THE BAD BOY’S FIRST KISS
CHAPTER 14
DEVVY’S POV
MY friends and I ended the video call since it was already 11:46 p.m. We had been talking for about almost three hours in the night. We have no assignments and quizzes for tomorrow, so there would be no problem.
I threw myself on the bed with my phone in my hand. I was about to turn it into airplane mode, and I would sleep when a notification popped up. And my heart jolted upon seeing Matthew’s name on it. I blinked a few times and stared at it to make sure that I was not hallucinating.
But it was really him. He just sent me a friend request on f*******:.
We are not friends on f*******:. Even though I have a crush on him, I did not send him a friend request. I had thought of sending him that, but I had chosen not to. How I get updates from him is through visiting his f*******: profile and through Mikayla and Yannie. They are friends with Matthew on f*******:.
Now, I don’t know what to do. He himself is the one who sent me this. Is this really true? He might have clicked the wrong button or what. I wonder why he sent me this.
I went to his f*******: profile and stayed there for a few seconds. Should I accept this or no? It’s not a big deal if I accept his friend request, though. After all, we are batchmates.
I silently took a breath and decided to accept his friend request. When we were finally friends on f*******:, I saw a green circle at the bottom right of his profile photo that means he is online. I quickly exited from the app and turned my phone into airplane mode, then put it on the table, which was just beside my bed.
In the morning, I woke up late. I had slept late last night because I kept on thinking about what Matthew did. Little things really do make me curious and awake for long.
“Bye, sweetie,” I heard mom say as she gave me a peck on my cheeks.
“It’s really okay if you commute later? It’s tiring.” Dad came to kiss my head.
“Yeah, Dad. You both take care,” I said.
“Okay,” Dad gave up. They then left me to go to work.
We have no class this morning because the teachers will have to attend a particular event, which I didn’t know about. Since Mom and Dad went to work already, and I am not busy this morning, the house is mine. I’ll be having my own concert here at 9:00 a.m.
When it was already nine in the morning, I started singing acapella. Of course, not just that alone. I’m doing it while washing the dishes, general cleaning of our home, watering my mom’s plants and flowers both indoor and outdoor, and other stuff until I tire myself out.
I was fond of mellow or ballad songs, but since I was cleaning, I didn’t sing songs like that, of course. My tasks would take time a lot of time to finish. I chose those lively and spirited songs to finish my tasks earlier.
Three hours later, I was already in the garden, leaning against a tree.
"I didn't know; what I did was so much exhausting." I sighed heavily. It's a good thing, though. I'm sure Mom and Dad will be surprised when they got home.
I went inside to do what should be done so that I could already go to school. After fixing myself, I happily left our home and started commuting. I arrived at school exactly right the bell rang.
I had just sat down on my seat when Mikayla called me. “Dev, the principal called you to the office.”
“Huh? Why?” There was a beat of nervousness that hit me suddenly. “What did I do again?” I asked confusedly.
“We don’t know, but Calisha and Lyka are there with their parents. Your parents—we didn’t see them,” said Yannie.
I sighed softly. “Thanks for informing me. I’ll just go.” I went out of the room.
Before I headed to the building where the principal office is situated, I suddenly bumped into someone again. I haven't noticed his or her presence because I was busy chatting with the girls in our group chat.
“It’s you again.”
The manly voice was not new to me, so I raised my head to look up at him as he’s taller than me. Confirmed. It was really him. "M-Matthew…" I gulped and froze.
Matthew looked at me steadily, which made me feel awkward. Both hands were inside his trousers' pockets while his bag slung onto his one shoulder. It felt like he was hypnotizing me. Before his eyes could melt me down, I quickly passed by him to hurriedly go to my destination. The principal must be waiting right now.
“Hey! You’ll leave again without saying sorry!” I heard him say. I looked around. Good thing no one saw us.
Thankfully, I reached the building. I looked back to see if he wasn’t following me. Then I sighed in relief. I went to the principal’s office.
Sir Nguyen, Calisha, Lyka, and Hunter are in the office.
“Good morning—I mean, good afternoon, Sir,” I greeted the principal and then closed the door.
“Please have a seat, Miss Quiroz,” he said.
