CHAPTER 24
Hideo had told Aragorn and his other comrades about how that bastard man escaped from him and Leo. They should’ve tied him more tightly. And now, that man was out there, not suffering from any punishment after what he did to his concubine.
“I don’t what to do anymore. I know he’ll do revenge on me. He’ll kill me once he found me,” Zonia said. She’s worried about herself and bit her fear on her nails.
“Don’t worry about it. We’ll do anything for him not to find you,” Leo said and calmed her down. “Besides this hut is hidden from a lot of people and it would be difficult for him to find you.”
Leo’s right, Zonia thought. She shouldn’t overthink. These guys would do anything to protect her. All she had to do was to do her job as their servant. Serve them and she’ll be safe. She thought she was away from being that bastard’s concubine. He’s out there and he’ll surely plan something.
“I told the king about the matter, Prince Aragorn. He said he will help us in capturing that man down. The king won’t let you get hurt, Your Highness.”
“Why would I get hurt by that man?”
“Aragorn,” Leo said. “You are the one who did the judgment on him. Based on that man’s personality, he won’t let anyone step on him even someone with power.”
“Leo’s right. You should be more careful, Your Highness. Rebels and that man was up for you. There were more people out there who are on the chase after you. If the phoenix is actually alive, she’ll surely want to kill to take revenge on you.”
Azrael’s right except for what he said about the phoenix chasing him. Sphyra wasn’t after him but rebels and that bastard are going to kill him once they caught him. He wasn’t ready to face them. He knew his skills weren’t enough for him to went into a battle facing them.
Aragorn knew how to use a sword, dagger, bow, and arrow, and even spear, but he thought his skills weren’t the same as his father or any other leaders around the world. If he wanted to be a mighty one, he should be strong physically and mentally.
“Your journey as king is happening now, Your Highness,” Leo said. “You don’t have a choice but to face them all. Face all the conflicts and earn respect from the citizens of Caspian.”
Snows were shredded paper falling from the sky covered with clouds. Sphyra hugged herself while staring at a movie-like start of the winter. She covered herself and Burn with a thick blanket Aragorn brought him yesterday. The blanket was perfect for the start of the winter.
The fire she created was the only source of her light and heat in the cave. The dog was already sleeping. She can’t do the same because she wasn’t used to freezing weather even though she had experienced it for years. She had eaten her dinner earlier which was her fifth meal for the day. Whenever it’s cold, the times she eats in a day ranges from five to seven from her usual two to three.
It will only happen for a week, she assured herself. The one-week-long winter must be the reason why phoenix was only found in Caspian. Winters in other palaces and other masses of land, according to what she usually hears in the palace, happens for more than a month or even half of the year.
She thought of Aragorn. His attractive eyes and his authoritative sweet voice. He sneaked foods, blankets, and things to fight cold to her yesterday. He predicted that the winter will happen tonight and he was right.
She thought of her mother. Her lovely mother. She’d done anything to provide her the things that she needed to live. She provided her food and even toys even though it was dangerous for her to do. She missed her that much. The last winter she had spent with her was when she was seven years old and she was hugging and singing the song with her.
She was her heat. She was her comfort. And for more than ten years, she lost that comfort. She was killed by the king. She hated the king so much. Why does he have to kill her mother for position and power? Why do they have to become peculiar in this society? Why do they have to become a phoenix?
She stared blankly at the sky wishing there is a way for her to become a human, for her to become free from the curse.
