CHAPTER 1
The ocean breeze brushed softly against my skin as I stood at the end of the aisle, my fingers trembling slightly around the bouquet of white peonies and roses.
Kung may nagsabi sa akin noon na darating ang araw na ito—na ikakasal ako sa isa sa pinakamayamang lalaki sa mundo—malamang natawa lang ako.
But here I was.
Standing barefoot on powder-white sand, the horizon glowing gold from the setting sun, para akong nasa gitna ng isang eksenang sadyang inilayo mula sa buong mundo.
Sa harap ko, nakaupo ang halos isang daang piling bisita—family, closed friends, and some are billionaires, politicians, celebrities, and world leaders—mga taong sanay na maging sentro ng atensyon saan man sila magpunta.
Pero sa araw na ito—
hindi sila narito bilang mga public figures.
Narito sila bilang mga taong pinagkatiwalaan namin.
Dahil kahit gano pa sila kakilala, kahit gaano kalaki ang impluwensya nila—
ang kasal na ito ay nanatiling pribado.
Walang media coverage.
Walang reporters.
Walang paparazzi na nag-aabang sa labas.
Walang kahit anong anunsyo sa publiko.
Ang lahat ng narito—
ay tanging mga taong personal naming inimbitahan.
At kung ano man ang mangyayari sa araw na ito—
mananatili lamang dito.
Sa isla.
Sa pagitan namin.
This wasn’t just a wedding—
it was something far more intimate than any grand event could ever be.
The ceremony was held on Sebastian’s private island resort in Palawan, isa sa mga eksklusibong isla na pagmamay-ari niya kasama ang iba pang luxury properties niya sa iba’t ibang panig ng mundo.
Mahigpit ang seguridad.
Isinara ang buong isla ilang araw bago ang kasal.
Private jets and yachts lamang ang may access.
Lahat ng staff ay may confidentiality agreements.
Because nothing about this day was meant to be seen—
only to be remembered.
Ang buong beach ay binago para maging isang lugar na tila hinugot mula sa isang royal ceremony—
Crystal chandeliers hung from a floral arch.
Thousands of imported white roses lined the aisle.
A live orchestra softly played in the background.
Everything looked surreal.
And somehow… all of this was for me.
I took a deep breath.
“Miss Montgomery,” the wedding coordinator whispered gently. “Ready na po kayo.”
I nodded.
Pero ang totoo?
Hindi ko alam kung handa na ba talaga ako.
Because my life used to be simple.
Very simple.
I’am Arabella Montgomery, twenty-three years old, an orphan, and an only child.
Wala akong pamilya.
Wala akong kilalang kamag-anak.
Lumaki ako sa scholarship programs and dormitories. I learned very early that if I wanted to survive in this world, I had to rely on one thing.
My mind.
Nag-aral ako sa University of the Philippines Diliman, taking up Economics and Finance. Hindi dahil iyon ang pangarap ko, kundi dahil alam kong iyon ang magiging sandata ko para makaahon sa buhay.
And I graduated as Summa c*m Laude.
After graduation…
I built something of my own.
Hindi ako nagtrabaho sa iba.
Hindi ako umasa sa kumpanya ng iba.
Because on that same day—
By the end of that day—
what I received…
umabot sa milyon.
So I started small.
A quiet beginning.
A few ideas.
A capital that came from what I earned—
and what I was trusted with.
And a lot of sleepless nights.
Now?
I run my own boutique consultancy—
a financial and economic strategy firm that helps growing businesses manage risk, investments, and expansion.
Hindi siya kasing laki ng mga kumpanya ni Sebastian. Tuldok lang ito compare kay Seb.
But it was mine.
Pinaghirapan ko.
Pinagpuyatan ko.
Pinaglaban ko.
Maraming nagsasabi—
“Masyado kang bata para sa ganitong level ng negosyo.”
I just smile.
Because numbers had always been my language.
And building something from nothing…
Was always my strength.
Markets, policies, economic structures—those things made sense to me.
People, however?
Not so much.
Especially men.
Until I met him.
Sebastian Alejandro Montemayor.
Thirty-five years old.
Tech billionaire. Global investor. Founder and CEO of Montemayor Nexus Group, a multinational empire that revolutionized AI infrastructure, fintech systems, and satellite communications.
