THE BAD BOY’S FIRST KISS   CHAPTER 12   DEVVY’S POV   WE learned that Sir Nguyen and Mrs. Suarez got mad with Calisha and Lyka. They are from the first section, and they are top students, but what they did was unacceptable. Mrs. Suarez had informed Calisha and Lyka's parents already that they will have a private talk all together with their daughters in the principal's office tomorrow.   Currently, Calisha and Lyka stayed inside the classroom. No one dared to talk with them two because of what they did. Even they did not want to speak with others. That was a shame of them for humiliating me with their own doings. They did not even apologize to me after tainting my good image. I did not really mind, though, so long as I was proven innocent already. I just hope they learned their lesson, especially Calisha.   Two of our male classmates entered the classroom with notebooks in their hands that stole our attention. "Hello, guys! Louie and I will be returning our Mathematics notebooks. Sir George had done checking and recording our assignments already. Suppose you have corrections, clarifications, or what, just go to his office. We are vacant at this time, anyway," announced Luis.   After that, they distributed the notebooks. A few moments later, we heard complaints from a few of our classmates after seeing their ratings.   “Is this really true? Why did I only get 80%?”   “Yeah, I only got 80% as well. I thought the assignment was very simple?”   “80% is not bad, though. I got 78%. This not fair.”   “I think Sir George didn’t check our assignment well.”   "Calisha, how much did you get?" asked Gab. Some of our classmates became silent when they heard that while the others were holding their laughs. The rest were just waiting for what would happen.   Shaine elbowed Gab lightly in his arm. “Hey. Don’t you dare tease her. She’s mad. Remember?” They were closer to me, so I did manage to hear what she told him.   Lyka looked at Gab like she was angry at him. “Expect that she got a high rating. She’s the Top 1. Remember?”   Louie handed Calisha’s notebook to her. He had intended to peek at her notebook when Calisha raised her brow at him, making him leave her.   “She got 88%. Wow!" said Jigs, one of our male classmates, when he looked at Calisha's notebook from behind when she opened her notebook.   “See?” Lyka pronounced confidently.   "Here are yours." Luis handed to me, Yannie, and Mikayla our notebooks.   “I got 81%,” Yannie said low. She peeked over Mikayla’s notebook opening. “How much is yours?”   “Mine is 82%, one point higher than yours.” It was Mikayla.   I looked at mine. I got 88%, the same as Calisha’s.   “Who got the highest grade? Can I copy the correct answers to some problems?" someone said aloud. It was a girl's voice.   “I think it’s Calisha again. Go on and copy hers if you can,” we heard River reply.   “Our best friend got 88% as well. Don’t you want to copy hers?”   With my widened eyes, I quickly looked at Yannie when I heard her announce that. “Hey!” I stopped her. I found out she saw me looking at my notebook, so she peeked in.   I saw my classmates getting surprised. “Devvy, can we capture your notebook?” I heard some of them agreed.   There was no reason for me to refuse, so I awkwardly smiled since they looked at me and then gave them my notebook. When I tried to shift my eyes to Calisha, she was already glaring at me that made me quickly take my eyes back.   "I bet she cheated once again, or maybe she was not the one who answered her assignment," we heard Calisha insinuate.   I didn't bother to pay attention to what she said because that wasn't true, but Mikayla fed the troll, saying, "It's been proven that Devvy did not cheat, and for your information, Devvy answered her assignment all by herself. We found her out in the Mathematics park. You're just saying that because you don't want someone to beat your rank."   "That's true," Yannie agreed. "Why does it seem like our best friend threatens you?"   “Because she doesn’t excel usually. It’s very suspicious as to why she suddenly gets high scores. She suddenly gets smarter,” Calisha replied.   “Maybe Devvy’s just naturally smart. We don’t know. She looks relaxed with her studies. How much more if she studies very hard as you do, she could beat you,” Shaine mentioned. I don’t know, but it seemed to me like my classmates were trying to wake up the beast in Calisha.   