Capitulo 21

Jonah's P.O.V:

2014..

Kakalabas ko lang ng Heathrow airport at halos lumipad na ako papunta sa bahay namin sa Manchester. My stepmom called the other night saying there's an emergency here in UK to the point that she can't even tell me over the phone what's the situation. Hindi na nga ako nakapag empake ng maayos dahil nakapag book na raw siya ng flight para sa'kin which is 3 in the morning.

"Damn it!"

Mukhang uulan pa at rush hour ngayon kaya naman kahit mahal ang pamasahe sa cab ay pinatulan ko na makauwi lang. It'll take at least 3-4 hours bago ako makauwi sa'min kaya naman naisipan ko munang matulog habang nasa byahe. Siguro dahil na rin sa puyat at jet lag hindi ko na namalayan ang oras at naramdaman ko nalang ginigising na ako ng driver dahil nasa tapat na ako ng bahay namin.

"That'll be £280."

"Here you go. Keep the change."

Pagkaabot ko ng bayad ay pumasok kaagad ako sa gate namin. I don't know but I have a feeling that something's not right. Pag kapasok ko dun ako nagsisi kung bakit ako pumunta ng UK.

8 months after Jonah's arrival in UK..

"Get out of here! Two months are already enough but you still cannot pay your rent? What do you think of this place? A charity?"

"Sir.. Please.. I'm begging you. Give me one more chance. I promise I'll pay you."

"Bloody promises! Don't you ever comeback here bastard!"

It's freezing cold here outside because it's winter. Napalayas pa ako sa maliit na kwartong inuupahan ko dahil hindi ako nakapag bayad ng renta for three months. Dalawa na nga ang trabaho ko pero hindi pa rin sapat ang sweldo ko to pay my bills. Napaka mahal ng cost of living dito sa UK. Siguro kung nasa Pilipinas ako mas okay pa ang buhay ko pero pano ako makakauwi? Wala akong pera.

"I'm so f****d up!"

Nang makita ko ang gamit ko na kalat sa kalsada dun ako biglang nagising sa panlulumo at hinanap kaagad ang source of strength ko. Nakahinga naman ako kaagad ng makita ko ito kaya naman pagkatapos kong makuha ay inayos ko na rin ang iba pang mga gamit ko at pumunta sa pinaka malapit na shelter for homeless.

2015..

I was in the library fixing books when one of my classmate in literature approached me.

"Hey Jonah."

"Hello Miss Donovan."

Trinity Donovan. One of the popular girls in our university. Not only that, ang lolo niya ay isang Baron at ang papa niya naman ay kasali sa board of directors ng university.

"Stop the formalities. Just call me Trinity."

"Hmm.. If that's what you want."

"Great! I'd like to be friends with you Jonah. You seem to be a nice guy. You are also smart and hard working."

"Thanks but I don't think we can be friends."

"Why not?"

"Seriously? Can't you see the difference between us?"

"Not at all."

Umiling nalamang ako at nag patuloy sa trabaho. From that day, hindi niya ako tinantanan hanggat hindi niya ako nagiging kaibigan. It begins to annoy me to be honest but I can't be rude to her, baka mawala na parang bula ang scholarship na pinag hirapan ko.

2016..

"You f*****g cheater!"

She starts throwing plates, bowls, cups at me. Kakapasok ko palang sa pinto pero ganito na naman ang naabutan ko. As usual, I cover my head and face to make sure it won't hit anything as I slowly approach her.

"Trinity stop it!"

"No!"

Nang makalapit na ako sakaniya ay kaagad ko siyang yinakap para mag tigil siya sa pambabato. Ako lang ang may kayang makapigil sakaniya kaya naman dinala ko kaagad siya sa kwarto namin.

"You cheater! I'm going to kill you and your b***h!"

"Stop it Trinity!"

Pinagsusuntok niya ako sa dibdib pero nanatili akong nakayakap sakaniya. Hanggang sa unti-unti nag tigil siya at tiningnan ako. I know this kind of look.

"I want you now Jonah. Nobody owns you but me."

In the middle of year 2016..

I'm about to close the lift when someone's arm stopped it. A man in suit entered holding his briefcase. Wala naman talaga akong balak pansinin siya pero tiningnan niya ako mula ulo hanggang paa.

"Do you have a problem with me mate?"

"No not at all. Are you a Filipino?"

"Yes. Do you have a problem?"