According to Forbes, his net worth was already somewhere in the hundreds of billions of dollars.
One of the richest men in the world.
But the funny thing was…
When I met him—
I had absolutely no idea who he was.
It happened three years ago.
I was working part-time at a small coffee shop near the university. Kailangan kong pagsabayin ang trabaho at pag-aaral noon, graduating na ako noon.
It was a rainy afternoon.
Mahaba ang pila ng customers that day, and I was already exhausted when a deep voice suddenly spoke in front of me.
“One caramel macchiato without caramel.”
What? Ano daw caramel macchiato without caramel.. pwede ba yun?
I looked up para sabihan sana siya pero pag angat ko ng mata ko.
I forgot how to breathe.
He was tall. Easily six foot two. Sharp jawline, dark hair slightly messy, and the kind of eyes that looked like they could read every thought in your mind.
But what stood out the most was his presence.
Quiet.
Powerful.
Dangerous.
He didn’t look like someone who belonged in a random campus coffee shop.
“Name for the order?” I asked.
He paused for a second.
Then he smiled slightly.
“Sebastian.”
Just Sebastian.
No last name.
No titles.
Nothing.
What I didn’t know back then was that the man standing in front of me…
Owned half the technology infrastructure that powered the modern world.
But at that moment?
He was just a stranger buying coffee.
And somehow…
That stranger would become the man waiting for me at the end of this aisle.
The man I was about to marry.
The orchestra music shifted.
It was time.
I lifted my eyes.
And there he was.
Standing beneath the floral arch.
Sebastian Montemayor.
Dressed in a perfectly tailored black tuxedo, his broad shoulders straight, his expression calm—but his eyes were locked entirely on me.
Like I was the only person in the world that mattered.
My heart started beating faster.
God.
Even after three years…
He still had that effect on me.
I slowly began walking down the aisle.
One step.
Then another.
Every pair of eyes followed me, but I could only see him.
Sebastian.
The most powerful man in the world.
And somehow…
The man who chose me.
When I finally reached him, he took my hand gently.
His thumb brushed against my fingers.
Warm.
Steady.
Possessive.
Then he leaned slightly closer to me and whispered in a voice only I could hear.
“Still time to run, Bella.”
A teasing smile touched his lips.
I lifted my chin.
“Too late for that, Sebastian.”
His eyes darkened.
Then he said softly—
“Good.”
Because what neither the guests…
Nor the world…
Nor even I fully understood yet—
Was that marrying Sebastian Montemayor would not just change my life.
It would drag me into a world of power, danger, and secrets…
That I might never escape from.
The music softened.
Parang dahan-dahang humihinto ang mundo habang nagsimula akong maglakad papunta sa kanya.
Each step sank slightly into the warm white sand, but I barely felt it. Para akong lumulutang. Parang panaginip.
Sa harap ko…
Nakatayo si Sebastian.
My soon-to-be husband.
The man the world feared, respected, admired… and envied.
But right now?
He looked nothing like the powerful billionaire everyone knew.
He looked… vulnerable.
My breath caught.
Because from where I stood, I could clearly see it.
A tear.
Slowly sliding down Sebastian Montemayor’s face.
For a second, akala ko mali lang ang nakita ko.
Sebastian rarely showed emotion. He was composed. Controlled. Almost intimidating in how calm he always was.
But right now…
He looked like a man who had just received the greatest miracle of his life.
And that miracle…
Was me.
My chest tightened.
Grabe.
Hindi ko alam kung anong ginawa ko sa mundong ito para maging karapat-dapat sa ganitong pagmamahal.
As I continued walking, narinig ko ang mga bulungan ng guests.
Soft laughter. Happy murmurs.
Everyone looked genuinely joyful.
This wasn’t just a union of two people.
It felt like everyone here was witnessing something rare.
Something real.
I glanced briefly to the left side of the aisle.
And there they were.
My in-laws.
Daddy Alejandro Montemayor and Mommy Victoria Montemayor.
Two of the most influential people in international business and philanthropy.
Yet when they looked at me, their expressions were warm… proud even.
Not once did they make me feel like I didn’t belong.
Not once did they question where I came from.
No interrogation about my past.
No whispers about my being an orphan.
Instead, Mommy Victoria once told me something I would never forget.
