I glanced at my father-in-law as he drove. His grip on the steering wheel was tight, and I could see his jaw clenching. I had no idea why he looked upset. There was nothing I did that should have made him angry. I bit my lip, reached for his hand, and gave it a gentle squeeze. Leaning closer, I kissed his cheek. He let out a deep sigh, and I noticed his anger seemed to ease a bit. He glanced at me briefly and brought my hand to his lips for a kiss.
“Why are you upset? Did I do something wrong?” I asked, and he shook his head.
“No, I’m not mad at you, baby. I’m just frustrated. That man who came up to you earlier, turns out he’s your boss.” I nodded. “What did he want?”
“He just asked why I hadn’t gone home yet. I told him I was waiting for you. There was nothing inappropriate, Daddy. He