"Chill mate. Haha! I'm a Filipino too. Well, just half pero nakakaintindi ako ng Filipino but not that good when it comes to speaking the language."

"I see."

"What's your name?"

"Jonah. Jonah Clemente."

"Really?"

Parang hindi pa siya makapaniwala na 'yun ang pangalan ko. This guy's weird.

"And you are?"

"I'm Gloryvale. Are you new in here?"

"Yes."

"Fresh graduate?"

"No."

"I can tell."

Nag bukas na ang elevator at una siyang lumabas. Pareho pala kaming floor. Diretso lang siya sa pag lalakad habang panay ang pag bati sakaniya ng mga empleyado rito. Nakita ko siyang lumiko sa kaliwa at ako naman pumunta sa front desk ng floor na ito para mag tanong kung san ang office ng presidente ng kumpanya.

"Hey Jonah."

Tiningnan ko siya ng tawagin ako. Makatawag sa'kin akala mo ka-close. Naiirita pa naman ako sa feeling close

"Yes Gloryvale?"

"Why are you just standing there? Follow me. I'll show you your office."

Tiningnan ko naman ang front desk at tanging tango lang ang binigay niya sa'kin kaya naman sumunod ako kay Gloryvale. Pero pagkarating ko sa tapat ng pinto ng opisina ng presidente halos mapamura ako.

"I'm sorry Sir. I didn't know."

"Call me Sir one more time and you might lose your job Jonah."

"Chill Gloryvale."

Nagkatawanan kami at dun nag simula ang pagiging assistant ko kay Glorvale.

2017..

"I'm sorry Mr. Clemente but the baby's gone."

"No.. That's not true."

Nilunod na ako ng galit at lungkot kaya hindi ko naiwasang hindi mag wala sa ospital. Wala na.. Wala na ang anak ko and it's Trinity's fault!

"You bastard!"

Agad akong pinigilan ng mga bodyguards ng father-in-law ko at isang malakas na sampal ang nakuha ko sakaniya.

"If you aren't cheating on my daughter my grandchild could still be alive. You're going to pay for this!"

Sinenyasan niya ang mga tauhan niya na ilabas ako. Just when I thought I will be thrown only outside the hospital but one of the guys just kick me straight to my face. Pinabugbog ako ng tatay ng asawa ko. I'm so exhausted to move.. I feel like I have several bones broken that's why I just let them hit me until I lost consciousness.

2018..

Gloryvale and I are in a pub right now. We decided to celebrate the new year here.

"Cheers to your new beginning Jonah!"

"Cheers."

It's been 5 months since the last time I saw Trinity. When Gloryvale found out what happened to me, he rescued me. I stayed almost a month in the hospital for my recovery and before I got discharge, Gloryvale told me he filed a restraining order against the Donovans.

"Do you want me to file a case also for the injuries?"

"Nah. As long as they can't come near me I'm fine."

"How about divorce?"

Yes, I did file divorce but it's been five months now and she still won't comply.

"You sure you wanna stay here in the pub Gloryvale?"

"Yeah. Why not?"

"You're not in good terms again with Kendra are you?"

Bumuntong hininga lang si Gloryvale at uminom ulit. Sinasabi ko na.

"Let's not talk about her Jonah. Anyway, what are you plans now?"

"I don't know to be honest. But for sure, I'll keep myself busy with work."

"I see. I understand."

"Oh yeah, I will still continue my plan on going to back to the Philippines."

"What's in the Philippines that you're willing to leave your career here in the UK?"

"My girlfriend."

"Your what?"

"My girlfriend. Before I left the Philippines I am in a relationship. But s**t happened so I have to work hard. For her and for our future."

"And that's why Trinity keeps on accusing you are cheating on her?"

"The Creator know I have never cheated on Trinity. She just can't accept the fact I don't love her. She can own my body but not my heart."

"Damn! You're wife is really a psycho."

"Sinabi mo pa. Anyway, once na makapabalik na ako ng Pilipinas I'll put my own company there."

"What type of company?"

"Pharmaceutical. I'd like to practice my degree at the same time offer a cheaper price yet with quality medicine and vaccines to the public. "

"Wow! That's a nice idea."

We remained silent and continue drinking until he speaks again.

"Can I invest as early as now? Let's team up Jonah especially my company is also dealing with medical supplies. Great combination isn't it?"

With Gloryvale's help and influence I know the company will be a success in no time.

"Yes it is."

"Great! Let's start planning tomorrow and I'll gather more investors for your company."
