I laugh nervously as I waited for him to take back his words. I know he's kidding. Of course he is. Why would he want me to become his date in an important event all of a sudden. "Did you came all the way here from wherever you live for this knavery?" I asked. "Knavery? You think I would waste my time for this?" he asked back instead of answering my question. Nicodemus opened the door of the driver's seat. "Don't forget to pick up my call. I will send someone to get you here in the afternoon." I held his hand to stop him from getting on his car. "You're serious?" Nicodemus move my hand away from his arm. "Tonight is the anniversary ball," he addded so casually like there's nothing I should be bother or panic about. I cursed out loud and stomp my feet on the street when he drives away. After messing up with my morning hair. I run back home and go straight to my room for my phone. As I switch it opened. I find myself biting my lips anxiously. I've never been this impatient in my entite life. When its opened. I immediately scroll on my recent call logs, save his number and send him a text message. To: Nico ×_× You can't bring me to that anniversary ball. I don't have something fancy to wear that would make me fit in to the prestige event. You'll embarrass yourself, same thing for me. I hit the send button and throw my phone on my bed, feeling scared of what he'll come up as his reply. The beeping notification of my phone for the incoming text messages sounds like a death bell to me. Muttering prayers, I grab my phone from my bed to read his reply. From: Nico ×_× There's a glam team waiting for you in a hotel roon. I told you I'll send someone who'll pick you up later, didn't I? Another message from him came. From: Nico ×_× See you later. The not so fast but loud thudding of my heart made me took a deep sigh while masaging my chest. Why am I feeling this way? Damn it heart! You're not allowed to beat this loud for that dictatorial man. It's crystal clear that I have no other option but to show up to that party. Just this time... to pay back for my so called debt. "What do you want for dinner?" I'm now continuing my peaceful breakfast that Nico disturb because of his presence outside. I sip on my freshly squeeze orange juice. "I'm not joining you and Dad for dinner. I need to be in an event with..." "With?" I smile slyly. "With a friend. He needs a company for their event." Fallon moves his head with a cheeky smile. "By friend you mean the business tycoon, Nicodemus Possilico---" "When will you leave?" I cut him off and drop another topic for us to talk about. Fallon sat up straight on his stool. "This Friday." Fallon Ymozhen is living the life I wanted before. He's a travel vlogger. He gets paid thousands of dollar for travelling all over the world. He's this generation's one of the most popular influencer. "Still have two days to get to know your potential lover." I brought down my fork and cutting knife with a disturbing sound. "There's nothing going on between us, I said!" I couldn't help but raise my voice that he only laughs at before he starts to eat his food seriously. "Kidding aside. It's about time you move on from Damon. I'm hoping Nico can help you with that," he said before he snatch his plate from the table to bring it to the sink. Two in the afternoon when I receive a phone call from Nico's secretary. She told me he's still in a board meeting but the car that will pick and send me to hotel McAllister for the preparation for Possilico Group of Company's 70th anniversary ball is outside my house. I left my piano and peep at the window pane. There's a white Lincoln navigator park in front of our gate. "One moment," I said and ended the call. I'm already dress for this. The only thing that's missing is a pop of color in my lips. I sauntered to my vanity and grab my rouge hermés lipstick and shaded it to my lips. "Fallon, I'm leaving!" I declare after a knock that I made against his door. I didn't wait for his response anymore and hurriedly walk outside. The masculine that is standing beside of the Lincoln Navigator opens the door as soon as he saw me stepping out from our gate. To: Nico ×_× I'm on my way to the hotel. You gonna get me there or we'll just see each other in the event's place?" Nicodemus didn't reply. He's still on his meeting, I guess. "This is Ms. Adalira Ymozhen, Mr. Possilico's date. Evah already gave you the instruction from Mr. Possilico, am I right?" said by the driver after he walk me to the hotel room occupied by three people and tons of fancy gowns, shoes and jewelry. The driver closed the door himself and I am now left in the hands of the glam team that Nico talked about earlier. The stylist pulled me closer to the racks of different gowns. "Mr. Possilico's secretary told us to let you pick your preferred gown for the ball." I dip my eyes in a set of gowns that looks extremely expensive, the one you'd see women of the royal family wear. "Will this look good on me?" I asked the stylist as I take a strapless blush tulle ball gown with an embellished lace bustier bodice. She nodded her head and stare at me intently. "Certainly. This will look perfect with a soft low bun and linear drop earrings." She walk to a table filled with sparkling jewelry to get a diamond linear earring. She handed the gown, earrings and a sequin open toe line-style buckle heel sandals to her co-stylist before she asked me to sit near the vanity table. Burning