Chapter 55

The woman really did not have an ounce of remorse, nor did she have any sense of caution when it came to doing things. She couldn’t believe how easily Dana fell for her little trick, though it did cause her something for Crystal it was worth it. “I am so sorry girl if we ended up here, I just can’t leave right now, especially since we just opened another store you know,” Brittany says as she sat down in the chair facing her. It took her a while to respond since she was caught by surprise since she was in deep thought at the moment. Looking at her friend, quickly put a smile on her face, seeing how cheerful and much livelier she looked now. “What are you saying, this is fine, besides I’m the one who asks you out remember,” she waves her off. They were currently in one of her friends' newly opened restaurants and it seems that didn’t go well with Brit, seeing as they usually met at a different place. “Yeah, what’s this about anyway? This is so out of the blue. I mean, It’s only Wednesday, don’t you have work today?” Brittany quickly asks. As she had anticipated, her best friend was already noticing something odd with her sudden invitation to meet up with her. Not wanting to prolong the reason behind it, Crystal just decided to come clean and not make any more excuses. “I just quit,” she says with an awkward smile on her face. She couldn’t help but feel a bit bad, since it was her best friend who actually found that job for her. The news immediately erased the sunshine in Brittany’s eyes, replacing it with an intense shock and sadness. “What, why, what happened?” she says worry suddenly etched on her face. “I was suddenly reprimanded for something that they couldn't even justify,” she smirks knowing full well the reason behind her being called out. Brittany immediately had fire in her eyes. “Huh, I don’t get it, will you just please elaborate for me,” she tries to say as calmly as possible. “Is it really okay? I mean you have so many things on your mind already,” she pouts since she didn’t really want to bother Brittany right now. She only wanted to let her know that she was no longer in the company since she knew that sooner or later she’d find out about it. “Just spill it out already,” Brittany rolled her eyes as she leaned on her chair. With that Crystal proceeded to tell the reason behind it all. “So, here’s the deal. I was suddenly called into the office by my boss a few days ago, seems one of the clients I was handling had a complaint about my work. When I ask what it was so I can fix it, they weren’t able to point it out. Then all of a sudden my supervisor suddenly goes all bossy and starts saying that I shouldn’t try to justify myself and just accept the two-week suspension since if everybody found out the reason behind the complaint, my whole career and reputation would be over. And so, I was like, what are they talking about, and then my boss suddenly states that what I did, was unethical and very grave misconduct on the part of the company. So I was like, do I need to get a lawyer for this, I barely know the accusations being pointed at me. When I mentioned that, they suddenly started lecturing me about dating and seducing married men, and also very high-profile clients. So, with that, I asked if they had proof of these accusations, and they just kept saying that there have been several complaints, and that was enough. So, I chose to file for an immediate resignation with a large separation pay, else I was going to file a lawsuit against their own misconducts.” She points with triumph and confidence, as she knew she was in the right. That got a quick glare and a brow raises from Brittany. “My first question is, did you really date a client?” the woman says in a very uninterested manner, trying to hide her anger. “During work hours, no.” Crystal immediately says, grinning. “So you did date someone, and the man’s married?” Brittany could not help but glower at her, though there was a hint that she seemed unconvinced. “Actually no, there was no date or anything else happening, plus it was all made up by a jealous wife,” she clears out. “Hold up, you know you can sue for defamation if that’s the case,” Brittany slams her fist into the table. As usual, her best friend was ready to rage war on those who were bullying and taking advantage of her. “I know, though I do want her husband to know about what happened first,” she quickly states. After all that had happened, she was going to make sure that she gets even. “Wait what? So you know who they’re talking about,” Brittany frowning at her both in surprise and confusion. “Well, there is only one client who fit the case,” she could not help but smirk, knowing full well who had actually caused those reports. “I don’t get you, girl, why involved him? And who is he anyway?” Brittany sighed, suddenly holding her head from a possible headache. “His name’s Larse August. You know, Dana’s husband,” she says with a mischievous grin on her face. That suddenly made Brittany sit upright, her brow almost touching each other as she looked at her. “Hold up! Are you serious! That woman actually had the gall to accuse you of that after what she did!” her friend was fuming mad after realizing everything. “Amazing isn’t it,” even she could not believe the woman’s hypocrisy. Tilting her head, Brittany was suddenly silent for a moment. “Wait, if that’s the case, does that mean you’re still seeing Larse?” she says afterward. “It was purely business, his company hired our company and I was the one they sent to handle it,” she waves her hand to clear that out. That got another brow raise and a meaningful look from Brittany. “Uhuh, and Dana knowing about this so-called business is also just a coincidence,” she says with a very unconvinced tone. Crystal just shrugs her shoulder about the subject, though there was also a part of her that had the same question. Seeing as she should have known about the said matter months ago since she had people working for her all around the office. “Whatever you’re thinking, I just hope you know what you are doing,” Brittany let out a deep sigh, finally realizing what was on her mind this whole time. “I’m not the same girl like before Brit, you should know that. And besides, I’ve already made plans ahead,” her grin widens even more. Even though there were a lot of things that she didn’t anticipate and weren’t in her plans. She was still able to make the most of the things that came her way. “Girl, you are scaring me right now. Though I can’t say I ain’t proud of you, I just can’t help but still worry. If you would just tell me what you’re planning and the thing you want to do, maybe I could help. If it’s something within the bounds of morality and logic of course,” Brittany clears out, letting out a deep breath as she still seemed a bit confused. She understood that very well since her best friend usually took the quickest and scandalous way, even though it included physical pain when it came to things. While she on the other hand did not want that knowing she didn’t have the means nor the finances for it. “I don’t want to drag you into this, especially since you just got on to the good side of things, I’d like to do this on my own and in my special way,” she states. “Girl, please! You know I won’t leave you all on your own,” Brittany smirks as she let out a snort, rolling her eyes in disbelief. “Thanks, Brit, I know you have my back, that’s why I’m not that scared to go through with this, though I’d really like to do this slowly and as surely as possible,” she just tells her, not wanting to ruin her plan. There was also a part of her that didn’t want to always resolve to ask for help from her best friend, not wanting to bother or become a nuisance to the woman’s life, seeing as she was finally starting on her own journey to a happy future. “Maybe If you just tell me what’re you planning, I would know what to do and how to actually help you out without causing any additional problems,” Brittany scoffs rolling her eyes. It was obvious that her friend was sulking from not being included in her little payback plan. But she decided that it was for the best, after finding out about the woman’s relationship. “Actually, there is something that you could do for me.” She giggles. Though she didn’t want to include her friend in her plans, there was still something that she knew she could do. Knowing full well that her friend was really into those kinds of things. “You better explain this to me in detail this time, cause I ain’t liking being left in the dark here.” Brittany pouts, as she placed one hand to support her face as she looked at Crystal with full intent.
