After the wedding day, they didn’t even have a vacation. Their parents give them a gift that trip to Hawaii, but Jared rejected it. Jared’s only reason is because he was busy at the office and he needs to go back to work.
She just shook her head. She was just hoping that she could make the most of their vacation, so that she could somehow take some rest, but she didn’t because of Jared. That man!
After a week, she came back to work. “How was the vacation?” John asked her, or rather what she calls Joan, because her friend is gay and that is her only close friend at the fast food where she works at.
She has only finished high school, since her stepmother won’t let her go to college. Matilda said she should be grateful that she studied until high school and she shouldn’t dream of taking college anymore because it’s expensive. Even if she wanted to object to that idea, she couldn’t do anything because she was in charge of her life.
She just clenched her fist and made a heavy sigh. After this marriage plan, she will be able to get her freedom, she will be able to go to college and she will be able to go around the world like she wanted to.
“It’s fine,” she answered her gay friend listlessly.
“Then, what about the first night?”
She frowned as she looked at him. “What first night are you talking about?” She just shrugged. “Well, that day was the wedding and then we went home the next day. He even rejected the trip to Hawaii! And one thing, Joan,” she faced him. “You knew the reason why we got married in the first place, so you didn’t need to know anything what happened that day because we are both strangers in our lives, okay?”
“What are you mad about, girl? I’m just asking, you know.” She just shook her head and put on the apron when Joan flipped his hair as if he had. “Hey, is he handsome?”
She stopped and thought of Jared’s face. “Well, he has a handsome face.” She shrugged. The gay screamed loudly. “But grumpy, and he had a bad attitude.”
“Oh... don’t worry, Honey, as long as he’s handsome and yummy, then you’re a lucky girl already.” She just shook her head when he gently pushed her. He was teasing her. “Anyway, does he also have a yummy body?”
She thought about the young man’s body again. She didn’t totally see his whole body, but she could tell that he was hiding a beautiful body.
She shrugged. “Maybe.”
“Maybe what? Didn’t you see it, Honey, or even touch it?”
Her face frowned as he faced him. “What are you talking about? I didn’t see anything, okay? When we got to the hotel he also left and when I woke up the next day he was sleeping on the sofa.”
“Geez, your story is boring, like you.” Joan laughed, making fun of her.
“That’s why, don’t ask anymore because nothing interesting happened to me or to us.” She had put on her hat. “Let’s get to work. We might even be reprimanded for gossiping.”
IT was night when Saanvi got home to Jared’s house. When she entered, she sat down on the sofa and closed her eyes. She was so tired because there were a lot of customers at the fast food chain earlier.
“You just got home?” She opened her eyes and looked at Jared, who was just coming down the stairs. She just nodded in response to him because she was too tired to speak. “Where did you go?”
“At work.”
“You work?” Jared frowned.
“Of course, yes. How will I have money to buy food if I don’t work?”
“Why would you need money when your parents have lots of it?” She was suddenly stunned by what he asked.
She had just realized that Jared didn’t know about her being her father’s illegitimate child. From what Jared knew and the Martinez family, it was that she came from the States.
“They have a lot and I don’t. Their money is not mine. Also, I don’t depend on their money. “ She stood up and entered the kitchen. She took some cold water from the fridge and drank it.
“I could give you some.” She stopped drinking water and looked at Jared. “Only if you want to.” She didn’t answer because she didn’t expect that the young man would offer her his money. “Anyway, you can have my money because we are married couple afterall.” He sighed when she didn’t answer. “There’s food in there, just heat it up.”
She looked at him and only then did she notice that he was dressed up like he was ready to leave. “Are you leaving?”
“Yeah, and I’m leaving now.” She nodded, then waved at him.
Saanvi also noticed that Jared almost left every night. She didn’t even ask him where he was going because she didn’t care.
When the young man disappeared from her sight, she grabbed her chest. It was beating fast. She didn’t know why. Maybe it was because she was touched by what Jared said. She smiled involuntarily. It was kind of nice of him.
In the past few days that he and Jared have been together, things have been going well for them. It was clear to both of them that they had only entered into a contract marriage and one day they would also separate when her sister comes back.
Saanvi thinks that they are now friends because that’s how they treat each other. She cooks him breakfast and he cooks her dinner. Sometimes he makes deliveries.
They also do not neglect each other, especially since they need to maintain their marriage so that no one can say anything bad to their parents. They are just playing their part as a husband and wife in the paper, nothing else.
Saanvi thought that she and Jared were on good terms, and that they had become friends in the past few days, but she did not expect that she would discover a secret of his.
“Excuse me,” she called to the attention of the woman sitting on the sofa while looking around at Jared’s house. She didn’t know her. So she wondered how she entered their house. “Who are you and how did you get in here?”
The woman stood up and smiled at her. She was beautiful with an angelic smile on her face that made her stunned. “Oh, I’m sorry. By the way, I am Miles De Guzman.” She extended her hand to her. She also doesn’t see anything wrong with not accepting her hand. She also extends her hand to reach it. “Jared’s girlfriend.” Suddenly, the hand she was going to reach for was left in the air.