Calisha stood up from her seat. “That will never happen. I won’t just sit and let her be the Top 1. I will do everything to maintain my spot.” She looked at me again firmly. “Calisha is Calisha.” She then grabbed her things and stormed out of the classroom. After that, Lyka followed her out.   A moment of silence.   Then some of the guys were holding their laughs.   "You're so bad, guys. It would be best if you hadn't done to her. She might think we're all against her," I said, trying to be as kind as ever, though it was awkward to let those words out on my part.   “It’s fine, Devvy. She must learn her lesson. Because she is the Top 1, doesn’t mean she could easily step on someone,” Gab pronounced.   I didn't say anything anymore. Gab has a point, though.   When class is finally over, my friends and I already parted ways. I was about to call my mom when she suddenly texted me.   Mom: Hi, sweetie. Guess I can’t fetch you. There’s an urgent meeting here in the office. Can you call your dad? Take care.   Devvy: OK, mom. No worries. Mwah!   I beeped my dad to tell him I’ll just commute. The weather is good, and I just want to breathe some fresh air while walking. However, after few minutes, I suddenly heard a familiar voice of a guy from the back.   “Sleepover? Okay. Just don’t bring girls. My parents will kill me if they find out.”   Hunter?   “Cool. Bye.”   Yeah, right. It’s him.   “Devvy? Devvy!” I heard him call when he recognized it was really me.   I was about to turn back to see him when I didn’t as he’s finally on my right side. I remember what he did this morning. I looked to his side.   “What’s with that look? You’re gonna cry again?” he chuckled.   “I already watched the whole video before it was deleted.”   “Oh?” He rubbed his nape.   “I don’t know now how to thank you enough. What you did was too much.”   “It’s no big deal,” he chuckled again.   “Thank you so much.”   "You're welcome, and that's enough."   “Since when did you have this side?”   “What side?”   “You know what I mean—your good side.”   “Ouch.” He acted like he was hurt. “You really think I’m that bad?”   “I mean, that’s so not you.”   He breathed out a sigh softly. “I’m the only son of my parents. You are the only daughter of your parents. Since our parents are close friends, think of us like I am your older brother and you are my younger sister. Okay?” he said, suddenly putting his left hand on my right shoulder that caused me to startle a bit.   I raised a brow.   “You feel awkward? If you do, maybe you have a crush on me?” A teasing smile twitched on his lips.   I rolled my eyes at him, slightly being mean to him. “As if.”   “Then good,” he simply stated and laughed shortly.   "Oops! What is this we're seeing?"   Hunter and I instantly turned our heads to the back when we heard someone speak. And my eyes widened when it was Matthew who spoke. He’s with Troy, and they were both looking in… I followed their eyes… in my shoulder. Then I realized it was Hunter’s hand they were looking at.   Hunter seemed to notice it, too, so he immediately detached his hand off my shoulder and faked a cough. “That was nothing.”   “Really?” Troy said.   “Yeah.” That was Hunter.   I didn’t look at Matthew, but I think he was looking at me. I saw it from my peripheral vision. “Uhm, I think I should g—”   I was about to say to Hunter that I must go first already when he didn’t let me finish because he cut me off, saying, “Troy, Matt, this girl is Devvy,” he introduced me suddenly to his friends. “Dev, they are my friends. I'm sure you know them. This is Troy, the silent playboy," Hunter introduced Troy with a slight laugh that made Troy flash a glare. Hunter looked at Matthew and said, "And this is Matthew, the one who thinks that you were his firs—”   Hunter had not finished what he was saying when Matthew cleared his throat.   "Sorry, bro," Hunter smirked at him.   “U-uhm, nice meeting you,” I nervously said and smiled at them. Then I quickly looked at Hunter. “I must go first. Thank you again.” After I said that, I ran away, leaving them.   “Devvy! Wait!” I heard Hunter calling me, but I ignored him. I don’t care what they will think anymore so long as I have gone away already. I’m afraid someone would see me with those three. Aside from that, Matthew was there.   Why do our ways suddenly keep colliding these days? It’s making my heart go crazy.
