Salamat doon sa matandang lalaki na umawat kay Nuru. Nagawa ko pang makapag-dinner matapos umeksena ng a anak niyang iyon. I want to count it as his nice point, pero kung mabait talaga siya. Hindi niya dapat tinu-tolerate ang ginagawang pangingidnap ng anak niya, but who knows. Puwede naman na sinubukan niya nang pigilan. Sadyang hindi lang siya pinakikingan nito.
I clenched my stomach. It growls again. I'm still hungry. I wanted to eat more but when the old man walks out of the dining room the moment he finished his wine like everyone else. I couldn't push myself to stay on the table and continue to eat my dinner. The rest of the abscond at the dinner table will gossips about me.
I walk back inside of my room from the terrace where I have been staying for more than half an hour now, admiring the velvety darkness of the sky, making the moon and the stars around it to shine brighter.
Kung dala ko lang sana ang cellphone ko. Puwede akong umorder ng pagkain. Mapakla akong napangiti. I am not even sure kung may ganoon ba rito o kung may cellphone at wifi ba rito o kahit na anong klaseng form ng internet.
I am ready to forget about it. I lay on my bed and covered my body with the thick comforter. The bed that I am on is spacious and soft. It gives the same level of comfort as my bed back in my own room back at my house, even better actually, but, no matter how hard I tried to make myself familiar and comfortable with this bed. I can't fall asleep. I rolled and rolled over and over again until I fell on the floor. The loud thud cause by my fall made me stilled on my spot. My eyes jumps on the closed door of my quarter. I'm a little bit scared that someone might suddenly barge in and saw me in this position.
Thank God, no one came.
I sat on the floor. I pulled my legs closer to my upper body and rested my head on top of my knees.
I can't sleep and I am so hungry. I can't deal with the both of this at the same time. It's either I fall asleep or I do something about my hunger.
Finding something to eat in the kitchen is easier than forcing myself to eat. I stand up from the floor. I wrap my body with a black robe and left my room as quiet as I can.
Sneaking out like this to find myself something to eat won't get me killed, right? Fingers crossed for it not to happen. Wala naman akong gagawing masama. Gusto ko lang kumain. I won't even try to escape. Hindi ko alam kung ano ba ang ang makikita ko sa labas. Mas safe yata ako rito kesa magtangka pang tumakas. Kapag ginawa ko iyon. Alam ko naman na mahahanap pa rin nila ako.
The chandeliers that are scattered and hanging all over the castle-like house are still on as well as the dimlights all over the high ceilling. I think they never turn off this lights, which is a good thing.
Like my expectation. I found no one in the kitchen except for the bunch of refrigerators. My eyes walks the area. I unconsciously starts counting their refrigerator. There's eight of them in total but I have this feeling that this is not the only refrigerator that the pack house has.
I have never been this thrilled in my entire life to sneakily check on someone else's refrigerator in the middle of the night.
The first ref are filled with beer, juices, milk and other sorts of drinks and refreshment. My hand reached for a strawberry flavored juice, it is in the brand that I like the most which made my heart triumphant and joyous.
May kutob na ako na ang sense of hearing ng mga nilalang na ito ay matalas. I tried my very best to close the door as silent as I could. If not, I am sure that someone will come up here and check what all of these sounds are about.
I struck in the straw on the box and starts sipping on my strawberry juice like a happy kid. While I am having the time of my life with my refreshment. I randomly got chills. The hair on my body rose up as I felt a familiar domineering presence behind me. I stopped sipping on my juice, my lips slowly let go of the straw.
F*ck!
Why is he still awake? It's almost two in the dawn, it's late-late. He should be sleeping right now, shouldn't he?
I didn't want to turn around and see his face but it's better to do it on my own accord rather than having him told me to do it.
I smiled shyly as I hide the small box of strawberry juice behind my back.
"W-Why are you here?"
"Why are you still wearing that dress? Didn't I make myself clear earlier that I want it off you?" he scorned at me. I look down on myself. I don't know why I did it when I do know that I am still wearing that dress that caused his outburst earlier, maybe, I just wanted to make sure that I am actually still wearing it.
He walks passed me to get himself a beer on the same refrigerator where I got the strawberry juice.
Nuru opened the bottled with the use of his perfect white teeth. It is so effortless for him to do it, I guess he is used to it. He's probably on it ever since he starts drinking.
When I saw his eyes laid on the box of strawberry juice that I am hiding on my back. I am left with no choice but to reveal it to him.
"I got thirsty so I am having this. This is my first box. I promise this is the only thing that I took-"
"Will that make you full, though?" I stared at him like a fool, "Hindi bale na. Gigisingin ko ang chef para ipagluto ka."
