When the morning came, Asseraviel’s army were already busy. They were preparing for their departure, to return home to their country. Linfred was just standing on the veranda of the palace, quietly looking over the army.
“Where’s that child?” he asked.
“She’s still sleeping, Your Highness.” Taran replied. He was standing behind Linfred.
“Carry the child here, but take extra careful not to awake her. She might be really tired.” Linfred said.
Taran was stunned to what Linfred said. He couldn’t believe it that he’s hearing it from the emperor. But couldn’t help but to smile discreetly. He was just happy for his friend.
Maybe that child will teach you how to have something or someone that’s really important to you. That’s what he thought. He immediately sent knights to pass the word to the child’s assigned guard.
Grimmer knocked the door first of the child’s room. He slowly opened it when he didn’t receive an answer from the princess. He entered and approached the child on her bed. She was still sleeping peacefully, with her body all covered by her comfy blanket. He carefully, carried her to his arms to avoid waking her up. It was the Emperor’s order.
Grimmer carried the child all the way to where Linfred was. The emperor had already mounted his steed. The emperor brought his gaze down where Grimmer stood while carrying the child on his arms.
“I didn’t expect the day would come that I would rather choose to ride on the royal carriage rather than on my own steed.” Linfred commented as he gazed on the sleeping little child.
“We can prepare a carriage for you, Your Highness… if that’s what you wish.” Grimmer said, he slightly bowed down.
“There’s no need… we don’t have so much time here, and I want to get back as soon as possible. I don’t want my daughter to stay any longer in this place.” Linfred replied. He then extended his arms to reach for his daughter. Grimmer handed the child gently to the emperor.
Linfred carefully let the child sat in front of him and gently rested her head to his chest. He held on the horse’s ties again and wrapped his arms around his daughter to prevent her from falling.
“Now… let’s head out!” the emperor commanded. His horse started running and his army followed him.
After sometime, they have already arrived in the country of Asseraviel. The emperor’s arrival was welcomed by his subjects and royal guards. While he was walking in the palace’s hallway, all the servants and knights that he met bowed to him. He walked straight towards the room, he instructed to prepare for the princess. After reaching the room, he gently laid the princess on her bed while still deeply asleep. Linfred brought her blanket up to cover her body from being cold.
It was that time when the door suddenly opened wide. Fodel, the chancellor, was standing there. It was clear on his face that he was annoyed by something, that no one could probably understand.
“Are you crazy? Why did you do that? Why did you suddenly attack there! Didn’t it occur to you that it might be a trap set by the enemies? And what if that was really a trap? What if something happened to you? You’ll just leave Asseraviel without a ruler?” Fodel messed his hair in frustration. He was really steaming mad.
“You don’t probably know how hard it was to reassure the nobles after your sudden attack to that country! You could say I was still lucky that I was still alive! Good thing no one raised a resistance against us! What if there was? Then you wouldn’t have anywhere to return to!” Fodel continued on his long-winded reprimands.
Fodel noticed that the emperor wasn’t paying attention to him at all. The emperor was just standing still, facing his back to him. He was just silently looking at the bed in front of him, in which Fodel found unusual. He approached near the emperor and peeked to whatever Linfred was staring at.
He was surprised when he saw a little girl who were sleeping peacefully on the bed.
“Oh my God! You brought a child here? Who’s that child? Are you actually a pedophile Linfred?” Fodel covered his mouth upon seeing the child.
“Stupid!” the emperor slapped Fodel’s head. “What are you even saying… and what’s that pedophile supposed to mean? Where on earth have you picked that word?”
“Why did you bring a kid here in the first place?” Fodel caressed the back of his head where Linfred hit him.
“She is actually my daughter.” Linfred replied.
“Oh, so she was actually your child.” Fodel nodded. But he was absolutely surprised upon realizing what Linfred said. “WHAT? WHAT DID YOU SAY? She is… your… child? Who did… when did… you had a child?!”
Linfred rubbed his ears. “You’re too noisy… let’s talk about this outside.”
Linfred turned around and headed outside of the room. Fodel was left utterly shocked about what’s happening and to what his friend said to him. He brought his gaze again to the child sleeping on her bed. He noticed the obvious fact that the child had taken a resemblance to Linfred when he was still a kid.
Fodel followed the emperor outside. He closed the door as soon as he got outside and continued on following the emperor to the hallway all the way to the emperor’s office. Linfred sat and leaned on his chair, while Fodel remained standing in front of him.
“Would you mind explaining things Linfred? Like how that child came to being.”
Linfred just stared blankly at Fodel. “What a wonderful question you have there Fodel… so, how did it happen? I doubt I did things alone to make that child, right?”
Fodel covered his mouth. “My goodness, you were just away for three days and then you already have child that big?”
Linfred threw a book that hit Fodel on his forehead.
“Ack!” Fodel’s head raised upon the book’s impact.
“You stupid! Do you really think a child would come out from its mother when it’s already that big?” Linfred said.
Fodel caressed his swelling red forehead. “So, tell me what really happened…”
Linfred clasped his hands together and leaned on his desk. “She’s my child with Alyona.”
“Oh… What? Tell me who’s the mother again?” Fodel leaned closer to me.
“I don’t really want to repeat myself Fodel, you know that.” Linfred sighed.
Fodel stepped back and collected himself. “But it was just surprising to know that you actually had a child with that woman.”
He pondered a bit before continuing. “Actually, the real problem is, why did you bring that child all the way here? She might be ordered by her mother to kill you or collect information just like what that woman did.”
