Chapter 1
Astrid Dressed in a red nightgown that fell only halfway down my thighs and exposing my smooth legs, I lay sideways on the bed, making sure every curve of my body was on full display. I want my husband to be surprised when he sees me. Alpha Logan and I had been married for six months, yet we had never consummated our marriage. He insisted it could only happen once he became the Alpha of the Lunar Pack. Leading the pack and leading the war between Velcan Wolves and Suncrets Wolves had always been his greatest dream. The first already came true a month ago, when the Lunar Alpha passed away. As the Beta of the pack, he became the new Alpha of the Lunar Pack. He won against others who also want to become the new alpha. But leading the war between Velcan Wolves and Suncrest Wolves is not necessary. Because it's unlikely to happen again. After the war that happened in the Forbidden Mountain fifteen years ago, the vicious Velcan Wolves fled into hiding until now. Our Lycan King, at a young age, led the Suncrest Wolves and defeated the enemies. Now that Alpha Logan had held the title, he had no more excuses to delay making our marriage real. A smile touched my lips as I heard the door open and close. My husband was home. I put on an alluring smile, hoping he would be captivated the moment he stepped inside. But instead of looking pleased, his brow furrowed as if the sight of me displeased him. His reaction stung, but I refused to show it. I stood and walked toward him, moving with deliberate grace. I wrapped my arms around his neck and brushed soft kisses along his skin, only to freeze when I caught a familiar scent. It was Claire’s perfume. There was no mistaking it. “Why do I smell Claire’s perfume on you, Alpha Logan?” I asked, unable to hold back. “Maybe because we are always together. Have you forgotten she is my secretary?” he replied, his voice sharp and annoyed. Claire was more than just his secretary, she was also the daughter of the pack's former alpha. I tried to let it go, arguing would only cause trouble. They spent every day side by side, so it made sense that her scent might cling to him. I leaned in to kiss him, but he pushed me away abruptly. His gesture hurt and felt like a slap to my pride. Was I not beautiful enough? Did he feel nothing for me at all? After six months of marriage, he had never kissed me, not even once. Worse, no one even knew we were married. To everyone else, I was only his friend. No title, no status. Logan kept our marriage hidden because he feared people would say I was not good enough for him. Because I was just an ordinary woman without anything special about me. But he didn't know I was the daughter of the Crimson Pack with four doting older brothers. Crimson Pack is the richest pack of all the werewolves. And have abilities that no one would have. I left our pack a year ago and chose to stay at the Lunar Pack because of Logan. I saved him before, and that's when I fell for him. “Why did you push me away? Do you not want me?” I asked, my voice trembling with hurt. He quickly drew near and guided me gently to sit on the edge of the bed. “I’m sorry, Astrid. I’m just exhausted from work. I promise, after the marking ceremony, I will introduce you to everyone as my wife. We will finally consummate our marriage.” Disappointed, but I nodded. The ceremony was the day after tomorrow. Then he would finally claim me publicly, and I would officially become the Luna of the Lunar Pack. I did not press him further. I simply waited for the day to come. At last, the moment I had longed for arrived. Soon, everyone would know I was Alpha Logan’s wife. I'm no longer his friend. Two hours before the ceremony, I hired a skilled makeup artist to doll me up. I wanted to look my absolute best so Logan would be proud to stand beside me. And I also decided to tell him the truth about my real identity and what I'm capable of. “You look breathtaking, Astrid. You're the most beautiful woman in the whole Suncrest City,” my best friend Cleya said in awe. She was a member of the Lunar Pack and the only one, aside from my family, who knew the truth about my marriage and identity. “Thank you,” I replied with a soft smile. “Let’s go, or we’ll be late.” I walked out with my friend, ready to leave, until something made me stop from walking. “What’s wrong?” Cleya asked, noticing my hesitation. I scanned the area around us. I have a weird feeling that a pair of eyes is watching me, following my every step from the moment I stepped outside. I pressed a hand to my chest, and my heart began to race wildly, as if it had recognized something, or sensed something strange and powerful. “Nothing…. Let’s go,” I said, brushing it off as excitement for the ceremony. Once Logan marked me, our bond would be official, and I would be recognized as his destined mate. When Cleya and I reached the ceremonial hall, it was already packed with guests. My eyes searched until I found Alpha Logan standing at the center stage, holding a microphone. Logan cleared his throat and began to speak. “First, thank you all for being here today. This ceremony is for the woman I love most. I want to thank her for her endless support and devotion.” “He sounds so sweet,” Cleya whispered as we walked toward the stage. I smiled, full of hope. “She helped me become who I am today,” Logan continued. “Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce my fiancée... and my destined mate, Claire Wagon.” My feet froze. Claire Wagon? Not me. For a second I thought I misheard until Claire stepped forward, smiling, as the crowd erupted in applause. It was real. He was claiming her, not me. “What about Astrid? Isn’t he your friend who likes you?” one guest called out. Logan finally looked my way. Our eyes meet for a few seconds. And I was deeply hurt by what I saw in his eyes. There was no warmth, no love, only a cold smirk. Then he answered. “Astrid and I were only friends. Claire is my childhood sweetheart, my chosen mate. I’ve told her many times that Claire is the only woman I love. She is my destined mate.” My hands clenched into fists. My heart aches so much. Alpha Logan's every word cuts deeper than a blade. My eyes clouded with tears, but I refused to let them fall. I would not give him the satisfaction of seeing me break. With my head held high, I walked straight to where they stood and stopped in front of them. “I wish your love lasts forever,” I said, my voice steady and clear. “But I curse you both. May you never have an heir, not ever.” Alpha Logan's face turned dark with anger but I ignored it. I just turned back and walked out of the hall, outwardly calm, while inside my heart shattered into a million pieces. I was wrong to choose Logan. Wrong to ignore my father’s warning that he is not a good person. He betrayed me. He broke me. But one day, I would make him feel every ounce of the pain I felt now.
