A Bestfriend Is Supposed to Be Part of Your Life…
Well, yes—it’s true. But not all bestfriends. Some of them turn out to be snakes.
“Jake, we’re going to be late! Are you still asleep?” I called out as I entered his house. I had just arrived from mine because today was our school trip. My fiancé and I had an agreement whoever woke up first would come to the other’s house and wake them up.
Last night we didn’t meet—he said he was going out with a friend.
“Jake!” I called again, placing my bag on the sofa. But my steps faltered when I spotted a dress lying carelessly nearby. My brows furrowed.
Slowly, I walked toward his room. When I got close, faint voices slipped through the slightly open door.
“Jake… mmm… we’re going to be late for the trip.”
“Anna will be there anyway, so it’s fine.”
My heart stopped. I froze where I stood, because through that gap, I saw them. Together.
And the pain… the kind that shatters your soul—was seeing your bestfriend lying on top of your fiancé.
“Edith!” I pushed the door wide open. Their faces turned pale, shock flashing in their eyes.
“A-Anna—” Jake stammered.
I shook my head. Tears blurred my vision as I backed away, rushing downstairs. My chest felt like it was being crushed. I ran out of the house without another word.
Why didn’t I scream?
Why didn’t I fight back?
Why didn’t I lash out?
The answer was simple.
Because it hurt too much.
Edith wasn’t just anyone—she was my bestfriend. And Jake? He was my fiancé. We were supposed to be married after graduation.
“Oh, what happened to you, Anna?” Clara asked when she saw me arrive at school, my face streaked with tears.
“N-Nothing.” I forced a weak smile and wiped my cheeks, but the tears wouldn’t stop. My other friends noticed too, their concerned glances piercing, yet I kept silent.
I was weak.
Moments later, the two of them arrived. Edith walked with her chin held high, not a trace of guilt in her stride.
The bus pulled away, and silence wrapped around me the entire ride. My hands trembled as I fought to hold back my tears, but no matter how hard I tried, the ache in my heart grew heavier.
And that day… I regretted not doing anything.
The whole trip, they stayed glued to each other. I wanted to confront them, to ask why? But fear held me back. Fear of what they might say.
I was weak. Pathetic.
On our way home, the skies darkened. Rain began to fall—first gentle, then violent. Thunder roared, lightning split the heavens, and the heavy downpour blurred the road.
“Ahhhh!!”
The bus swerved. Screams erupted.
And then—darkness.
We had been in an accident.
I died… without ever knowing why the two people I loved most betrayed me.
I loved Jake. Edith was my bestfriend. I never wronged them. And yet…
“Ah!”
“Lady Yvaine!” a voice called.
My eyes shot open. My breaths came fast and shallow. I looked around in shock. What… what happened?
Memories rushed back. The accident. My death. Yet here I was—alive again.
But fate’s cruel twist?
The very same day my bestfriend who had betrayed me with my fiancé die too … and now she is my step sister.
“Yvaine, is this truly what you want?” my mother asked gently.
I was no longer Anna. I was Lady Yvaine, the first daughter of the Grand Duke.
“Yes, Mother,” I answered firmly. “I will speak to the Queen Mother myself.”
And Edith? She was my stepsister now. Her mother, nothing more than a concubine.
“Sister, I didn’t mean it. I love Oslind,” she pleaded.
It turned out my ex-fiancé in my first life had become my fiancé once again in this second one.
But Edith remained the same—shameless and greedy. If in my first life she had stolen Jake from me, in this one she tried to steal Oslind, the Third Prince.
“It’s fine,” I told her coldly. “I don’t love him anyway.”
But this time was different.
Because in my past life, I stayed silent. I did nothing—and I regretted it until my last breath.
This time, they will pay.
“After all, you’ve always been shameless. So you can have him. But let me warn you now—be careful, Micaela, my dear sister.”
