I felt the moment my heart stopped beating when I saw the twins rush out the front door and onto the porch steps. Danielle held her brother's hand and they both had serious expressions on their faces. Seeing them standing there together, hand in hand, they looked much older than their mere six years.
"Dani! Dante! Stop!" I shouted at them. But my warning fell on deaf ears as I watched my godchildren walk down the few stairs onto the dirt floor of the yard.