I did what he did, but I sat down next to Hunter. I didn’t want to sit next to Calisha. Now, Hunter and I were together on one long sofa. Calisha and Lyka were on the opposite while Sir Nguyen was on his sofa where he could face the four of us. He was like the head of a family.
“We’ve done talking with Miss Yanong and Miss Ferolino,” Sir Nguyen said. “We’ve settled the issue already. Their parents wanted to apologize to you personally for what these two had done,”—he was referring to the two other girls inside— “but something came up to work. I think it’s okay. Right? I think it’s better if these two girls are the ones who should apologize to you.”
I glanced at Hunter, then at Calisha and Lyka, and after that, at Sir Nguyen. "Y-yeah." I smiled—it was a half-smile, though.
“Okay. Now, girls,” Sir Nguyen had the attention of the two girls who were silent and glaring at me when Sir Nguyen wasn’t looking at them, “time to apologize to Devvy sincerely,” he said, putting emphasis on the word “sincerely.”
“I’m sorry, Devvy,” Lyka went on first. That didn’t sound sincere, though.
“That’s it? You didn’t sound sincere,” Hunter butted in.
Lyka sighed. "Fine." Now, her voice calmed down. "I'm sorry if we did that to you, Devvy. I admit our mistake. Hope you'll forgive me." She smiled.
“And you, Miss Ferolino?” Sir Nguyen inquired Calisha.
“Sorry,” Calisha simply said, crossing her arms.
“We are sure that wasn’t sincere,” Sir Nguyen commented.
"I already said my sorry. It's up to her if she would accept it or not," Calisha pronounced in an evidently annoyed tone.
"Miss Ferolino!" Sir Nguyen's voice became strict, unlike a while ago, which his voice was friendly.
“Sorry, Sir,” Calisha apologized to Sir in a good way.
“That’s the way you should apologize to Miss Quiroz—with regret. Our business will not be finished here until you apologize,” Sir Nguyen told her.
Hunter leaned against the sofa as he crossed his arm. “Say it, Calisha. I wanna go out.”
Calisha planned to speak when Sir Nguyen spoke first, telling her, “Look at Miss Quiroz.”
Calisha was forced to look at me. She breathed before she spoke. “Look. I am sorry, Devvy. I’ve only done that because I was afraid someone would replace my rank. That was so immature of me. It was all my fault. I will not do that again. I’m sorry.” She then lowered her head a bit.
Okay. That was—
Hunter suddenly smirked, but he didn’t say anything, though.
“Apology accepted. It’s now okay since you admitted your faults. I hope you learned your lessons.”
After that session, Sir Nguyen dismissed us. Hunter went out first. The two girls instantly followed.
“Thank you, Sir,” I said to the principal.
“No problem, Miss,” he just simply said with a smile.
As soon as I was out already, I saw Hunter leaning against the wall. He was alone.
“Thank you, Hunter.” I didn’t know why I said that again to him.
He chuckled and stood firm with his hands inside his pockets. “You’re really grateful, huh? You’ve said that many times already.”
“Of course,” I laughed. Then I noticed we were already both walking together. "From the very beginning, you already knew it was them. You didn't even tell me earlier so that I wouldn't have panicked… and cried that much," I softly said.
“Now, you’re not thankful anymore?”
“I’m still thankful, though.”
"Sorry if I didn't tell you earlier. My intention was just to have them taste their own medicine."
“And good thing they did.”
“But be careful still, Dev,” he reminded. “I just feel that they were just acting when they apologized to you. I feel that their sorry wasn’t sincere. Watch around you. They might come to you if you’re alone.”
I was silent for a bit to think about what he just mentioned. Then I realized he might be true. “Thanks for the reminder.”
“Are you really sure that there’s nothing between the both of you?”
I almost jumped when someone spoke from behind us. Hunter and I turned our heads to the back.
It was Matthew. He's with Troy. And I realized the three bad boys are with me now. "God, this is not happening…" I said, barely inaudible.
Matthew and Troy looked at me, and it felt like I melt. I can’t resist this. I must go now.
“Hunter, I must go—”
“Where’s your sorry for bumping into me again a while ago, Miss?” Matthew asked.
“H-huh?” I stuttered. The memory of our encounter a while ago popped up in my head. Without ado, I turned my back to them and attempted to run away again when Matthew suddenly spoke.
“Don’t even think of running away again. I will chase you if you do.”