"A woman who built herself from nothing will always be stronger than someone born with everything."
From that day on, she treated me like her own daughter.
And Daddy Alejandro?
He simply smiled at me the first time we met and said—
"Kung ikaw ang nagpapasaya sa anak ko, anak na rin kita."
My throat tightened.
I quickly blinked away my tears.
Because if I started crying now…
Baka hindi na ako makapunta sa altar.
Then my eyes shifted to the right side.
And immediately—
I saw a very familiar face already crying like a broken faucet.
Claudine Valdez.
My best friend.
My ride-or-die since college.
The woman who survived thesis season, coffee shop shifts, and countless instant noodles with me.
She was clutching a tissue dramatically.
When she noticed me looking at her, she mouthed—
"Gaga ka, umiiyak ako!"
I almost laughed.
Typical Claudine.
Even on my wedding day, she managed to keep things real.
And somehow, that made the moment feel even more genuine.
I was only a few steps away from Sebastian now.
The ocean wind lifted the edges of my veil, and the golden sunset light reflected in his dark eyes.
God.
He looked devastatingly handsome.
Tall. Composed. Powerful.
But that tear was still there.
Still glistening against his cheek.
When I finally reached him, he didn’t immediately take my hand.
He simply looked at me.
Like he was memorizing every detail.
Like he was afraid this might disappear.
Then slowly… he reached for my hand.
The moment his fingers touched mine, warmth spread through my entire body.
His grip was gentle but firm.
Possessive.
Secure.
As if silently promising—
"You’re safe with me."
Sebastian leaned closer.
His voice was barely above a whisper.
“Bella…”
I looked up at him.
“Yes?”
He swallowed slightly before speaking again.
“Hindi ko inakala na may araw na mangyayari ‘to.”
His thumb slowly brushed against my knuckles.
“I built companies. Empires. Entire industries.”
His voice softened.
“But nothing in my life…”
His gaze locked deeply with mine.
“…ever felt this important.”
My heart clenched.
Then I gently wiped the tear from his cheek.
“Sebastian Montemayor,” I whispered softly, teasing him a little.
“The most powerful man in the world…”
I tilted my head slightly.
“Umiiyak?”
A small laugh escaped him.
Low. Warm.
“Only for you.”
And suddenly…
All the fear.
All the doubts.
All the years of surviving alone…
They disappeared.
Because standing here, under the fading golden sky, with the ocean waves singing softly behind us—
I finally felt something I had never felt before.
Home.
The officiant cleared his throat gently.
“Shall we begin?”
Sebastian squeezed my hand and nodded.
The officiant smiled gently at us.
“Today,” he began, “we witness not just the union of two people, but the meeting of two lives that somehow found each other in the most unexpected way.”
A few guests nodded softly.
“Before we proceed with the formal vows, the couple has chosen to speak their own promises.”
He turned to Sebastian.
“Mr. Montemayor, you may begin.”
A soft murmur passed through the crowd.
Because the truth was—
People rarely heard Sebastian Montemayor speak about personal things.
He usually spoke about markets, innovation, global strategy.
Not love.
Sebastian inhaled slowly.
Then he turned fully toward me.
His eyes softened.
“Hi, Bella.”
A few guests chuckled already.
Trust Sebastian to start wedding vows like we were just casually talking in a coffee shop.
He rubbed the back of his neck slightly.
“Okay… I had a prepared speech.”
He reached into his tux pocket.
Then paused.
“Actually… never mind.”
More laughter rippled through the guests.
Even Daddy Alejandro chuckled quietly.
Sebastian looked at me again.
“Because the truth is… wala sa speech ang gusto kong sabihin.”
He lifted our joined hands slightly.
“When I met you three years ago…”
He smiled faintly.
“You were working behind a coffee counter… and you looked extremely annoyed that day.”
Claudine suddenly shouted from the seats.
“ANNOUNCED?? Annoyed talaga siya!”
The guests burst into laughter.
I covered my face slightly.
“Oh my God, Claudine.”
Sebastian laughed softly too.
“Yes. Annoyed.”
Then his gaze softened again.
“But still the most beautiful woman I had ever seen.”
The laughter faded.
“I remember thinking…”
He tilted his head slightly.
“Why does she look like someone who has carried the world alone for too long?”
My chest tightened.