almost two hours of my life sitting on the vanity and letting the stylist do their job. I was fascinated by the way they enhance my feature hence making me slick and slendid. The stylist took my gown from the bed and gave it to me seconds after she's satisfied appreciating the magic she made to me. "Do you want me to assist you?" she asked. I stood up from the velvet soft chair and receive the gown cautiously. "I can do it alone. Thank you." She gestured the bathroom and even walk to its door. "I'll be here if you need help," she remined before she close the door. I remove my robe from my body and replace it with the beautiful gown, the fanciest that I've wore in my entire life. I look at myself in the life-size mirror attached to the wall. I look like Aurora from Sleeping Beauty! I saw cars queueing right in front of a red carpet where their passengers are intended to step on when they leave their luxurious rides. It's now my turn to make my grand entrance. My entrance and presence calls for more attention when Nicodemus swayed his way to the Lincoln Navigator and open the door himself to help me emerge from it. The reporters shamelessly clicks their cameras in our faces. I was blinded by the bright flashes that I stumbled. It's a good thing Nico caught my waist or videos of me embarrassing myself and probably him too will be out in the internet. I'd be this year's biggest meme if that happens. "Jesus Christ. I've never encountered someone as careless as you are," Nico whispered to my left ear secretly as we pose in the red carpet for pictures. One moment and after several changes in poses. He guided me to walk up to where the actual event is happening. "I'll introduce you to my Father. Please refrain yourself from making another mistake." He let go of my waist and intertwine his hand with mine before we go to the oldest Possilico, Sir Bishop who are with his cousin: Pharrel and Finlei. "Code." His father is smiling ear to ear. He left his tulip glass on the high top table. Bishop's warm smile turn became a curious line when his eyes jumped from his son to me. "Who is this lovely lady, son?" he hummed his curiosity. "I told you, Uncle. Nicodemus is seeing someone secretly," Pharrel muttered to Bishop that deepens the curiousity of the oldest Possilico. "Seeing someone secretly?" he repeated while his eyes is coming back and forth. Nico pulls me closer to his body, like he's shielding me from his Father's scutinizing chocolate brown eyes. "I'm not seeing her secretly." Nico look down on me and his Father again. "If I do then I wouldn't bring her here to introduce to you." His father, cousins and I were speechless. Bishop Possilico offered his hand to me. I swallowes hard and accept it with a nervous smile. After we shook hands his Father even give me a dearly hug. The one you'll see in movies when your boyfriend's parents welcome you to be part of their family. "Pleasure to meet you," he said. "Same," I responded. There were silence between the four of us. Realization came that out of all the word that I could say, 'same' is the least they expect to hear from me. "What the hell was that? Why did you lie to them? We both knew we're not dating. We only each other for freaking three days!" "That's fine. He's expecting us to be over within this week." Nico enjoyed his wine while watching over the guest that they invited for the celebration. He smirk at my confusion. "The longest relationship I had is three weeks. The shortest is one night." He drink on his wine again. "You know what I mean." "New record then. The shortest relationship you'll ever have is this. Two hours. I want you to stop showing around after this party." I was out of breath when Nico leans to my neck abruptly, the warmth of his breathe melted the boundary that I'm trying to build between the two of us. "Why? Do you own this city to tell me where I should and shouldn't be?" I had to hold on the high-top to prevent myself from falling when his hot lips landed on the sensitivity of my neck. "Or you want me to stay away from you because I'm making you feel foreign things?" he whispered seductively. I stack my hand in between us. "I just don't like you and one more thing you couldn't even make my knees tremble. Feeling foreign things for you is next to impossible, Mr. Possilico." I move away from him and leave the hall where the party is on-going. I clutch on my beating heart and leans on one of the pillar in the balcony. Damn, my knees are trembling so bad! "He affects you that much?" I redeemed myself in the shortest time that I have after hearing a masculine voice behind me. Finlei lit up a black cigarette and lean on the pillar next to where I'm standing. "You don't deserve him." My jaw drop at the marmol floor. Goodness, if they weren't a family who are too full of themselves then I don't know what they are anymore, was it because they're filthy rich and almost Kings of this city? "You're too delicate to be his girlfriend or wife, Adalira." Finlei inched the distance between the two of us. "A friendly advice. Kill the flame between the two of you before it kills you or worst him. I won't force you though. I'm just afraid that something from the past might happen again." Finlei pat my head. "You're not ready for that," he said and leave me wondering what he actually mean by that. What happened in the past that might happen again? Possilicos are expert in confusing the hell out of me.
