(MARILYN’S POV)
Stepping over the threshold of the mansion, I was welcomed by a wave of cool air heavy with the scent of woodsmoke and something floral as well as expensive. The grand foyer soared above, sunlight filtering through stained glass panels that cast a kaleidoscope of colors across the polished mahogany floor.
Everything gleamed - the ornately carved banister, the crystal chandelier that sparkled like a fallen star casting a dim shadow on the distant staircase that curved upwards. There were family pictures everywhere too. A woman who looked very much like Lilliana only older was in them, I assumed to be her mother.