The wind moved softly through the flowers around us.
Sebastian continued.
“You didn’t know who I was.”
He smiled a little.
“And that was the first time in years someone looked at me like I was just… a man buying coffee.”
A quiet murmur passed through the guests.
“I’ve built companies. Technologies. Entire industries.”
His voice grew steadier.
“But Bella…”
His thumb brushed gently over my hand.
“You built yourself.”
The silence grew deeper.
“You survived life without parents. Without a family. Without anyone protecting you.”
His jaw tightened slightly.
“And yet you still chose to be kind.”
My eyes started to blur.
“You still chose to believe in people.”
His voice softened again.
“And somehow…”
He took a breath.
“You believed in me.”
I felt the first tear slip down my cheek.
Sebastian smiled faintly.
“So here are my vows.”
He squeezed my hand.
“I promise to never make you feel alone again.”
A few guests wiped their eyes already.
“I promise that every birthday you missed celebrating… every Christmas you spent alone…”
His voice lowered.
“…I will spend the rest of my life making up for them.”
Mommy Victoria was already crying.
“I promise that no matter how powerful I become… you will always be the center of my world.”
Then he leaned slightly closer.
“And Bella…”
A small playful smile appeared again.
“I promise to keep buying coffee from you for the rest of my life.”
The guests laughed again.
Even I laughed through my tears.
Then his voice softened for the final time.
“You were never meant to walk through life alone.”
His forehead lightly touched mine.
“From today until my last breath…”
“You walk beside me.”
The entire beach fell silent.
Then suddenly—
Claudine started loudly sobbing.
Which made half the guests laugh while wiping their tears.
The officiant smiled.
“Miss Montgomery… your vows.”
I inhaled slowly.
My hands trembled slightly as I looked at Sebastian.
God.
How did I get this lucky?
“Sebastian…”
My voice was quiet at first.
“When I was growing up… I didn’t really believe in weddings.”
A few guests shifted slightly.
“Because weddings are about families.”
I swallowed.
“And I didn’t have one.”
The ocean waves rolled softly behind us.
“So I focused on studying.”
I smiled faintly.
“Numbers were easier than people.”
A few guests chuckled softly.
“But then…”
I looked up at him.
“You walked into that coffee shop.”
Sebastian’s lips curved slightly.
“You didn’t act like a billionaire.”
More quiet laughter.
“You acted like someone who didn’t know how to order coffee properly.”
The guests laughed loudly now.
Sebastian groaned softly.
“That was one time.”
I grinned.
“You asked for a caramel macchiato without caramel.”
The laughter doubled.
Even Daddy Alejandro was wiping tears from laughing.
Sebastian sighed dramatically.
“I still don’t understand coffee.”
Then my smile slowly faded into something softer.
“But what I remember most…”
I squeezed his hand.
“…is how you looked at me.”
The laughter faded again.
“You looked at me like I mattered.”
My voice trembled slightly.
“Like my life mattered.”
The ocean wind brushed against my veil.
“I spent twenty-three years believing I was alone in this world.”
Then I stepped closer to him.
“But you…”
My voice softened.
“You changed that.”
My eyes filled with tears again.
“So here are my vows.”
I inhaled deeply.
“I promise to stand beside you… not behind you.”
His gaze deepened.
“I promise to challenge you when you’re wrong.”
Some guests laughed softly.
“And remind you that even billionaires still need sleep.”
Sebastian smirked slightly.
“I promise to build a life with you that is not defined by money… or power…”
I placed my other hand over his.
“But by love.”
The wind lifted gently around us.
“And most of all…”
My voice nearly broke.
“I promise that if the world ever becomes too heavy for you…”
I looked straight into his eyes.
“…you can rest with me.”
A tear slid down Sebastian’s face again.
“I walked alone for most of my life.”
My voice softened.
“But if I have to walk the rest of it with someone…”
I smiled gently.
“I’m glad it’s you.”
Silence.
Complete silence.
Then somewhere behind the guests—
Claudine wailed again.
Which made everyone laugh and cry at the same time.
Even the officiant wiped his eyes.
“Well,” he said softly.
“That might be the most honest set of vows I’ve ever heard.”
Sebastian squeezed my hand again.
And for the first time in my life…
I truly believed.
This love—
Was real.
