Chapter 1
NANGINGITI ang dalagang si Hazel Madrigal habang binabasa ang message sa kanya ng kanyang mysterious long time textmate. She never met this guy, but she trust him and she's comfortable to talk to him even during late nights.
That’s why Hazel had no idea what he looked like. But judging by his voice, she already loved his baritone tone. Every time they talked, she would secretly swoon while listening to the young man’s deep and husky voice from the other line.
She knows that this guy has two kids already. They shared secrets with each other. Everything that happened throughout their day, they talked about as if they were in a relationship. . . even though they really weren’t.
They were in the living room of their mansion, and it was already past seven in the evening. Their family had just finished having dinner together.
Hazel was the only daughter and the youngest child of the couple, Haden and Sofia. She had two older brothers.
Hazel entered the world of modeling in Paris at a young age. She took after her mother, who had once been a model in Paris as well. Her family fully supported her, so even though they were far away from the young woman, they continued to support Hazel in everything she wanted and dreamed of.
“Ang daddy talaga. Ang seloso naman ng daddy ko. May kinakausap lang po. He's a friend,” nakangiting tugon ni Hazel na ibinaba na sa center table ang cellphone at yumakap sa braso ng ama nito.
“He? Friend? Are you sure he's just a– friend?” pag-uusisa ni Haden sa dalaga nitong napahagikhik.
“Opo, he's just a friend.” Sagot ng dalaga na diniinan ang pagtawag ng ‘just a friend’.
“But he is a boy, anak.
“Ang totoo niya'n, Dad, I never met him po. Pero–it's been three years na araw-araw po kaming nagkakausap. We shared some secrets, pinag-uusapan ang mga ganap sa buhay at kung ano-ano pa, Dad. I'm comfortable with him kaya hwag na kayong mag-usisa about him. He's a nice guy po.”
You said you’ve been sharing some secrets with him. Be careful, or it might turn into something else, hmm? Who knows, he could be a paparazzi. Baka mamaya ay kilala ka niya'n at gagamitin ang mga sinasabi mo sa kanya against you, pagdating ng araw.” Nag-aalalang wika ng ama nitong ikinanguso ng dalaga.
“I don't think so, Dad. Mabait po ‘yong tao, ano ka ba? I wouldn’t trust him if I felt that he wasn’t a good person. Besides, he also shares his secrets and the things happening in his life with me.”
“Kung gano'n, bring him here.
“Goodnight, Daddy. I love you,” malambing saad nito na hinalikan sa pisngi ang ama na pilit ngumiti at tumango na hinaplos ang anak niya sa ulo.
“Goodnight too, sweetheart.
Haden’s gaze followed his daughter as she walked away. Worry was clearly written all over his face for his unica hija. He let out a deep sigh and rubbed his forehead.
And that was to marry her off to his friend--the one he knew would never abandoned or hurt his daughter--Mike Henderson!
“Are you sure about this, hubby? Magagalit ang anak natin sa gagawin mo,” Sofia said worriedly to her husband after Haden told her about his plan.
“But we need to talk to our daughter first before arranging her marriage to Mike, hubby.
. . ayaw niya. Weren’t we like that before too? We didn’t want to marry each other because we didn’t know one another and didn’t even like each other,” Sofia replied, letting out a yawn from exhaustion and sleepiness.
He carefully pulled the blanket over their bodies. He also kissed his wife on the forehead as she snuggled close to him, before finally deciding to go to sleep as well.
“Goodnight, wifey.
It wasn’t her intention to eavesdrop on her parents, but when she heard her name being mentioned, curiosity got the better of her and she stayed outside their room.
“No, I won’t allow you to marry me off to someone I don’t love, Daddy. How can you do this to me? You’re going to force me to marry a man I don’t even love?” she muttered in her mind, anger and hurt clearly written across her beautiful face.
She had spent several years living abroad because of her modeling career. She was already twenty-six, and marriage was still nowhere in her vocabulary. That was why she could never agree to marry someone--especially a man she didn’t even know!
That was exactly why she came back to the country and took a break--to spend time with her family. But now, it turns out that her father was planning to marry off someone she didn't even know!
“What should I do? If I stay here, they’ll definitely force that marriage on me,” she thought to herself. “Should I go back to Paris?”
She shook her head and let out a bitter smile. If she went there, her family would surely find her, and the wedding would still happen anyway.
“No, I can't go back there.
“Oh my God! Why not?!” bulalas nito na nabuhayan ng loob!
She hurriedly packed her things. She only took a few clothes and some personal belongings, stuffing them into a single bag. She also left behind all her cards and even her wallet.
She only packed a few outfits--just enough to last for a couple of days--so the guards wouldn’t suspect anything from the small bag she was carrying.
"Gosh! I hope he'll help me!" she thought anxiously, thinking about the person she can rely on to keep her family from finding her!
Her longtime textmate. . . the single dad living in the countryside named--Mike Henderson!
