Marco had long accepted the truth—his love story with his wife didn’t end the way fairy tales promised. No magical ending, no growing old together. Just an ending he had to live with, for the sake of his daughter.

He told himself he wasn’t ready to love again. Not unless he could find her—the perfect woman. Someone who could be the perfect wife and the perfect mother to his little girl. A flawless match in every way. He made a silent vow: he would only give his heart away if she existed.

Then Ava Santillan walked back into his life.

She had been hopelessly in love with him since they were young—too young to understand what love could cost. And now, she’s not the same girl he once knew. She’s stronger, bolder… and she carries a fire that burns straight through the walls he’s built.

Suddenly, Marco’s carefully crafted idea of “perfection” begins to crumble. What if his heart chooses her, flaws and all? What if she is everything he needs, but nothing he expected?

Will Marco risk everything to follow his heart into the arms of a woman who isn’t perfect by his standards?

Or will he let her go and continue searching for an illusion… even if it means losing the only love that feels real?

BOOK 1 - Kabanata 1 (Sad Prince)
"Done, Daddy!" masigla niyang tugon. Sinalubong niya ako ng yakap at halik. "Very good!" I complimented. Lovie was a sweet and lovable kid. Besides, if we really think about it, she was Mutya’s daughter—or supposed to be Maria when we got married. Ang mahalaga, ayos na kami ngayon. We are all happy and contented. Masaya na rin sina Rhem at ang bagong Maria; in fact, they’re now waiting for their own baby boy to come. Ako, I already have Lovanah. She’s enough for me. I knew it! My daughter is so sweet, so innocent. "Alright. Go, hop into your bed." "And now, let’s pray first..." "Papa Jesus, thank you for this wonderful night. Thank you for Daddy, Tita-Mommy, Tito-Dada, and Nanay Esther," she recited. She unfailingly said this prayer every night. She appreciates small things, and I’m so lucky God gave me such a wonderful and sweet daughter. "And also, thank you po for my future and new mommy. Amen!" New Mommy? Where did she get that? But how? The Maria I met before was the ideal woman for me—perfect in all her imperfections. And if I will get married again, I want to choose the best, and let’s say, the perfect woman—a perfect mother and perfect housewife. Hindi iyon para sa akin. Para iyon sa anak ko. Gusto ko siyang maging masaya. Pasimple kong pinahid ang luhang pumatak. I was really emotional pagdating kay Lovie. She must not see me crying. No one must see me crying. I am fine. Am I? I shook my head at the thought. Okay ako. Okay na okay ako... "The Sad Prince..." iyon ang titulo ng libro. "There was a girl who had been wandering along the dusty road for many years... Her dress was as yellow as the sun and was embroidered around the hem with cuffs in cherry-red flowers. Long and burnished was her brown hair, twined and tangled through a small red dress..." Lovie suddenly sat up and looked at me. Napatigil ako sa pagbabasa para tingnan siya. "Daddy, the girl is beautiful, isn’t she?" Nginitian ko lang siya at pinahiga ulit. I eyed back to the book and continued reading. "Despite her traveling, the girl was not worried. One morning, she turned a corner and came across a ruined town. The ruins were inhabited with an abundance of life. But there were no people..." She slowly closed her eyes and I thought she was already asleep, so I gently closed the book—until I heard her mumble. "C-Continue, Daddy," she whispered in a sleepy voice. Gising pa pala! I smiled, opened the book again, flipped the page, and continued. "The girl went inside the castle of that ruined town. She saw a man sitting in a chair beside a deep-set window. A slim golden crown straddled his head. The man with a sad face and sad eyes is a Prince..." I stopped when I heard her sweet snore. My sweet little princess. She’s growing up so fast. She really looks like you, hon... sabi ko sa sarili. I leaned my head on the headboard of the bed and took the book I just read. The Sad Prince... Ako ba ang tinutukoy sa istorya? Am I really that sad? You will never know what will happen. You will never know who will come. And definitely, Lovie was the best person who came into my life. Napahikab ako, ramdam ang antok. Not just a couple of minutes, I instantly fell asleep... Sleep, sad prince...
