Blurb

Bound by master-slave protocols, Lalaine must navigate the maze of Wilrhic’s dark past while fending off the lethal jealousy of his Lycan servants. But as she works by his side, she discovers a dangerous truth, behind the monstrous mask lies a man broken by loss, mourning a bloodline erased from memory. Slowly, agonizingly, Lalaine earns the Demon’s trust.

But time is running out, and Lalaine is nineteen. On her twentieth birthday, the spell cast to hide her true heritage will vanish, unleashing the scent of a long-lost royal bloodline.

Lalaine isn't just human. She is the destined mate of the iron-masked Alpha.

When her true power awakens, the balance of the entire supernatural world shifts. Master and slave must become equals to destroy the forces that slaughtered their ancestors, but first, Wilrhic must trust her enough to take off the mask and face the only thing that terrifies him, the chance to love his true mate.

The Golden Cage and the Iron Mask
The heavy iron door of the cell didn’t just slam shut; it echoed, a dull, vibrating thud that felt like a nail being driven straight into Lalaine’s coffin. She stumbled forward, her satin slippers, once a vibrant royal blue that matched the tapestries of her father’s estate, catching on the damp, uneven stone floor. She hit the ground hard, the rough granite scraping the skin off her palms. "Oh, look what the cat dragged in." A mocking, sing-song voice drifted from the shadows of the cramped cell. "A little lost lamb. And she’s wearing silk!" Lalaine pushed herself up, her breath hitching in her throat. Her mind was still a chaotic blur of betrayal and terror. Just forty-eight hours ago, she had been Lady Lalaine, sitting at the mahogany dining table of the House of Del Torre. Then came her stepmother’s cold, triumphant smile, the glass of drugged wine, and the terrifying face of the assassin hired to slit her throat. “Your father is blinded by my love, dear child.” Lady Morga had whispered as Lalaine’s limbs went numb. “With you gone, the entire inheritance belongs to my blood. Goodbye, Lalaine.” But the assassin had been greedy. Why merely kill a pure, noble-blooded human girl when the supernatural underworld paid fortunes for them? "Hey! Human! I'm talking to you!" A rough hand gripped Lalaine’s hair, yanking her head back with agonizing force. Lalaine gasped, looking up into the cruel, striking face of a female werewolf. Even in the dim, flickering torchlight of the underground holding cells, the girl’s amber eyes glowed with predatory malice. She was tall, athletic, and radiated a sharp, intimidating heat. "Let... let me go," Lalaine choked out as her voice trembled. The werewolf girl burst into a harsh, barking laugh, looking back at three other women sitting on the stone benches. All of them possessed the same sharp features, the same dangerous aura of Lycans. "She wants me to let her go, girls!" The leader mocked, tossing Lalaine roughly to the floor. "Listen to me, you pathetic piece of meat. You are in the Underworld Black Market now. You aren't a lady anymore. You’re nothing but a fragile, useless human wrapper." "Look at her skin." Another werewolf sneered, walking over and kicking Lalaine’s thigh with a heavy boot. "One scratch and she bleeds. Why did the smugglers even bother bringing a human to a Lycan auction? It’s embarrassing." "Probably thought some desperate beta would want a cheap maid." The leader spat, crouched down until her face was inches from Lalaine's. "But let me tell you something, human. The men coming here tonight are billionaires, high-ranking pack warriors, and Alphas. They want strong mates, or at least Lycan concubines who can survive a rough night. A human? You'll break before the bidding even starts." Lalaine squeezed her eyes shut while hot tears stung her cheeks. "My father... he will find me. He will pay a ransom—" A heavy fist slammed into Lalaine’s stomach. The air tore from her lungs in a violent gasp. She curled into a fetal position, coughing violently on the cold stone. "Your father sold you out, or let you get stolen. No one is coming." The leader growled, her voice dropping to a terrifying, guttural register as her claws partially extended. "And nobody here wants you. You're going to rot in the clearance bins, or worse, get thrown to the rogue wolves as a chew toy. Let's make sure you look the part." What followed was a nightmare of blunt force and mocking laughter. They kicked her ribs, dragged her by her hair, and mocked her fragile, human cries. Lalaine tried to guard her head, but the sheer physical superiority of the she-wolves made her resistance laughable. Every blow felt like a sledgehammer. Her vision blurred, darkening at the edges. “Please,” She prayed into the freezing dirt, her consciousness slipping away. “Please, just let me die. Don't let them sell me.” "Enough! Wrap it up!" A guard’s booming voice barked from the corridor, the heavy clanking of keys signalling the end of her torment. "Auction starts in ten minutes! Get the merchandise lined up!" The she-wolves gave Lalaine one final, collective look of disgust. "Get up, human. Try not to die on the stage. It ruins the mood." The grand ballroom of the subterranean estate was the polar opposite of the filthy holding cells. It was a stall display of obscene wealth, crystal chandeliers dripping with diamonds, velvet-draped walls, and mahogany bars serving blood-red wine. The air was thick with the scent of expensive colognes, expensive cigars, and the suffocating, heavy pressure of dominant alpha auras. Lalaine could barely stand as she was forced into a line with the other captives, wearing nothing but a tattered, thin white shift that did nothing to hide the horrific purple