The days passed quickly. We and Celeste didn't see each other that much because, just like what Kevin said, she was busy with something else. Is it something or someone?
When I saw Celeste sitting alone at the library reading a book, I didn't hesitate to ignore her. I slowly approached her table and sat myself in front of her. It seemed like she already knew I was there, but instead of turning her gaze on me, she remained focused on her book.
"We haven't seen each other in a long time, Celeste," I said, hoping to somehow get her attention. When she didn't answer back, I added what I had to say. "Are you busy with your studies or with other people you are focusing your attention on?"
She chuckled, which made me roll my eyes. "We'll have a pre-test in business mathematics later. I need to study more."
"Are you serious?"
She laughed this time. The librarian turned to us when she heard Celeste, so we were no longer surprised when she gave us her warning.
"I need to be serious with my studies, Charmaine. You know, I'm the only one my daddy expects, "she replied before she proceeded with what she was doing. "Why are you here? Kevin was looking for you. You went to the computer laboratory together. "
I replied, "She's with Macey," which made her nod. "We met earlier in the corridor when I decided to go through here in the library."
I stood up in my seat when I decided to look for the book that we needed to bring later to the computer laboratory. I don't know if I marked where I laid my own textbook last week. I remember I landed it on top of my locker, but when I look at it, I haven’t seen it yet. I wonder where that went.
Inside that book are Charmaine's letters to Lawrence. I felt anxious whenever I remembered that thing, but instead of looking for it, I decided to just let it go. I bet that all the letters that were there had already been read by Lawrence, so I didn’t even bother myself to look for them.
For what else?
Does Charmaine still have a secret that Lawrence doesn't know about yet?
I started to look for the book I needed for our subject later on the shelf I passed. Almost all of the books I saw were related to computer science, and the book I was looking for was not there. I tried to hover my finger over the books on the shelf before I decided to pull out a book whose cover was unfamiliar to me.
"Where can I see you?" I whispered to myself before I returned it to the shelf where I picked it up.
I puckered my lips when I decided to go back to Celeste’s desk, but I was shocked when I saw Lawrence standing in front of me.
"O-Oh!" I said, groping for the next words that seemed to be stuck in my palate.
I saw the ghost of a smile on his lips while looking at me on the shelf where I returned the book. When he saw my stares at his lips, he became more serious. He even lifted his eyebrows in front of me when he noticed me, so I averted my eyes from him. I nodded before I turned my back on him and started walking away.
"What is he doing here?" I asked myself because of what I saw. "Shouldn't he be in the computer laboratory at these times?" I raised my arm to look for my wristwatch. "The class will start anytime."
When I got back to where Celeste was, I saw her busy reading her notes. It seems like she was busy today, and she's not in the mood to chat with me. I let myself shrug before I picked up my shoulder bag and my books from her table. She lifted her head and turned to me, looking confused by my sudden actions.
"It seemed like you were in a hurry, ah?" she asked, before I noticed her lips form a smile as she looked at me and the books I was holding. "Is there a problem?"
I shook my head. It's almost time. "I need to go," I replied.
It seemed like she was not done asking me when I hurriedly left the library and walked away to head to our next class. While I was walking down the pathway, some students looked at me as if I was a ghost in their eyes. I did nothing but look down and hurry my walk. I didn't expect to run into someone in front of me because my eyes were darting to the ground as I walked. Her books were dropped on the floor, while I, on the other hand, was sitting on the floor when I bumped into her.
"Oh my God!" she hissed.
When I saw a hand outstretched in front of me, and when I saw Cassie, who I had bumped into, I wasn’t surprised anymore. I accepted her hand before I felt her pull me from the floor.
"Are you hurt?" she asked me when I decided to help her with her books, which are now scattered on the floor because of my stupidity. "I'm sorry. I didn't see you. "
"That's okay," I smiled before we walked together. "Where are you going? Is your class over? "
She chuckled because of my question. "I was about to ask you about that, but then, yeah, we're done for today," she said, which made me bite my lower lip. "I have a practice for the upcoming intramural."
My eyebrows lifted a bit because of what she said. What kind of practice? What about intramural?
When she saw my eyebrows shut because of what she said, she chuckled. We stopped opposite the gymnasium where the students from her batch were practicing for the upcoming intramural at our school.
"I am the cheerleader's captain, so I needed to attend their practices," she said, to which I nodded before she waved her hand and smiled at me.
I stared at her going to the cheerleaders before I decided to walk towards the computer lab. I was in the middle of my walk when I was stunned when someone snatched my arm, which made me a bit stiff at his actions.
"What the f**k are you doing?" I hissed, which made Marcus chuckle.
I looked at him in disgust when he put his hand across my shoulder and we both resumed our walk towards the computer laboratory.
"I've been following you ever since, Charmaine," he whispered in my left ear, which made me grimace a bit. "There's someone following you from behind."
"And so what?" I hissed, which made him chuckle. "Stop nagging me. I haven't forgotten what you did to my cupcake. "
"I already extended my apology to you!" he said while laughing.
I did nothing but pinch his waist, which made him grunt because of what I did.
"If you were sincere, then you didn't need to use someone else to convey what you wanted to convey!" I hissed, which made him burst into laughter. "The audacity of you to use your twin sister in your stupidity!"
"Okay, fine!" he vomited, which made me roll my eyes. "I'm sorry and I won't repeat that thing. I promise you, Charmaine! "
"Why would I believe you?"
"Because I already promised it in front of you!"
I rolled my eyes before I faced him when we were in front of the computer laboratory. "Do you think I'll believe your gimmicks?"
"Of course you're not!" he chuckled, which made me pucker my lips.
We stayed in front of the closed door of the computer laboratory while staring at each other. I saw him lifting his lips, which made me red-faced before he handed me the textbook I lost last week.
"Did you know how long I spent looking for it in the locker room?" I asked him before I snatched the book he handed to me. "I've been looking for it for so long, it's just you who took it from me!"
He shook his head, which made my brows shut, especially when I saw his grin in front of me. "Do you want to know who I found that with?"
He slowly brought his face to my side and whispered in my left ear. My eyes immediately widened at what he said. My brows shut when he moved away as he whispered to me.
"That can answer what you want to know," he said before he faced me. "Try to do what I said." He chuckled before he opened the door and went inside.
I slowly turned in the direction he specified, and when I saw Lawrence walking towards me, my eyes almost widened in shock. When he lifted his head and when our eyes met, I hurriedly left staring at him and went inside to escape the reason why I felt this kind of feeling.
"Why do I feel something strange?" I whispered to myself before I shook my head and hurried to my seat beside Kevin, who was now staring at me.
