolling my eyes.

“Where would you put the flour?” he mused.

“Here,” I said, opening the cabinet, and there was the flour, which was weird, okay. I opened another cabinet, and there I would store the storage bowls. “Weird.”

He chuckled. “Sorry about interrupting you and Darius.”

“You didn’t interrupt us, he wanted to touch my face since I called him scary.”

“Well you were going to kiss him.” he chuckled. “You sure it wasn't you wanting to comfort him?”

I hear a growl and Darius is there. “Good night Beta,” he warned.

“Fine, we’ll talk tomorrow, night Luna, er Anna,” he said bowing his head and then rushing out of there.

“Sorry for him,” he said coming around the corner. “But he was right, you wanted to kiss me.” he mused. “Wanna still kiss me?” he said slowly moving his hand around my waist. “Because I want to kiss you,” he said leaning in.

I couldn’t help myself, I needed to taste his lips. When our lips connected, I felt he was the one I needed and wanted. I know rushing into a relationship isnt a good thing, but he felt right. When he deepened the kiss, I felt I could let myself go but he pulled back.

“Wow.” he mused. “Amazing. Now I’ll be able to sleep,” he said as the coffee finished.

I giggled.

I watched him as his eyes kept changing from glossy to normal, I couldn't help but ask. “Why are your eyes changing.”

“Well my wolf is here, he wants to come out but I told him you aren't ready for that. And I am linking warriors to ensure the pack lands are safe for us, since tomorrow I have to leave and you will be here with my Beta Daniel and the pack, don’t worry you are going to be safe.”

“I know, for some reason, I feel like this place is safe.”

“Daniel said you know where everything is in this kitchen,” he said looking around. “My Mate designed this kitchen,” he said looking back at me. “You remind me of her so much.”

“I am sorry you lost your wife.” I frowned. “I know I shouldn’t have kissed you, you are still healing from it.”

“Healed completely actually.” he smiled. “I am just admiring how strong and beautiful you are. You are just like her, if not better.”

I didn’t say anything, I don’t know how he sees me like that. I am not strong and not beautiful but I am not going to argue that. “I am thankful you saved me again.”

“Again, are you remembering the accident?”

“Well, your touch.” I sighed. “I remember the same feeling when you touched me as we kissed, it was the same one.”

“You were my mate then?” he said out loud. “Impossible.”

“What?” I asked confused.

“Nothing,” he said shaking his head. “My mate died a few hours before your accident, we were chasing the rogue king and his minions when your accident happened,” he said looking at me. “We didn’t think you were alive, but you were barely.”

I didn’t want to remember the accident, but I was told I was lucky someone was that far into the woods to find me. “I went for a drive.” I sighed. “I knew it was a bad idea, but I broke up with my ex he was cheating on me and I found them in the bed together,” I said looking away from him. “I think that was more painful than the accident was. My best friend was the one he was cheating on me with, so my life in the city could die off and I wouldn't care.”

“Stay here with me,” he said touching my hand. “We’ll take things slow and if you still feel the need to go into the city and live then I’ll understand that.”

“Maybe, I am tired now,” I said with a yawn. “Good night Darius.”

“Good night Anna,” he said before I was too far away from him.

I wanted to go back and kiss him goodnight but I forced myself away from him. As much as all of this feels right, I still feel like something else is going on and he doesn’t want me leaving here because of it, either way, I am going to do this day by day and see what happens, I hope nothing happens.