bruises blooming across her skin. Her lip was split, her left eye swollen, and every breath she took felt like glass scraping against her lungs. "Welcome, Lords, Alphas, and esteemed guests, to the quarterly Red Moon Auction!" The auctioneer, a slick-looking man in a tailored tuxedo, announced from a raised stage. The crowd cheered, glasses clinking. One by one, the Lycan women were brought up. The bidding was furious. Millions of dollars changed hands in seconds as wealthy wolves bought bodyguards, mistresses, and workers. The she-wolves who had beaten Lalaine were sold off to prominent packs, their arrogant smirks returning as they fetched high prices. Then, it was Lalaine’s turn. The guard dragged her forward, forcing her to stand on the illuminated wooden platform. The moment she stepped into the light, a heavy, dead silence fell over the glamorous crowd. The auctioneer cleared his throat, his enthusiasm visibly dampening. "Up next... a rare delicacy for some, a unique pet for others. A purebred human female. Twenty years of age, educated, noble bloodline from the mortal realm. Starting bid... five hundred thousand dollars." Silence around, a total, mocking silence. A wealthy wolf in the front row chuckled, swirling his whiskey. "A human? Look at her, she’s half-dead already. One good grip and her bones would shatter. What use do we have for a fragile toy like that?" "Five hundred thousand? I wouldn't pay five hundred cents," Another laughed from the balcony. "She can't bear strong pups, she can't hunt, and she looks like she'll expire by midnight." Lalaine kept her head bowed, staring at her blood-stained feet. The she-wolves had been right. She was an anomaly here, a joke. The humiliation burned hotter than her physical wounds. She just wanted the floor to open up and swallow her whole. "Going once..." The auctioneer called out, a sweat bead rolling down his temple. "Is there no interest in this exotic—" Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the back of the ballroom swung open with a deafening crash. The temperature in the room plummeted instantly. A suffocating, arctic chill swept through the air, so dense and heavy that several high-ranking wolves in the crowd gasped, gripping the edges of their tables. It wasn't just cold, it was a terrifying, primordial aura of absolute death and dominance. It was the presence of a predator that stood at the absolute pinnacle of the food chain. Lalaine felt it too as her human heart began to hammer frantically against her bruised ribs, a deep, instinctual alarm screaming at her to run, hide, bury herself. Through the doorway walked a man. He was towering, easily six-foot-five, with broad, massive shoulders clad in a perfectly tailored, midnight-black trench coat that swept the floor. But it was his face that drew every eye and frozen breath in the room. He wore a full-face metal mask. It was crafted from dark, unpolished iron, molded into the terrifying likeness of a snarling, demonic wolf. No features were visible, only two narrow slits where his eyes should be, glowing with a faint, chilling silver light in the shadows. He didn't make a sound as he walked. He didn't look left or right. He carried himself with a terrifying, heartless silence that demanded total submission. Whispers broke out, frantic and terrified. "It's him..." "The Demon Alpha..." "What is Wilrhic Ren Vaugard doing here?" Wilrhic Ren Vaugard. The billionaire tyrant. The heartless Alpha of the Vaugard Pack, a man rumoured to have slaughtered his own lineage to take the throne, a monster who felt no pain, no mercy, and no love. Wilrhic didn't look at the crowd. He walked down the center aisle, the crowd parting like the Red Sea, men pulling their mates back in sheer terror. He stopped directly in front of the stage, his gaze locking onto the trembling, battered form of Lalaine. The auctioneer’s hands shook so violently he nearly dropped his gavel. "A-Alpha Vaugard... we are honored. Are you... Do you wish to bid on the remaining lots?" Wilrhic didn't speak as he slowly raised a single, leather-gloved hand, lifting two fingers. The auctioneer blinked, confused. "Two... two million?" Wilrhic’s hand remained still. His beta, a tall, stern man named Barton who had entered silently behind him, stepped forward. Barton’s voice was clear and cold. "The Alpha bids two hundred million dollars." A collective, choked gasp echoed through the ballroom. Two hundred million dollars for a broken, dying human girl? It was an absurd, monstrous amount of money. "Two... two hundred million!" The auctioneer squeaked, his voice cracking. "Going once... going twice... S-Sold! To Alpha Vaugard!" Wilrhic didn't wait for the paperwork. He stepped up onto the stage. His movements were slow, deliberate, and utterly terrifying. Lalaine shrank back, her knees buckling completely. She fell to her knees, staring up at the terrifying iron mask as it loomed over her. He stood over her like a dark god of doom. He didn't offer a hand. He didn't speak a word of comfort. His terrifying, silent aura pressed down on her until she could barely breathe. Slowly, Wilrhic reached down, his large, gloved hand wrapping around her upper arm. His grip was like iron, not painful enough to break her, but unyielding, a silent declaration that she was now entirely, irrevocably his property. He lifted her to her feet as if she weighed nothing. Lalaine looked into the dark slits of the metal mask, her voice a faint, terrified whisper. "Please... don't kill me..." The mask didn't move. No sound came from the tyrant. He simply turned, dragging her gently but firmly by his side, walking out of the ballroom into the dark, uncertain night, leaving the stunned underworld behind.
