“Is he already here?” Aiden asked me as she looked around the whole apartment, but she did not see him so she looked at me with her eyebrows raised. “How come he can be so late at the time like this, huh?” She crossed her arms under her chest that made me sigh, loudly, to show her that I could not understand her.
I pointed at the clock that was located on our living room before I said to her, “It was too early for him to go.” I had a sarcastic tone when I said that to her that made her glare at me. “We agreed to meet at exactly six in the evening, and here you are, asking me where he is, even though you knew that it was too early!”
She flinched when she heard me raised my voice, but she regained her composure and acted like a functional adult, even though the both of us knew that she is not like that, and she would never be. She even sat in front of me with that pointed look of her, but I knew better than getting intimidated by her.
“He was suppose to meet me,” she told me that made me roll my eyes even more. “How come that he had guts to show up so late, huh? In fact, he should be already here! He was supposed to impress me, your best friend!”
I sighed, loudly, again because of what she said and rolled my eyes at her. “Maybe, he has a work that he needed to do?” I told her to wake some senses on her, but it seems like she did not hear any words that I said because she had that look on her face as if telling me that she did not care. “Also, I already told you that it was still early!”
She glared at me, fiercely, but I did not back down and looked straight into her eyes and that made the both of us have an eye to eye battle, before she finally blinked and tried as hard as she could to bring back her ‘composure,’ even though the both of us knew that it would never happen, and it never does before.
She was about to argue with me again, but she stopped when she heard my phone rung, with a ring tone for the incoming messages, and the both of us look to see who it was. But before she could completely see the person who texted me, I held my phone away from her eyes and looked at the message, with her complaining to me, saying that she should also see who it was and what the message is all about.
I did not pay any attention on her anymore and opened the message as my smile started to form onto my lips when I saw that it was Asher. He was telling me that he was already on the lobby area and that I should go down and meet him now.
“Who it is, Hera?” Aiden asked me, but my gaze was still on my phone as I replied to Asher that I was on my way to go down on the lobby so that he could already go inside of our apartment without so much hassle.
“It was Asher,” I answered Aiden as I started to stand up from my seat. “He told me that he was already on the lobby so I will go down and you will be able to meet him now, alright?” I looked at Aiden, and I almost laughed because she looked like a puppy right now who nodded her head, obediently, at me with that huge grin on my face.
I did not pay any attention at her excitement anymore as I heard her say that she could finally meet the boyfriend of her best friend, and I just walked out of our apartment to meet Asher on the lobby of this building.
Earlier this week, Aiden asked me when she would be able to meet my boyfriend because she was already curious on what he looks like, and she also said that she wanted to talk to him, or should I say, threaten him because of how she was looking so evilly as she told me that she was excited to meet my boyfriend, even though I still did not agreed with what she wanted to do.
Though I could still clearly remembered how she nagged at me, and annoy me, non stop, even though I was on my work. She even called me when she had a spare time just to tell me that I should already agree with what she wanted to do.
I also remembered that time when I was having a lunch with Asher, and yes, we were already back to normal. It was that time when Aiden called me over and over again and I had no choice but to answer her call because Asher already asked me why I was not picking up my phone, and he reasoned that it must be important, so I had no choice but to answer her call.
“Why didn’t you pick up my call on the first ring?” Aiden asked me on the other line, irritated, but I did not care less because I was more irritated than her and I did not like the sound of me killing my own best friend because of how annoying she was acting that moment.
“Because I know that you will just keep on bugging me!” I told her, and I forgot that Asher was in front of me, not until her stopped eating as he looked at me with an eyebrow raised, and I could see that he was rather amused than shock because of how I was acting.
I lowered down my phone and covered the speaker so that Aiden would not be able to hear what I was about to say to Asher. “It is my best friend,” I told him almost a whisper, and I heard him laugh a little before he shook his head. “She kept on bugging me, these days, over something that I did not want to do.”
Asher shook his head again as he saw me pout like a child who was complaining to her parents. He just waved my complains off, as he told me that I should continue my call with my best friend so that she would not ‘bug’ me anymore. Though I doubt that she could really do that, because I knew how annoying she could be, just to get what she wanted to have.
And at that moment, she wanted to meet Asher, but I did not like the sound of it so I just kept on ignoring her, as I did not bother to answer her question and continued my life, peacefully, as if she was not bugging me.
Though I must have known better than refusing this best friend of mine, because as soon as she realized who I was with, even though I covered the mic of my phone with my own hands, she squealed like a cr*zy woman she is, and that made me remove my phone from my ears for the second time that day.
“Could you stop screaming?” I asked her, annoyed, as soon as I heard that the other line had already calmed down. “You were like a ins*ne woman right now, you know?”
And because it was Aiden whom I was talking to, she ignored what I just told her and asked me, “Are you with Asher right now?”
I looked at Asher, and he also turned his gaze at me with a frown on my face, as if asking what was wrong, but I just shook my head and told him that he should continue to eat because I did not think that Aiden would hung up the call.
I sighed again as I answered Aiden, “Yes, I am with Asher right now.”
