Morgan went through the living room and into the kitchen. Miriam was there. “Good morning,” she said brightly. “Did you sleep all right?”
Morgan wasn’t sure how to answer. He’d slept okay, but his encounter with an inebriated James, whether as part of a dream or reality, had left him feeling uneasy. Finally he just nodded and said, “Okay.”
“What would you like for breakfast?” Miriam asked. “I can do some eggs and sausage, or we have cereal, and there’s fruit.”
“Just coffee and orange juice, if you have it. I’m not much of a breakfast person.”
“Comin’ right up,” Miriam said. She filled a cup with steaming hot coffee and poured a glass of orange juice. She set these on the table, along with a pitcher of cream and a bowl of sugar. Morgan came and sat down.
“What time did James get home?”
