CHAPTER 33: PATALBUGAN
SALLIE (POV)
Ayun na nga, at natapos din ang pinakamahabang isang oras ng buhay ko with Miranda. Nakakaloka talaga ang flight na yun. Daig pa namin 'yung may matinding turbulence sa ere sa sobrang awkward ng aming pagtatabi. Maximum of five minutes lang ang kaya naming magsama nang magkadikit magmula noong maging magkaaway kami. Record- breaking itong isang oras na ito. Pang- Guinness! Bigyang jacket yan!
"Kumusta naman ang pagtatabi niyo ni Miranda? Dapat ay nag- usap na kayo." Saad ni Ancient nang magsama na kami pagkababa ng eroplano.
"Mag- usap? Mag- uusap man kami nun mag- aaway at magsasagutan lang kami. Tama na 'yung hindi kami nag- usap. Naku! Kung alam mo lang parang may kwago kanina. Kru... kru... kru... sobrang awkward."
Saka ako inakbayan ni Ancient. "Hayaan mo na. Tayo na ang magkatabi ngayon oh."
Ayun kinilig na naman ako. Akbay lang nagsiliparan na ang butterfly sa tiyan ko. Di ko alam kung sobra akong marupok o sobra lang talaga akong malandi. Nakakaloka!
Pagsakay sa van ay kaagad kaming inihatid sa hotel na aming tutuluyan. Inabot din ng isang oras ang byahe mula sa airport papunta sa hotel. Walang ka- awkward- an na naganap dahil nasa rightful place kami. Ako kasama si Ancient. Si Miranda naman at si Arthur. Ayos!
Pagdating sa hotel saka masisira ang lahat. Binati kami ng hotel staff at nang organizer Mr. and Ms. ECE student ng Palawa Super Duper University. Hostel ito actually ng university nila. Malapit daw sa karagatan ng Puerto Prinsesa ang paaralan. Pero hindi pa namin makikita ang view dahil malalim na ang gabi.
"Babae po ang magkakasama sa room. Lalaki po nakahiwalay kayo. Bawal ang lalaki at babae na magkasama." Saad ng isang organizer.
"NO!" agad naming reaksyon ni Miranda.
"Ano pong "no"?" Tanong ng organizer.
"Magjo- jowa naman po kami eh. Kami nalang po magkaka- relasyon ang pagsamahin ninyo." Suhestyon ko.
"Naku Sallie, hindi pwede. Ayaw naming mabahiran ng issue ang event. Kahit mag- boyfriend/ girlfriend kayo hindi kayo pwedeng magsama sa iisang kwarto. Baka biglang may magkabuntisan o s****l assault na mangyari. Ang sisisihin dyan sigurado ay ang Super Duper University."
"We promise na hindi kami maninisi." Tugon naman ni Miranda.
"Kahit na. Unfair sa ibang mga participant."
"Edi i- mix niyo rin sila." Ayaw paawat ni Miranda. Ganon namin kaayaw magsama sa isang kwarto. Tatlong gabi rin kami if ever magsasamang matutulog at magpapalipas ng gabi. Iniisip ko palang naloloka na ako.
"Hindi pwede Miranda."
"Isama niyo nalang 'ho kami sa ibang babae." - Miranda.
"Tama po!" Agad naman akong sumang- ayon.
"Hindi rin pwede. Kailangang mag- bonding ng bawat representative ng bawat university para mas maging mataas ang chance na manalo. May mga team points kasi tayo. Teka nga, may issue ba kayo sa isa't- isa."
"MERON!" sabay na naman kami ng pinsan ko.
"Naku ayusin niyo na yan. Makakaapekto yan sa performance niyo. At makakababa yan sa chance niyong manalo." Bilin ng organizer saka ito umalis at pinahatid kami sa aming mga kwarto sa mga staff ng hostel.
"Narinig niyo 'yon? Magbati na raw kayo huh?" Saad ni Ancient bago sila humiwalay ni Arthur.
"Arthur, my love! Hindi ko kakayanin 'to!" Saka yumakap at nakipaglaplapan ang magaling kong pinsan sa boyfriend niya. "Oh titingin- tingin ka dyan my dearest cousin. Magkasintahan din naman kayo di ba? Bakit di kayo gumaya?" Aba iba rin napansin pa talaga ako. Hindi nalang ituloy ang ginagawa nila.
Lumapit naman sa akin si Ancient. "Goodnight my moon. Matulog ka kaagad ka. Gabi na. For sure napagod ka rin. Wag mo NIYO NANG ISIPIN NI MIRANDA NA MAGKASAMA KAYO SA KWARTO. SANA MAGKABATI NA KAYO." kagigil din 'tong si Ancient eh. Pinipilit pa. Kaloka!
Pero syempre hindi naman nagpatalo si Ancient. Hinalikan niya pa rin ako sa aking mga labi. Sareeeeh Cedrick, ang layo mo ngayon oh! Samantalahin ko na 'to. Itotodo ko na 'to. Sayang kung ganitong hindi kami magkasama ni Ancient sa kwarto walang mangyayari sa amin. Sayang naman! Looking forward pa man din ako na hindi nalang first base ang mangyari sa amin kundi lahat na ng base para plakak!
Pagkahatid sa amin ni Miranda sa aming kwarto ayun nagpakaabala kami sa pag- aayos ng aming mga gamit. Tapos ay nabalot na ng katahimikan at awkwardness ang kwarto.

Pareho na kaming nakahiga sa aming mga kama. Isa lang ang banyo. Wala pang naliligo o naghihilamos. Kilala ko 'tong si Miranda, hindi siya makakatulog nang hindi naliligo.

"Edi wow! Wala naman akong sinabi sa past. Natanong ko lang." Pabalang kong tugon. "At kailan ka pa naniwala sa mga ganong pamahiin na mabubulag kapag basa ang buhok bago maligo? Di ba hindi ka naniniwala sa mga ganon?"
"Kanina lang. Hindi pwedeng magbago? Yung iba nga akala natin hindi magbabago eh pero sila pa ang maghahangad ng hindi maganda sa ating buhay!"
"Pinaparinggan mo ba ako?" Tanong ko.
"Tinatamaan ka ba?"
"Hindi naman. Ramdam ko lang ang pagka- ampalaya mo eh."
"Ako pa nga ang ampalaya! Ikaw ang naunang maging ampalaya sa atin! Kaya nga hindi mo agad sinabi sa akin na may nangyaring masama kay mommy di ba? Kasi gusto mong ipamukha sa akin na ikaw ang mananalong Prom Queen dahil sobrang bitter ka sa buhay ko kasi ako may ina! Ikaw nakikihati ka lang sa pagmamahal ni mommy!"