After all, I knew that I could not hid the fact that I was with Asher, and it was also a plus that it was best friend that I was talking to. Because I knew that she could tell that I was indeed with Asher, even if she was only on the phone and could only hear what I was saying to her.
“Then, you should already tell him that I should meet him!” she said, almost excitedly, that made me let out a loud sigh again. “Come on, Hera!”
“What is it?” Asher asked me when he noticed that I was looking at him with an unamused expression on my face. “Is there something wrong?” he even asked me that made me let out a loud sigh again, as I was contemplating if I should tell him that Aiden wanted to meet him or not.
“Come on, Hera! Hera!” I could still hear that Aiden was acting like a child who wanted to get what she wanted, and that was the moment that I have decided to tell Asher what was going on because I did not think that Aiden would stop bugging me any minute from that moment.
“Aiden, my best friend, told me that she wanted to meet you,” I finally told Asher, loud enough so that Aiden would be able to hear it from the other line. I could almost hear that she was screaming out of delight after I said that. “If that is alright with you, that is.”
Asher did not think about it twice, before I saw him nodded his head, almost immediately. “Alright,” he agreed with what Aiden wanted to happen.
Even though I was praying that he would refuse, or that he would tell me that he was too busy for him to meet my best friend, because I really thought that this was not the right time for the both of them to meet, I was relieved because I knew that Aiden would finally stop with her complains, and she would finally stop bugging me even though she knew that I was so busy with work.
“He agreed,” I told Aiden and that made her screamed, again, and I just hope that she was alone on her office because I did not think that I could take the secondhand embarrassment for her. “I will just inform you when will he visit our apartment, alright?” I did not wait for her to answer that as I told her again, “Bye!” before I hung up the call.
I let out a sigh as I shook my head and dropped my phone somewhere on my bag, before I looked at Asher again who still had this amused look on his face, and I could tell that he was stopping himself from laughing, maybe because of what he just witnessed almost a minute ago.
“Are you sure that it is alright for you?” I asked him, still hesitant if it was really alright for him or if he just agreed because Aiden was on the other line earlier. “I mean, it was alright if you were still not ready to meet her yet.”
Asher shook his head, lightly, a charming smile was formed on his face. “I was really alright for me,” he told me, still wearing that smile of his. “You just have to tell me when will it be, at the morning or an hour before, so that I would not be able to forget about it.”
I smiled at him as I let out a sigh of relief again. “Alright, then I will ask Aiden when will she become free from her schedules.” I looked at him again, and showed him my relieved smile that made him laugh again, but it was turned into a frown when I remembered something that he said earlier. “I did not think of you as a man who would forget about something like that though,” I told him, confusion was written all over my face.
Asher laughed a little again because of what I said. “Really?” he asked me, so I nodded my head at him again, a frown was still seen on my face. “Then, you were able to know me better than before.” He winked at me right after he said that, and that made me laugh at him too.
“Yeah,” I agreed as I started to eat our food again. “Maybe, I should start knowing you more.”
After that not-so-eventful lunch that Asher and I had, I started to set a date that the three of us would be able to talk. And now, that day had come when Asher would be able to meet my ever so cr*zy best friend, Aiden.
We were already inside of the apartment that Aiden and I shared, and I could tell that Asher was rather calm than those boyfriends that I saw on television dramas where they were too nervous for their own good and they were not able to answer the other party.
Even when I met him on the lobby earlier, I could not see any hint of worry and anxiousness on his face, and for me, it was more than alright because I could already tell that Aiden would be able to like Asher for me.
Though the room was quiet for almost five minutes now, I could tell that it was not an awkward one. I knew that the both of them were just waiting for the right time to speak, and I could tell by the looks of my best friend that she was just preparing her speech for Asher who was just calmly looking at her.
“First of all,” Aiden said that made me straighten my back, and I saw that Asher did that too. “I would like to ask if you are really serious about your relationship with my best friend?” I looked at Aiden as if asking her if she was out of her mind, but she just shrugged her shoulders and continued to gaze at Asher.
“Yes,” Asher said in a calm sweet tone that made Aiden raised one of her eyebrows. “I was always serious with my relationship with her.” Asher looked at me with a smile on his face, and that also made me smile at him a little.
But before we could have sweet moments in front of my best friend, we heard a loud bang as if someone hit a table and I already knew that Aiden was the one who did that. We both looked at her at the same time, and I could tell that she was not amused over something, or should I say, she was acting as if she was not amused over something.
“Then will you promise me that you will not disappear like that anymore?” she asked that made Asher taken aback. “Do you promise me that you will not do something that will make Hera cry? Do you promise me that you will not do anything that could hurt my one and only best friend? Do you promise me that you will not b*llshit this relationship with her?” she asked those questions, simultaneously, that even I could not understand it all.
It was not the same with Asher though, because I heard him answer her, “I already promised that to her, and I think that I will fulfill all those promises.”
Aiden and Asher looked at each other for a whole minute, before I saw Aiden smiled at him as she looked on my side. She nodded her head as if she was satisfied with her ‘interrogation’ and that made me roll my eyes on her again.
But I smiled when I heard her say, “I approved your relationship with him.”
